Reporter still, grand lake theater had an armed guard on hand who was brought here because of this movie. Theater manager casey foster down played safety concerns. They say 25yearold erlyn sanchezedwards is the driver who pulled off a daring escape from the bay bridge. She crashed this stolen car on the bridge yesterday. The nickname that has come up for the massive el nino brewing in the pacific. Paul, the potential is there. Whether you choose to call it godzilla or not, this is a serious weather issue. El nino is big, it is getting stronger and it has the potential to be the strongest el nino in modern history. We are more than cautiously optimistic at this el nino at this point. Reporter it is this animation that has scientists so intrigued. The side by side comparison shows how 1997s el nino on the left. And a stronger el nino taking shape this year. Over the next three months, this should turn into what i call a godzilla event. Reporter el nino is a band of warmer water in the tropical pacific that changes weather patterns across the globe. Computer models show conditions are shaping up to be similar to the 1997 el nino that triggered devastating floods and mood slides and caused billions of dollars in damage. The average of all of those models show that we will be in the strong category and we could actually see temperatures that rival what we saw in 1997, 1998. Reporter though the event is 4,000 miles away, signs of this building el nino have been washing up on the california coastline in june. In june, red crabs were swept further north on california beaches and record numbers of starving sea lion pups are being rescued as the fish they eat flee to colder water. This warm water stretches all the way from baja to alaska. Reporter el nino is expected to last through the winter into spring of next year, but even then, it likely will take more than one wet winter to erase four years of drought. So why do we care about the strength of an el nino . An el nino is an el nino right . No. Weak el ninos actually have a history of giving us less than average rainfall. It is the strong and very strong el ninos that have a history of giving us wetter than average winters which is what we need. Bill at the jell propoppings lab didnt like the word godzilla. It got his name out around the world. People know who he is tonight. Fire crews are making significant progress against the jerusalem fire raging in lake county. Within an hour, a boater found his board along with his camera and life jacket floating in the lake. So where is he . We dont have a name. We have an approximate height and weight. Reporter South Lake Tahoe police dont know if he had trouble on the water with gusty winds or simply swam to shore. It is interesting. Yeah. We have been looking at small snippets. Theres a lot of pictures on the go pro. We have looked at little corners for clues. Locations in the faroff background. Reporter the man is likely a tourist. Video clips show him speaking a foreign language. He is also recently visited italy and the united arab emirates. The winds could have been Strong Enough to knock the man from his board. If he fell for some reason, hit his head, got knocked out, incapacitated, who knows what happened. Reporter the man rented his board in cash and because of the language barrier, did not leave his name. Police are asking lake tahoe resorts to scour Surveillance Footage to match the mans face with possible guests. No trace of a lake tahoe tourist. Only a trail of photos. Search and rescue teams will be back on the water tomorrow looking for this man. The South Lake Tahoe police have asked the fbi to help identify him. Steve large, kpix5.
