Well, weve had a lot of smoke around the bay area and it looks like that will continue today. The good news our temperatures are coming down so it will be slightly cooler today. Lets head to san jose as we look at our temperature trend for this morning with some low 60s to start and then as we go into late morning well see mid70s and only 80 degrees at noon. Now we will be also tracking those winds as the red flag warning continues until 8 00 this morning. Well talk more about that as well as the rest of the forecast coming up in a few minimum. Mike, how is it looking for the commute this morning . Kari, it looks kind of yellow here on the map. We take a look at the golden gate bridge, that fog registering an advisory from chp, and you see why. The map will show you traffic heading over into the north bay. Very smooth, though, out of San Francisco into the fog and north bay where there are more patches. We have construction and slowing through oakland. 880, 29 to 23rd. That may stick around until closer to 6 00. Meanwhile, the rest of the bay does move smoothly. I have another note for the alat this maltamont coming up. A wildfire for the of sacramento gets closer to those homes. Now this is new video just in to our newsroom of the bear fire. Very dangerous with those flames on both sides of the highway. That fire is burning northeast of lake oroville, two hours from the bay area, part of the north burning in butte, yuba counties. At least 20,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders. That fire is about 58,000 acres in size and is 37 contained. O bring that to you throughout the morning. Well, new video shows heavy amounts of ash falling right now in oroville. It was posted overnight by a local emt on twitter. It nearly looks like a snowstorm and really puts in perspective the depth of the bear fire. The strong overnight winds are certainly fueling this fire. We want to bring in meteorologist kari hall for the latest. What are we talking about here . We had a lot of high winds for the upper elevations but as far as the valleys, it wasnt as windy. When we take a look at where we are now, our winds are coming in from the north and northeast, so thats also going to bring some of that smoke from the new fires that are burning into the bay area. So we are seeing the winds calming down. A fairly light wind. The red flag warning does continue until 8 00 this morning for all of our bay area hills, in the east bay as well as the north bay, as we could continue to see some of the gusts as well as that low humidity. Ill be tracking that all throughout the morning, marcus. Kari, thank you. In Mendocino County the oak fire has burned nearly 900 acres. Its 10 contained and is threatening more than 3,000 homes and buildings. The fire started on labor day quickly growing due to wind and dry conditions. Here in the bay area crews continue to make progress on the fire lines. The lnu complex fire in the north bay now 91 contained. The scu complex fire 95 contained. Containment on the czu complex along the coast stands at 82 . The woodward fire burning at point reyes is 95 contained. Well, the power may start to begin going back on as early as today for more than 172,000 pg e customers statewide who lost their service because of a Public Safety power shutoff on psps, thats what they call psps. About 22,000 north bay customers are in the dark, but many have taken matter into their hands. They purchased generators. Things like generators cant power the internet which affects phone calls and delivery apps as well, something weve all gotten used to using. Pg e says some customers may have power back by tonight barring any complications there. The bay area continues a new record setting trend for unhealthy air. Here is a live look outside of palo alto in oakland. No matter where you are, you most likely see smoke and ash from wildfires visible throughout cities in the region. Bay area air Quality Management says it is expecting unhelpy air quality, unfortunately, to continue. It has extended a spare the air alert through today. This is a record 23rd day in a row. People cleaning ash off their cars in San Francisco say its a reminder of the terrible fires and the impact on so many lives. Its just sad. You see the ash and you think about the slight discomfort thing you have and you think about everybody else is going through really bad stuff. The ash didnt keep people inside last night. Now nail salons, body waxing salons can now reopen. So can tattoo parlors. Gyms can reopen at 10 capacity as well as museums, zoos and aquariums at 25 capacity, and that is all indoors. Now blossom nail spa already has Safety Measures in place. They sanitize their partition booths after every customer and at the end of each day. The county not allowing restaurants to resume any indoor dining. And Santa Cruz County also moved into the red tier. Nail salons, gyms, places of worship can all operate indoors. This is with modifications, of course. The county emphasized its preparing for other covid surge since a lot of people who evacuated during the czu complex fire were forced into closed quarters with others. And you know, marcus, its back to the classroom for some students along the peninsula today after being closed for nearly six months. Some palo alto students are starting inperson classes. Palo alto weekly reports small groups of struggling students and special education students are coming back to help families who cant distance learn. The superintendent says each middle and High School Campus will hold one to two groups of students and more than two teachers will be allowed to teach those students. As we take a look outside in San Francisco a little bit of fog to start out this morning, and thats going to help us cool off just a bit especially along the coastal areas and lets go throughout the day looking hour by hour at our temperatures where we are going to see about the noon hours. For the south bay were at 81 degrees. As we go into today well see those highs still reaching into the 90s but this is definitely better, highs over 100 degrees. Were up to about 90 degrees at 3 00 in antioch and 94 around concord and then going into this evening if youre planning to head out and will be doing outdoor activities, 70s and dropping back to the 60s overnight. We know that we have a lot of fires burning and theyre causing these, what we call, cumulus clouds that are basically billows of smoke coming up into the atmosphere and that smoke is traveling well above the surface. A little bit higher in the atmosphere. The smoke particles across the country leaving the sky darker. Weve been seeing a lot of that and the smoke can stay closer to the surface or just above the surface but weve also been watching our fire conditions here as we look at our wind speeds in the forecast for the morning. The red flag warning continues until 8 00. After that looks like our winds start to calm down just a bit, but it will be quite breezy in some spots. A southerly wind will bring in some slightly cooler temperatures and then it turns more westerly as we head into the end of the week which brings back our natural air conditioning and will also hopefully improve air quality. Were looking at temperatures in San Francisco mostly in the 60s after today but it will still be a little bit warm in the city for today as well as tomorrow.
