They are comparing the covid crisis to a train about to derail. Among the new restrictions is a quarantine. Will it be enforced . We begin coverage with bay areas Marianne Favro at san joses bay area international. Reporter San Jose International must post the information and also give each arriving passenger a copy of the order. Letting them know that they are required to quarantine for 14 days. This is the last group of travelers arriving at sjc who will not be asked to quarantine. But at midnight that all changes. Thats when a new travel order goes into effect in Santa Clara County requiring people who travel more than 150 miles from the county to quarantine for 14 days. Travelers have mixed feelings about the restriction. For most people that doesnt really that wont really fly with their sort of lifestyle, right. Irk work from home. Some people might not be able to work from home. I dont know if theyll miss out on income or what, you know. I think its a good idea, right. The death numbers picking up. Reporter there are some exceptions, such as people who perform an essential government function. Its not clear if the county will be tracking whether people actually quarantine, but the county is notifying travelers of the policy. Were requiring transit facilities where people may be coming from, greater than 150 miles, for example, the airport or train stations to affirmatively provide the quarantine information. Reporter not only is the airport required to post this sign about the quarantine order, but it must give a copy of the directive to arriving passengers. With new covid cases increasing exponentially, and regular hospital beds in the county expected to fill up by december 3rd, the county is also cracking down on businesses, issuing at least 76 fines last week. No grace period for covid violations. Most of the violations were for failing to submit a revised covid19 business plan. We reached out to Santa Clara County Public Health department to find out the specifics on how theyre going to enforce this new quarantine order, but they did not provide any details. What we do know is that this new order applies not just to People Living in Santa Clara County, but anyone who visits here for more than 150 miles away. In san jose, Marianne Favro, nbc bay area news. Over the past week, tsa has processed more than 7 Million Airline passengers. Sounds like a lot and it is, but its still less than half of what we saw last year. Here at our bay area airports an average of about 18,000 passengers went through sfo per day over the past week. The airport says a 75 below average. San jose International Says it also saw far fewer travelers this holiday week than in a typical year. And with all that travel, Health Officials are warning of an even greater surge in the coming week, something that could overwhelm the states hospital system. Take a look at this. Yesterday the state reported a record 7,415 patients hospitalized with covid19. Just one month before that, that number was down 2,358 patients. The increase there is of more than 5,000 patients in just one month. Now lets narrow even further and take a look at hospitalizations. Hospitalizations within Santa Clara County, this is data from the first of the month. At least 272 patients are currently hospitalized. You can clearly see the number of hospitalizations rising steadily all month long. The San Francisco 49ers opening up after an emotional win and at times getting emotional over the uncertainty of what happens to the team next. The team wont be able to play or practice at levi stadium for at least the next three weeks. Nbc bay areas Anthony Flores joining us now with the teams reaction to these new restrictions. Anthony. Yeah, terry. Head coach Kyle Shanahan called it disappointing when he found out about the countys new regulation on the flight to los angeles. Now, he says the team and the franchise have been working hard to keep everybody safe and follow the rules. For us to be heading out here yesterday, the relationship we have with them for all the players and coaches and everyone on the plane to find that out while were getting on the plane and nobody tell us was extremely disappointing. I have a lot of guys here who, we can handle anything. We understand how big of a deal this virus is, and thats why were so committed and we feel thats why like weve done it as good as we can. Its been a struggle not having my little, my Little Family sorry if i get a little emotional, but, you know, its really tough and i miss them so much. And its a fight out here every day. Youre fighting for your life, and i just want people to understand that, you know. Its not just football players. Its the whole organization, its everybody. You can hear the emotion in both of their voices. The team is working on a new game plan. Now, they have not finalized where theyre going to stay, practice or play, but its clear that leaving their families behind will not be easy. Now, the 49ers next game is next monday night, but theyll have to find a place to practice by thursday. Reports from nbc sports bay area says theyll likely practice in arizona or even san diego and play their games in arizona. But, again, nothing has been finalized by the team. San francisco will now have to abide by the states curfew beginning tomorrow night at 10 00. It lasts until 5 00 in the morning. Also moving back to the restricted purple tier, that means Retail Stores and restaurants returning to tighter rules. They were hoping to avoid. Broadway grill in burlingame one of the businesses adjusting to the new restrictions. The option of indoor dining, forget about it, its gone. The restaurant hopes to get a parklet or tent soon. Even that comes with challenges. The Biggest Issue obviously is going to be wintertime. If its raining, you know, its probably going to be no business at all. And basically were hoping for some takeout. For retail shops, the indoor capacity is being further reduced just as Holiday Shopping season arrives. And then there was one. Marin is the only county in the bay area that has not moved back into the most restrictive purple tier. That means that it also does not have mandatory curfews in effect. It is hanging on in the red tier. Nbc bay areas tom jensen now from mill valley where there are worries about whats ahead. Reporter a busy sunday here in mill valley with diners and shoppers remaining out into the evening. With marin county still in the red tier, but will there be fall out after the holidays and an even bigger surge in covid19 cases . Thats a concern for some. Shoppers and diners enjoy live music in downtown mill valley. Like other marin county communities, theres no curfew in place, so no need to eat fast and rush home. A manager at deangelos restaurant is thankful people have worked to slow the spread of covid here. I think so far everybody has been, you know, very careful like when we have people Walking Around here, everybody is wearing their mask. Reporter he doesnt want any new restrictions to hurt plans to expand seating as deangelos tries to survive the pandemic financially. Diners receipts over the past few days are down about 75 compared to the 2019 thanksgiving weekend. Were trying to open other areas in the restaurant so we can have another section for sales. And were making things happen on the alley way, thats going to be our next step for moving forward. Reporter others worry marin countys red status is about to change. After the thanksgiving break, we still have no idea the cases of covid that will be coming back to the bay area. Reporter and because of that, Stephanie Shafer says the School District should not be moving forward with plans to reopen elementary schools, and Mill Valley Middle School where she has kids, monday morning. And we dont know for probably two or three weeks. Now is the worst time to start. I do understand the concern. Reporter another parent who is also a counselor said hes seen an increase in Mental Health issues in teens who need the social connections at school, so he supports the reopening. I just think as far as their social, emotional growth its really at some point we have to go. Reporter meanwhile, the high schools here plan to reopen in january. After we know if travel and get togethers caused another spike in covid19 cases. In mill valley, tom jensen, nbc bay area news. This week a south bay church will be back in court fighting to hold large indoor services. As we previously reported, the cavalry chapel in san jose has continuously defied the countys orders welcoming hundreds of people inside for services. Last month the Court Ruling Said the church must listen to the county and comply with its order. Another hearing is set for tuesday to determine if those restrictions will continue. The county has already issued hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fines against that church. Still ahead, it could be just a few weeks before a vaccine is available. This week a critical meeting to decide who gets that vaccine first with some of the countrys Top Health Leaders are suggesting tonight. And president elect joe biden naming more people for his administration. One difference hes made with his communications team, plus the injury he suffered today and what it means for the weeks ahead. Reporter with skyrocketing deaths, the National Guard troops deployed to Health Nursing homes at the center of the covid crisis. They may be at the forefront of the solution. Were likely, almost certainly going to be vaccinating a portion of the individuals in the First Priority before the end of december. Reporter a major question, who should be in that First Priority group. Cdc advisers are meeting tuesday to vote. Likely health care workers, but theres debate about residents of longterm care facilities. When we move a new drug into the general population and we look at how it acts in the real world, its so critical that we do so before we move into a frail population. So that is why even though longterm care residents are at greatest risk for covid, there is some consideration that perhaps the vaccine should be delayed for them. Reporter experts have a range of concerns including possible side effects of the vaccine, and that many nursing home residents cant travel to a hospital or outpatient clinic. Major pharmacy chains such as walgreens are prepared to bring the vaccines to Nursing Homes by setting up a Central Location in the facilities or by going room to room. According to an nbc news analysis, federal data this month, more than 1300 Nursing Homes across the u. S. Reported having three or more covid cases. Do you think residents of longterm care facilities should be in that First Priority group . Barring no other choice, yes, they should. You might have noticed that as the winds have backed off and High Pressure strengthens. Were getting kind of close these wintertime spare the air alerts air pollution levels due to wood smoke from lets say wood burning stoves and things like that as temperatures get cold. This is one of the more safe varieties of the Lunar Eclipse. Not the blood moon or darkening of the moon we experience with total elipse. What you get is the faint shadowing effect.
