Visit. Both the president and the first lady are waking up in the bay area this morning ahead. Details on the visit as we inch closer to the november election and tracking a weekend warm up. Meteorologist kari hall is timing out what you can expect as you make your plans. This is today in the bay good friday morning. We made it to so happy that we say that every friday im Ginger Conejero saab. Laura garcia is in our newsroom. We will see her in just a bit. And im scott mcgrew. Marcus is off this morning. First, lets kick things off with a look at what is bound to be a very warm forecast. Yeah, its already warm out there and we are going to heat up even more this afternoon as our temperatures are in the upper 50s. To start, were at 63 degrees in martinez, and then you can see the difference in temperatures from martinez at 63 to 48. In sonoma. The wind has calmed down in some spots and thats allowing those temperatures to drop. But as we get all of that sunshine today, its going to heat up and well hit a high of 91 in fairfield today in concord, 90 degrees. And San Francisco will be in the upper 70s upper 80s for the south bay. And as we take a look at our saturday forecast, expect it to be about the same with low 70s near the coast. While our inland areas will be near 90 degrees. So well talk about when we get a little bit more relief in our forecast. Mike, you heard about a couple of fires out there, lots of activity suddenly in the blotter for the south bay. Heard about a crash just off 680 capital expressway, little brush fire on the shoulder. And i think thats well handled. Now there is also a building fire, reported tully just off of eastridge way. So thats just off capital expressway as well. But were watching for that update, and i dont think there are any injuries. And were going to track that in the newsroom. But just know its there. 101 near shoreline. Theres a crash reported a little bit of slowing. Ill check that out. Chp should get on scene shortly and let us know. And an older crash over near the newark side of the dumbarton bridge, i believe everythings clear. Theres no slowing. Hasnt been a problem. The rest of the bay. Just friday. Its just waking up. Back to you. Thank you. Mike so that warehouse in fremont caught fire around 1215 last night on millmont drive. Crews still working on the scene, working to monitor hot spots, assessing the damage. In fact, we have a live look right now at the scene. The roads just reopening in the area. Crews say the building was a Storage Facility for food preparation. Fortunately nobody was hurt and theyre still trying to figure out what caused that fire. Meantime happening today. A lot on the line for state funded programs, some of which can make all the difference for those who need it. Governor newsom expected to unveil the budget and californias short cash. Well, today in the bays laura garcia is keeping a close eye on this. Shes still getting over a nasty bout of laryngitis, but we made it to friday. Laura. Shes in our newsroom. Laura, there are lots of concerns about just what programs may be cut right, exactly. We made it to friday. Were making it through now. The governors got to make it through this big proposal. We could see a so much slashing going on in this recent budget that is expected to be unveiled. As you mentioned, scott, this morning, this revised state Budget Proposal now, think back to february, when a Nonpartisan Group says the states shortfall could be up to 73 billion in 2022, california had nearly 800 surplus, but now it is such a different financial picture. Thus the slashing expected according to the la times. Heres what could lose money a 40 million funding reduction was proposed, impacting a program that helps prisoners seeking to shorten their sentences through public defenders. Now, if approved, money could come out of a program for those who cant afford private attorneys in the meantime, 30 billion could be slashed under a proposal impacting a 24 7 hotline that helps foster children and their caretakers resolve conflicts and receive support. Child welfare advocates say the move could shut it down altogether. Either. The governor is proposing cuts to a program that offers grants to people and nonprofits to help buy homes at risk of foreclosure , or the goal is that housing remains available to people with low incomes. But 248 million could be slashed over the next three years. Money to fund several Climate Friendly programs is also up on the chopping block. It includes potential cuts to a program that helps mainly oil and gas workers find new jobs. As we know, california is shifting away from fossil fuels. We have a live look at the State Capitol in sacramento, where the governor is expected to announce this revised budget today. Some republicans say the state should have saved more money in its reserves when the financial picture was much better. Its also important to note that these proposals to cut funding are temporary. State lawmakers might give the final approval. Back in january, the california legislators nonprofit fiscal and policy Advisors Office projected. The governors budget includes nearly 22 billion in general fund support for higher education. Thats actually an increase of 226 million. In the meantime, san jose state senator dave cortese is a member of the state budget and Fiscal Review Committee and a budget subcommittee on education. Ahead of todays announcement by the governor, he says in part, quote, we must safeguard our youth, ensuring they are secure, nourished and engaged in learning so they are prepared for todays challenges and tomorrows opportunities. Our focus must also extend to quality, sustainable careers for our teachers who dedicate their lives to helping others. Now Governor Newsoms announcement is set to get underway at 11 00 this morning. State lawmakers must give the approval on a new Budget Proposal by june 15th. Of course, well be following and watching to see what happens to make up for this huge shortfall that were talking about here. Ginger. Thank you. Laura. Developing this morning as well, an investigation into a freeway off ramp shooting that critically injured a man. It happened around six last night on mclaughlin avenue near the two 8101 interchange. For a time , it closed the off ramp. San jose police say the victim was critically injured but is now stable. And its not exactly clear where the shooting happened. Well, its 506 happening today. Students at uc berkeleys law school graduate, and theres a plan to protest in favor of israel. Protesters say they will display a large sign around campus during the commencement ceremony. The students say the billboard will name nine student organizations that signed a petition to ban speakers who support the state of israel from participating in campus events. The billboard will move around the campus today. Well, scott, as those campus protests continue, cease fire negotiations in the middle east are stalling this as israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed his country would stand alone following President Bidens threat to withhold weapons today in the bays brie jackson is live for us in washington and brie on capitol hill. Some gop lawmakers are also up in arms over bidens recent comments. Thats right. Good morning ginger. So President Bidens threat to stop sending certain weapons to israel is being met with mixed reaction, with one israeli official calling it a very disappointing decision, even frustrating. The Biden Administration standing by President Bidens warning that the u. S. Will halt weapons to the Israeli Military if it moves forward with a full scale assault on rafah. Were currently reviewing some nearterm security assistance, specifically, we paused one shipment of weapons consisting of 1800 2,000 pound bombs and 1700 500 pound bombs, weve not made a final determination on how to proceed with this shipment. Some republicans are raising alarms. Mr. President , if you do not change this policy, you will have destroyed the last best chance to deliver lasting stability in the mideast for generations. While other lawmakers support President Bidens decision and raise concerns about the 1 million palestinians sheltering in rafah. Mr. President , we must now use all of our leverage to make to prevent the catastrophe in gaza from becoming even worse. Former President Trump blasted his political opponents threat to cut off weapons to a close ally. Well, i wouldnt do what biden did. He just abandoned israel. Democrats insist the u. S. Stands firmly behind israel. The president is doing the right thing. We want to support israel. We want to make sure that the actions that they take to defend themselves and to stop us terrorism, do not involve innocent people in their lives. Divisions over the u. S. Response to the israelhamas war are expected to play a key role in the decision voters make in the president ial election, and a key concern for President Bidens Reelection Campaign is that voters are unhappy with his handling of the war and will stay home on election day, potentially tipping the scales for former President Trump in battleground states such as michigan, arizona and pennsylvania. Ginger, thank you. Reporting from washington, brie jackson. And in fact, a very good morning to President Biden and the first lady who are waking up in the bay area this morning, a live look at the Fairmont Hotel on San Franciscos nob hill. Thats where the busy couple is staying. The two arrived on separate flights yesterday. Both are expected to attend fundraisers today before going their separate ways. When they leave the bay area tonight, the president will be in seattle. The first lady goes to southern california. Our kris sanchez is in San Francisco previewing their day and the protests, of course, planned by palestinian supporters. Shell have a live report in the next half hour. Well, from San Francisco, were now taking a live look at san jose. But guess what . Those two places have in common . Some pretty clear weather. All right. Meteorologist kari hall seems like an ongoing theme going into the weekend. Yeah, its going to be a nice one and also very warm compared to what we had last weekend. Its going to be a much different picture. And then looking at our start to the day in temperatures in the 50s, but were anywhere from 50 to 59 degrees. Lets talk about this stagnant air that were seeing due to High Pressure thats trapping our very hot and hazy conditions, and a not Much Movement to the air. So thats going to have an impact on air quality as we go throughout the afternoon. Right now, it is good. Were expecting it to be moderate for the coast and the bay, as well as the east bay and in santa clara valley, where High Pressure tends to push that air down into the valleys. And all of the particulate matter that were putting out there just stay. So well be watching our air quality and temperatures going up. Ill talk more about that in a few minutes. Mike, youve been trying to find us places where we can find a deal on gas. Well, you know, kerry, ive seen prices. Maybe you have as well. Ive seen prices along my route to work, dropping a few more cents each day. In some cases, mill valleys low is now 477 at the arco on redwood highway, now in the south bay. Its santa clara with the best of 463 at platinum gas on washington street bottom. Here, despite others trying, we still have the bay area champion Fremont Fremont fliers on osgood. Two weeks solid. Theyve been at 434. Its on osgood road. Thanks for sharing that on back gasbuddy. Com get your price or give your price. Were looking over here to the roadways where traffic flows very smoothly. But i do have this slowdown one slowdown coming into Mountain View chp updates. They hear about a crash involving one vehicle. There may be debris across multiple lanes. I do see that slowing on the sensors southbound passing san antonio. Thats where youll see in and out costco over on the side across the freeway a fence there. Now coming into the area, those headlights light travel as far as the volume goes so that slowing must be at least some distraction. Well track that. All right mike, thanks. Well, a different kind of workout for your wallet, not the gas prices that mike talks about. I head on today in the bay. The gym membership raising its prices for the first time in more than 25 years. And the reason behind the change. Plus, hes cunning. Hes sneaky. Hes back to tell us his precious story. The big return to middle earth with a whole new movie series of lord the rings. Of 60s and it will be nice and sunny. Today were hitting those High Temperatures around 3 to 4 00 this afternoon, so if you can get in those Outdoor Activities before then, youd probably be a lot more comfortable. Well talk about our weekend coming up in a few minutes. Oh, look at this shot. Carry this golden gate bridge. We see that fog kind of hovering right around the deck. We can see enough of those lights to see a smooth flow of traffic out of the north bay. And through that cool fog thats great. Makes it a little tough to see the roadway, but on the roadway your visibility is just fine. Lets see how we see things on the market. Well check in with silvana. Thanks, mike. Good morning. Im Silvana Henao at cnbc. Lets start with wall street. Its set to extend its rally when the market opens this morning. This after stocks rose yesterday with the dow claiming a seventh winning day as new jobless claims data rekindled hope for a Federal Reserve rate cut later this year. The nasdaq and the s p were also up in focus today. The may Consumer Sentiment data out this morning is expected to ease slightly. Openai plans to announce its Artificial Intelligence powered search product on monday, raising the stakes in its competition with search king google now. The announcement could be timed a day before the tuesday start of googles annual i o conference, where the tech giant is expected to unveil a slew of ai related products and Planet Fitness is hiking its prices for new customers for the first time in over 25 years. Classic card membership will be priced at 15 per month for new members, starting this summer. Current members will continue to pay 10 per month for the duration of their membership. Now, the change comes after months of price testing and several several markets countrywide and Planet Fitness also said it will Start Testing higher prices for its top tier membership, known as the black card, this summer. Scott and ginger i cant believe they kept it that low for so long. I was going to say, you know, i dont know if that even 15 is not bad, i know. Right . Its such an incentive for you to work out. Now you have to look at other bad choices. Im still not going to go. Yeah. All right. Savannah, thank you. Well, trending this morning its official Warner Brothers is returning to middle earth with a new batch of lord of the rings films. But these movies will have a specific focus on one character must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses. Well, it is all about gollum. I dont know, thats great ginger. Its horrible. The new movies will star and be directed by andy serkis, the man behind gollum himself. Now the working title is lord of the rings the hunt for gollum. Hes right there. Yeah, hes not having a great hair day today. The project is currently in its early stage of Script Development and is set to be released in 2026. Filmmaker Peter Jackson will also be a producer for that film, but this is just one of the multiple films based on the beloved j. R. R. Tolkien books set to be produced. All right, that is not a face i want to see. No. Yeah good morning. Good morning everyone. I think weve all felt that way. Yeah i know a great one. Yeah. I dont know if i could take a whole movie of that. Oh, not just one. There may be multiple, maybe multiple. And theyre going to be long. Yeah. It might be good to go to a movie this weekend because. Yeah. You know, i dont want to gripe already, but its hot. And we always look for like, cool places to go hang out, you know costcos. Oh yeah. They got a big refrigerator. Yeah the freezer section wherever you can go to try to find some cool air. Were getting back our natural air conditioning from San Francisco. Take a look at this cool view over the golden gate bridge, and you can see the fog just pouring over the Marin Headlands and down into the bay. So i love that shot this morning thats going to provide San Francisco with some relief from the heat, where yesterday we hit 81 degrees. Were going to bring it down today. But it will be the warmest day of the week for the inland valleys that wont get the effects of that coastal fog. And then mothers day weekend is looking dry with some warm temperatures and were going to gradually cool it off toward the end of next week. Check out the 7day forecast up at the bottom of the screen as we get a live look in oakland this morning that starts out at 54 degrees, and well see those temperatures again. Heating up quickly going from mid 50s to mid 70s. By noon. And well see a High Temperatu
