Woman was apparently unharmed. S. W. A. T. Officers had been tailing the man as a suspect in an august 13th murder on lundy avenue but police say the man took off when they realized they were following him. He apparently was trying to go to his house on kirkhaven. Police say he crashed his car, ran toward his house and reached for something in his pants while on the front porch. The officer fired at the suspect once he did not comply with officers demands. The suspect turned around and the officer fired again. Eventually the suspect fell and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Reporter it was the second time in less than a day that officers shot and killed a suspect in the same lundy murder case. Sunday night police shot and killed another man in a strip mall parking lot. They were the fourth and fifth Deadly Police shootings this year. I dont have the data to know why were seeing more right now. Reporter mayor sam liccardo said each case will be investigated by police and the district attorneys office. It is not surprising to me that two very violent homicide suspects might be engaged in some way in provoking but i just dont know and we need to find out. Reporter family members of the latest shooting victim did not want to speak to reporters but they gathered near the spot where the man was killed and laid a bible down in the street. Friends and family of that victim are starting to gather here at the scene. They planned a vigil for later tonight. Police said at a News Conference this afternoon they initially believe that suspect was reaching for something, possibly a gun in his waistband. They said today at a News Conference he was unarmed, however, they did recover a tech 30 weapon, semi automatic assault weapon. They wouldnt say where that weapon was found but they believe it was a weapon used in the commission of the lundy killing. Reporting live in san jose, len ramirez, kpix 5. At that point he knew he was going to be shot. I struggle with that. Reporter its this image that haunts michelle, a snapshot from a Security Camera obtained by the mercury news that shows her friend and former coworker Christopher Max wren, hands raised and in an apparent sign of surrender moments before he was shot and killed. I cant imagine what the victim was going through. Reporter investigators have not said what triggered the shooting but Court Records paint at least a partial picture. For more than a decade hes been in and out of trouble with the law, arrested and convicted multiple times for the possession, sale, or use of methamphetamines. The suspects were running after and intimidating and terrorizing the victim. Reporter she says her former coworker was polite, charming even, and has well documented problems with drugs only tell part of the story. His brother had posted on facebook how much hes going to be missed and how great the out pour was for him. A lot of people loved him. According to Court Records, wren was arrested most recently in february of this year for being under the influence of drugs. Thats around the same time he lost a job. Right now the California AirNational Guard is trying to save a mans life hundreds of miles at sea. The rescue mission started this afternoon in mountain view. A sailor is in trouble 900 miles out in the pacific. Allen martin is following the developing story from our news room. Pretty Daring Rescue theyre going to attempt here. The guardsmen will parachute in to the water and make their way in to the ship where theres apparently a medical emergency. Chopper 5 caught the c130 as it took off this afternoon. Normally the 129th rescue wing would use this in a combat mission. Heres another look at the plane just before takeoff. Theyve loaded it up with supplies to perform this rescue. Not a lot of details available but we know the injured man who needs help is on a vehicle carrier called the green ridge. Those onboard with him dont have apparently what they need to take care of him medically. The Air National Guard did get the call this morning from the u. S. Coast guard. We at the 129th rescuing specialize in rescue operations and since we hold this responsibility at California AirNational Guardsmen to the state of california we will respond in the most severe cases only for a rescue operation. The 129th Air National Guard emphasizes the call in to action only in the most extreme instances. We got an upclose look at what they do a few years ago. Normally theyre flying in to war zones. This was just a practice run but you can see how daring it is. They take hundreds of pounds of gear with them. The team credited with saving the lives of more than a thousand people. State Health Officials have confirmed tonight a second visitor to Yosemite National park has been diagnosed with a case of the plague. That disease is carried by wild rodents and their fleas. The family of a mom who was killed by a stray bullet in the bayview still havent given up hope on finding her killer. Maria lourdes sosa was sought in a crossfire of bullets. Her three kids watched her die. Today her father pleaded for help in finding a suspect. Using a translator, he described his daughters brave actions. When the firing occurred, she was out front with the children and she was running to her children to protect her children when this happened. And she was struck with a bullet. And passed away. A 38yearold man was also shot and killed in the same crossfire. Homicide investigators have collected footage from several surveillance cameras in the area. They believe the person of interest was inside this black truck, likely a dodge ram. A 2 million discovery at a Beverly Hills pawnshop turns out to be the key to solving a new england art heist. How a reality tv star helped catch the thieves. Reporter the star of the reality tv show, Beverly Hills pawn, known for selling high end goods and dealing with works from street artist banksy. He recently became the center of an investigation. 37yearold Oscar Roberts seen in this picture. Hes been sentenced to 28 months in federal prison after he tried to send paintings. The office got a tip that works were being moved from new england to Southern California late last year. Because it was too hot to sell them up there. People with disabilities warn theres a slippery slope. If you allow euthanasia in this case, youre going to have laws covering people with disabilities and people with disabilities will be pressured to end their lives. One of the nations biggest pharmacy chains is promising to make some changes. As consumer watch reporter julie watts explains, walgreens will be giving out more than just pills to people who fill prescriptions. A lawsuit accused walgreens of failing to offer patients a personal consultation with the pharmacist. Thats something required by California Law so customers can ask questions about their drugs. According to a lawsuit an undercover investigation revealed walgreens pharmacists routinely didnt give customers that opportunity. Walgreens agreed to pay a half Million Dollar fine and agreed to implement new measures. The drugstore did not admit any wrongdoing. If you made a purchase on the Pottery Barn Kids website last week, you may be getting a refund. Last monday Pottery Barn Kids offered 20 to 25 all sheets and do and duvets. They refused to refund the difference. That is a violation of ftc truth and advertising regulations so we brought it to the regulators attention. Theyre more sophisticated than you think they are.
