Mark kelly tells us the sheriff says its all news to him. Reporter its due to a car accident sheriff Ross Mirkarimi got into, just a fender bender, but the dmv says the sheriff never reported it like the law says he should. We wanted to sheriff Ross Mirkarimi to tell us why he was illegally driving on a suspended license. We tried his house. Does the sheriff have time for an interview . Hes not here. Hes at his office. Reporter and his office but were greeted by a locked door. His press person did write to us saying the sheriff had no idea he needed to file paperwork. The sheriff only learned of this from the press inquiry. When the accident occurred, he contacted his Insurance Company and was informed that everything was in order, but according to the dmv everything wasnt in order and after a warning that they never received his accident paperwork the chronicle says the dmv suspended the sheriffs license this past winter meaning he has only been allowed to drive to and from his San Francisco home and his office at city hall. On what this license debacle could mean for the sheriffs chances at getting reelected. Its 1 thing to have a political mistake or professional mistake, but when its something about driving and you wind up with a license you can only take to work, well, thats definitely going to have people talking and not in the way you want. We want to maintain habitat and our groundwater and theres really not enough water to do both well. Reporter im standing at the very bottom of the Guadalupe River and as you can see, there isnt a drop of water in sight. The district said even if it were to release a bunch of water here, most of it would just get soaked up in this bone dry soil and it would disappear within a month. Two years ago the Guadalupe River look like this. It was home to many animals like ducks, beavers and other wildlife. Many have since left or died. About seven years ago we covered this rescue during a storm. Search teams had to use rafts to get to a man surrounded by rising water. Today the river isnt flowing at all even in spots where theres water. Its a little discouraging because i come from colorado and everything is thriving and the fish are alive. The hatcheries are stocking the places because theres plentiful water. It would be nice to see it flowing, but we are in our fourth year of drought, so we can only work with ha Mother Nature what Mother Nature gives us.
