Dr. Deborah birx says the Coronavirus Task force is tracking rising cases in 12 cities and one of them is san jose. Audio of the meeting was obtained by the center for public integrity. County Health Leaders are tonight responding saying even though theres an increase in cases, it is less than most metropolitan cities. In a statement, the county says, quote, we are concerned about the increase in cases nationally and believe that this highlights the need for a coordinated National Approach to address this pandemic, something the president has failed to put into effect. We call upon the Trump Administration to finally implement the National Strategy our nation needs to contain covid19. Tonight, there are more than 1,000 new cases across the bay area. Alameda county added 226. Contra costa county, 223. And santa clara county, 216. There is some good news, though, in the fight against the virus. Well, testing continues to be an issue with the wait to get a test exhausting and the wait to get results agonizing. But Stanford Medicine is working to speed up that turnaround time. Stanford is working to turn results around faster with a technique called pooled testing. You can pull any eight you want, process them together. Then the liquid from that just gets put into a machine, and it gets run. Reporter stanford Infectious Disease dr. Yvonne maldonado says pooled testing will save on time and on hard to get supplies. If is a result is positive, technicians would go back and test each sample and identify which is positive. If the result is negative, they move on to the next eight. This was the line yesterday outside Marina Village in alameda. Today the site had to close not because it ran out of tests but because of Liability Insurance issue. The testing site promises results in 15 minutes. People told us they decided to wait in line as long as it took because their jobs were requiring them to get tested. I would like to have a paycheck again. I came today at 6 00 because i was like, im going to beat that crowd. Then they shut down. Then i was like, i have Nothing Better to do, so i stuck it out. Reporter alameda city manager says the city cant resolve the insurance issue, it will look for another place to host that testing site. The governor has added Santa Cruz County to the watch list. That means more closures likely for businesses, and even possibly the beaches. Santa cruz county joins eight bay area counties already on the list. Santa cruz has seen a significant surge in cases over the past two weeks. If the county is on the watch list for three days, gyms, personal care salons, places of worship could be forced to close. That over twothirds of our cases have been in the last two weeks. This is a dramatic change for the county of santa cruz. On june 24th, you can see the Waste Management truck pull up, he pulls a full garbage bag from the cab and walks to the dumpster. Its his doing. The plan would help support dozens of students at dozens of locations across the city, including at rec centers. Strict Public Health guidelines will be in place. The priority is to serve students who may be homeless, in foster care, or in public housing. We wanted to make sure that those families and those children have access to adult supports to help them so that they dont continue to both academically decline and slide back, but also socioemotionally as well. The hubs are expected to serve up to 6,000 kids with full programs starting in september. There will be meals, enrichment activities, as well as social and emotional support services. Okay.
