That is part of the reason why Health Officials are now ramping up these enforcements no businesses because they want to keep people safe and doing this because of the Holiday Shopping season. Yesterday alone, Santa Clara County reported 512 new cases and setting a new record. 213 hospitalizations were also reported yesterday, including 45 new ones. Another new record. County believes those numbers will be even higher tomorrow. Those staggering numbers are part of the reason why enforcement efforts are being enhanced and the county Fire Department will now assist with compliance officers who have already been tasked with making sure businesses follow capacity restrictions and require face coverings and apply social distance guidelines. We are extremely concerned about what this means for our hospitals ability to care for, not only people with covid19, but for other people who need access to care in our hospitals. Reporter this current surge far surpasses what shanta clara saw in july where it was 385 covid cases reported in a single day. Santa clara says people need to stay at home as much as possible this thanksgiving. This retail enforcement will last through at least sunday we are being told, but it has the potential to last throughout the entire Holiday Shopping season depending how this weekend goes. I know they reached capacity early before 9 00 a. M. This morning . That site director i spoke with said there have been folks in line the last couple of days here as early as 6 00 a. M. Doors opened at 9 00 and folks waiting here hours before that and as a couple of minutes after 11 00, there is still a good number of folks in the parking lot. We see folks looking at videos on their phone and i saw one guy appearing to be doing homework with textbooks out. Folks are waiting to get the tests. They only have 200 nasal swab tests per day. The folks here telling me if you were trying to get tested for tomorrow you have missed that window because it is a 72hour turnaround time. Nonetheless first come, first serve here at this alameda fairgrounds. 200 people a day can be tested. They have been operating monday through friday but this week, they are closed tomorrow and friday. That site director telling me in addition to precaution or risk of exposure testing, they have also been doing a lot of preoperative testing. If youre getting a surgery youre able to come here before you undergo that surgery. A lot of this increase that site director is telling me is because many of the counties are on the verge of entering that purple tier and with this comes the fear of exposure. Combine that with the holidays, we will get a lot of folks at one testing facility. Another live look. When we arrived, the cars were at the very back of this lot by that green fence. If you can see that in the distance. They have now come up to this parking lot and are roping around to go through that final path to get those tests. If youre not in line now, youve missed it for this week. Because they are closed tomorrow and friday. For more counties, four are in the purple tier bringing the total to 45. Nothing really changed here in the bay area. San francisco, san mateo, marin are all still in the red tier. San Francisco Health leaders that move into the purple tier and may reach that case threshold by sunday. A side note for you into the most restrictive tier if they go into that area, that is going to make restaurants close earlier and its also going to make everyone follow the statewide curfew. The restaurants would have to shut their doors down for Outdoor Dining at 10 00 p. M. A look at sfo. If youre thinking about getting the covid test there before you head out of town for the holidays, think again because according to them, reservations are booked through december 1st. Walk up day of travel testing are not available the rest of the week. A side note. Sfo says 179 of its employees have tested positive since the start of the pandemic. We are winding it down now. I say emergency. The food bank had to set up this Distribution Site in late march and in other locations because so many people needed help as a result of the pandemic. This is many people who lost their jobs because of the shelterinplace order. Thousand people were expected here today. Those are actually fairly normal numbers for this time of the year and for what they have been doing. The food bank has been running emergency distributions every monday, wednesday, and friday. Today is the day before thanksgiving. People driving through in their cars this morning are receiving a special meal that includes pasta, canned goods, potatoes, yams, carrots and a chicken. Community support has been generous according to the Alameda County food bank but they believe once they get through the holidays they need people to pick it up. Not much of a warmup there. At least sunshine makes it feel nicer but a headsup that there will be a High Surf Advisory in effect for this afternoon. We could have large breaking waves potentially up to 24 feet so its going to be very dangerous to be anywhere near the coast. We will see those waves coming up every 17 to 19 seconds and so some of those waves may be quite large. We will see the same thing again tomorrow. Just not as high but still 20 feet waves are significant there and very dangerous. Headsup about that. If youre going to be outside for thanksgiving dinner in napa, expect the temperatures during the middle of the day, dinnertime around 3 00 or maybe 4 00, we will see temperatures at 64. Cooling off.
