We begin this morning with the death of a civil rights icon. 17term georgia congressman john lewis has died at the age of 80. He will be remembered as the conscience of congress, the man who got into good trouble. Overnight tributes pouring in from across the country for congressman lewis. He passed away at his home in atlanta after a pancreatic canc. Here is Jessica Aguirre. We are marching today to dramatize to the nation, to dramatize to the world. Reporter from selma to washington, john lewis dedicated his life to the fight for civil rights. We made a lot of progress, but were not there yet. Reporter the son of sharecroppers, he believed nonviolent action could ignite social change. We can change america, and in changing america we can change the world. Reporter he became one of the original freedom riders, challenging laws in the south prohibiting black and white riders from sitting together on interstate buses. In 1963 lewis helped to organize the march on washington. Later, lewis worked to organize the marches from selma to montgomerie which included the confrontation on the Edmund Pettus bridge where marchers were met by Alabama State troopers. Lewis later took his fight for social justice to congress, one paper calling him the only former civil rights leader to extend the fight for civil rights to the halls of the capital. The time for silence and patience is long gone. We are calling on the leadership in the house to bring common sense gun control legislation to the house floor. Give us a vote reporter lewis didnt back down from a fight. In his later years, lewis spent much of his time educating and inspiring the next generation. And i said to all of the young people, you must get out there and push and pull and make america what america should be for all of us from his activism in the Civil Rights Movement reporter in 2011 president obama awarded john lewis the president ial medal of freedom, the nations highest civilian honor. Generations from now when parents teach their children what is meant by courage, the story of john lewis will come to mind. Reporter that courage tested again when lewis learned he had stage four pancreatic cancer. John lewis, who believed equality could not wait. That was Jessica Aguirre for us. President barack obama releasing a statement that reads in part, not many of us get to live to see our own legacy play out in such a meaningful, remarkable way. John lewis did. And thanks to him, we now have our marching orders to keep believing in the possibility of remaking this country we love until it lives up to its full promise. Still no statement from president trump. East bay congresswoman barbara lee calling lewis a dear friend, colleague and personal hero. She also released a statement saying, quote, a leader, a father, an activist, the conscience of the congress. John lewis legacy will be remembered as a man who never backed down, stood up for what was rice, and facilitated change by making good trouble. His presence in the halls of congress and in our fight for justice will be deeply missed. And california senator Kamala Harris tweeting last night this photo of the two of them together. John lewis was an icon who fought with every ounce of his being to advance the cause of civil rights for all americans. Im devastated for h whose lives he touched. You are seeing some thunderstorms flaring for the afternoon, so we could see localized flash flooding issues, some hail and also some gusty winds, too. Some of the stronger storms expect to fire up mid afternoon around the sierra. Now, by monday, look how much those temperatures start to drop. Low to mid 80s inland as the sea breeze starts to turn stronger. Thats going to allow our inland temperatures to start to drop off. For the coast, obviously that means even cooler temperatures with some low clouds and fog. So High Pressure at its strongest to start the weekend, then we see the more mild temperatures coming in with a trough of low pressure across the west coast leading to the cooling we see midway through the sevenday forecast.
