There were tributes on overpasses, like the one im standing on. A lot of regular citizens, many of them holding flags. Also firefighters and Police Officers, all of them standing at attention. Its the final journey for a young man who devoted his life to try to make bay area roadways safe for everyone else. In officer camilierris case, being on the highways he patrolled cost him his life. Someone suspected of being under the influence. Along the way, Law Enforcement, firefighters and regular citizens stopped to pay their respects. And say a final goodbye to officer camilierri. Its one of the things i saw on Facebook Christmas morning. Im at home opening my presents with my kids and their dads not coming home that day. His body was given the full Police Escort as it travelled to tracy, where the 33yearold grew up and his family still lives. Camilierri was a young father with three children, and just over one year on the job. My son who looks up to people in uniform all the time, i wanted him to see that these guys risk their lives every day, we must honor them when they do die. Once the procession ended, his body was taken to a local funeral home, not far from the home where he left his wife and kids for the last time. On christmas eve. Laura anthony, abc 7 news. Officer camilierri died on christmas eve, he and his partner had pulled to the side of the road in heyward near highway 992 when their car was hit from behind. The suspect is still in the hospital, and at last check in serious condition, he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and will face several felony charges. His name has not been released. Flags are flying at half staff, he leaves behind a wife, a daughter aged 12 and two southerns, ages 6 and 2 respectively, its not just his immediate family who will miss him, Melanie Woodrow continues our Team Coverage with a look at a community that is in mourning as well. In the 7plus years the officer attended Mission City Church in tracy with his family, he became more than a member. Faith was i think the most important thing to andrew. He played base guitar on the worship team. The pastor said he had a calling he couldnt ignore. Eventually leaving his job in pest control to pursue his passion. He really followed his dream to become a chp officer. It was more than a career, it was a calling for him. It was a choice that came with sacrifice, including time away from his family. Offering their support wherever they can. It took more than an hour for the procession transporting officer camilierris body to tracy. Upon arrival in tracy, the flag draped casket was carried by several of his fellow officers. The hospital gowns are decktive and colorful, the group has delivered nearly 2,000 dolls to five hospitals. Every stitch that we make.
