You can barely see anything. This is looking over the santa cruz mountains. You dont have very far visibility. As we look at these numbers, from the past few days the smoke has been a little bit higher in the atmosphere. But now its being pushed down and its not moving. Weve had such unhealthy air quality that even Healthy People may start to experience some symptoms from this feeling nauseous or having a headache or even some breathing problems. Look at these very unhealthy numbers spreading across the bay area as we see a lot more of the fog moving in as well and not much of a wind. So this is not mixing out. And as we go into today, we do expect more of this unhealthy air quality even as our winds shift from the south we do have fires to the south. So we could just bring in another round of some smoke as we go into the afternoon. Im watching this and also talking about what im expecting for the weekend. Thats coming up in the micro climate forecast. The skies may not be as ominous orange as they were just a few days ago like kari was talking about. Reporter well, hi there, marcus. Were here at the downtown Farmers Market at san pedro square. There are some people who are milling out about here. But its definitely under those dark gray skies that we should probably get used to for the next couple of days. For a lot of downtown restaurants, serving people outside has been a lifeline during the pandemic. But today air quality at ground level is the worst weve seen during what is a nearly monthlong run of spare the air days. For folks with Furry Friends though, staying in is not an option so getting in early is a must. I can see it. I dont really smell the smoke. A little bit or maybe im just getting used to it. But i definitely see the difference. But i know its nowhere close to where it needs to be. Reporter he said he was going to walk his dog and then hurry on home and stay inside for the rest of the day. We also checked out Campbell Park and found people trying to get in a sweat session before the air quality worsens as the day goes october but the Health Advice is to avoid rigorous activity when the air quality is this poor. Todays recordbreaking 25th straight spare the air day may not be the last one for us. The air is unhealthy for all groups, not just for people with health challenges. If you cant limit your outdoor activity, wear that you dont breathe particles that are small. They dont always properly fit and it can make it hard for them to breathe. Kari, you know we all talked about what the skies were looking like because of the effects from the fire. But now were actually feeling it down on the ground level. Yeah. We have so much smoke over the bay area. And of course its not surprising when you consider were breaking records with the amount of acreage of wildfires that we are seeing burning across the region. This is a loop of the smoke in the levels of the atmosphere upper levels of the atmosphere of the past 24 hours. This weekend there will be no driving to escape this smoke. Its pretty much everywhere covering the state. Then we look at how it gets transported across the country. We can see it moving through the midwest and even up through maine. But it doesnt stop there. If youre following me on social media, we had a tweet from europe saying the california smoke from those wildfires has arrived in europe. And you can even see how that is being shown here on these maps. And so its just really unbelievable to see all of this going on. And so were trying to document it all and sharing our pictures of whats going on. Make sure youre following me. Im karihall weather. I tweeted the forecast for the air quality for the weekend. We know its so bad right now and its gotten even worse, especially as we see it really pushing dhe ground. And its keepingy in the mid60s. And if you think of in history when you have volcano eruptions and things like that, they have really cold weather, those temperatures struggle to warm up. And this is basically acting as the same way with the smoke blanketing the bay area. Its keeping our temperatures from rising more than just a few degrees. So were staying in the 60s today for our high temperatures. And we are looking at some changes as we go through the forecast. Lets talk about what we need to get this air out of here. We are seeing High Pressure pushing down the smoke. There will be an approaching storm system to the Pacific Northwest in the next couple days. And its going to bring us a westerly wind and will hopefully bring in some fresher breezes. But it takes a while before it gets here. Were even looking at longrange forecasts because we want to have an idea of what could be coming our way as we head into the winter. We are ang the equatorial pacific. Those sea surfacea nina there. And we know that with la nina conditions it can kind of drive the storm track a little bit farther to the north of us. So that can mean drier than normal conditi
