The stanford Football Team got the blessing of the School District earlier this week. To go down the road a couple miles out of santa clara. And into the more cooperative environment to start practice. Stanford crews arrived early to convert the football field into the practice site. The pac12 ready for a seven game season that kicks off november 7. When stanford traveled to wood side to practice. Both counties are in the states red tier for covid19. It raised some eyebrows. I think there should be continuity among the counties. Know something we dont. The county manager says every county has unique circumstances. But comfortable with the precautions. Theres many things in place. You have the pac12 standards in place. The state standards that are specifically address college athletics. The county Public Health department issued a general statement. Focusing on red tier status. In its own statement stanford emphasized this is an interim plan. Reflecting optimism that on campus practice could commence soon. The pac12 issued a bottom line. That if 10 of the team tests positive within a two week span. The doors open for Public Health departments to end the season. Theres financial aspects to this. Im trying to give them benefit of the doubt. Its a health and safety perspective. The principal says theres no set schedule for how long the team will get to practice here. That will be determined later. Thank you. The next president ial debate is off. The town hall style was set for thursday in miami. Yesterday the commission on president ial debates announced it would be virtual because of the covid19 diagnosis. President trump said he wont participate in a virtual debate. So its called off. Right in and out debate slated for october 22 in mash ville is a go. That will be a traditional standard debate. You may have yours here in california. Mail in ballots went out this week. Theres already confusion. Election officials are clearing up whats behind that. Because of the pandemic Governor Newsom made the decision to mail a ballot to every registered voter in california. Thats about 21 Million People. And as the ballots arrive in the mail this week, there are hiccups that were hearing about. Jeff riff tell us he got two in the mail. Each with a different bar code and version of his name. One with his middle name, one without. Leading to concerns someone could vote twice. Another issue someone receiving a ballot belonging to someone else. Someone who moved. These issues are why he doesnt think every registered vote r should automattly get a ballot in the mail. The system we have now where you can ask nor a mail in ballot it makes sense. You ask and they send it. To just send tout ballots to everyone. Especially in the middle of the pandemic. Where people moved and lost houses. And are in different locations. And maybe changing your address isnt a priority. We made multiple attempts to contact the register of voters about the issues. Nobody got back to us. The secretary of state tells us the voter likely reregistered with a different variation of the name. And recommend anyone with the issue call your county registrar. And ask them to merge the records. If you get someone elses ballot. You should quote mark the ballot envelope as return to sender. Voter no longer lives there and put it back in the mail to the election office. This will notify the county election official to deactivate the previous registration. Multiple rej stars in other counties say there are fail saves in place to prevent debate counting. The fact check unit as well as the fbi said in reality some double votes will sneak through. It happens with in person voting. The percentage of improper votes is a tiny fraction and theres no evidence they never found any evidence of widespread voter fraud. The vacant oakland house that made headlines last year is in the hands of the Oakland Community land trust. This was the home that four homeless moms moved into without approval. It will serve as transitional housing for other homeless moms. The group celebrated the victory. At the house in west oakland. The land trust purchased the home in may for 600,000. You can imagine the house was in poor condition. Well be starting the rehab. And looking forward to putting it back into productive use for the moms. This is officially moms house. Plenty of cheers. The house will give homeless moms a place to stay while they get credit in order and find permanent housing. It is a dream come true for a San Francisco woman. Shes hoping it leads the way for others. She has opened the first latino owned cannabis dispensary in the city. She grew up in the projects and over come gang violence, Domestic Abuse and addiction. She wants others to know that hard work really can pay off. I will be able to fund and help the communities like the community that i grew up and i still live. It was frustrating for everyone. Theres still no date for when the performances will come back. The artists are back at work building sets for another day. The crew is creating a set for the opera. We were supposed to open last week. It was a somber opening for us. No one knows when the curtain will go up again. Theres no cutting corners. We take pride in what we do. In a sense i have a little built of survivors guilt. Nobody gets to sing. But i get to make sets. Crews are installing the set on the War Memorial Building stage. Using the down time to change out the theaters 88 yearold seats. We have not had the luxury of time it required to replace the seats. Until now. Now we have nothing but time. Time will tell when the seats will be filled and the set alive with performers. Even if we cant make use of it the opera house. There might be an out door venue. The opera might be coming to them.
