Every politician we talked with today said she was a friend and a mentor, and they also said she was never afraid of telling them exactly what she thought of the job they were doing. For people who grew up in San Francisco and watched her progress through San Francisco politics and then international politics, they say her tenacity was an inspiration. Just hours after the world learned that Dianne Feinstein had died, San Francisco mayor called cameras and reporters to city hall to explain the very personal and lasting impression the senator made on her as she grew up in the city. When became the second woman to become mayor, she said Dianne Feinstein was a mentor and she says she will finally member the sometimes blunt uncles she would ought get about the way she was running the city. I really appreciate all that she has done, all the advice she has provided. Most of the time, it was always about the city, always about what i needed to do. President of the board of supervisors and former mayor willie brown agreed saying Dianne Feinstein was never shy about sharing her thoughts and opinions. She would call me up and tell me exactly what i was doing wrong. She was a force of nature. I start to think about the good times i had with her and the smiles that came trying to tell me what to do. As she was prone to do with some regularity. Dianne feinstein was first elected to the San Francisco board of supervisors in 1969 and became the first woman to serve as the board president. In november 1978, and a thinkable tragedy struck its emphasis go city hall forcing Dianne Feinstein into a national spotlight. Both mayor missoni and supervisor harvey milk have been shot and killed. She became the first woman to serve as mayor of San Francisco and ultimately led the city for 10 years. She then ran to be governor of california and loss and then quickly regrouped and ran for u. S. Word of Dianne Feinsteins passing brought a steady stream of people to the steps of her San Francisco home. Some of them leaving cards, other sharing stories. Several people also stopped by who actually live in the neighborhood. Visitors traveled from out of town to pay tribute remembering her as a leader who made a difference, a woman who paved the way for so many other women and a politician who showed courage and civility. She has been a role model for me and my daughters. I am deeply saddened to hear about her death. She has been example of civility, dignity, a champion of causes dear to my heart. Visitors talked about how the senators passing felt like the end of an era to them noting her ability to work across the aisle and with people of other parties. The cards left were condolences but also wards of thanks to a political giants. She was bicoastal for decades committing commuting back and forth from San Francisco to washington, d. C. Are these things that we want sold over the internet so no matter who could easily change a weapon bought legally into a weapon that would be totally illegal. In 2019, she introduced three pieces of gun safety legislation in the senate and updated assault weapons bans. The extreme Risk Protection order act to let states allow family members to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous relatives and a bill to raise the federal age to buying assault weapon or highcapacity magazine from 18 to 21. We want to keep pushing for more gun sense solutions, Common Sense Solutions that will save lives. Mr. And mrs. America, you have to stand up. You have to say enough is enough.
