The poll also shows a majority of american voters, 53 , may have an unfavorable view of clinton. Nancy, thank you. Two people are missing this morning near seattle after a gas explosion leveled part of a mot motel 6. Both of them are motel guests. The manager is getting praised for spotting the danger and possibly saving lives. Maria guerrero of our seattle affiliate at the scene in bremerton, washington. Reporter good morning. Two people staying at this motel are still unaccounted for this morning. Firefighters are searching the rubble for any remaining hot spots. There had been around 65 people inside when one quarter of the motel exploded. I have an explosion. Looks like the east side of motel 6 just exploded. Reporter late tuesday night emergency crews responded to a call of a gas leak at this motel 6 in bremerton. While police and firefighters were on the scene, it ignited. A powerful explosion sending debris and flames shooting into the air. Our firefighters were actually as they were in the scene they were blown back about 20 feet. Thankfully no major injuries among our firefighters. Reporter one gas Company Employee was critically injured in the blast, attempting to stop the leak. He suffered severe head injuries and second and third degree burns. Smelling the gas and hearing the leak so bad, i just got as far as away as i could. And then about 5,10 minutes later the explosion happened. Reporter the fiery explosion could have claimed more casualties if not for quick action of the motel 6 manager tonya heinz, a former volunteer firefighter. I can tell by the sound it was about 50 yards from me and the smell was so intense i knew this was very big. I just made an executive decision to evacuate my building and i said, pull that alarm, weve got to evacuate because i was worried about the explosion. Reporter gas crews managed to shut off the gas just before 11 00 last night. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Maria, thank you. Fastmoving flames are forcing more people out of their homes this morning in Washington State. An urgent Evacuation Order was issued overnight for the entire town of coconnaly. 17 fires in washington and among dozens burning in the western United States. Across the country more than 7 million acres have burned so far this year. That is an area bigger than the state of massachusetts. One of the most devastating is in washington. National guard members have joined more than 1,000 firefighters in the field. About 170 square miles have burned here so far, along with dozens of buildings. The conditions the crews are facing here are similar to those at dozens of fires burning across the west. As wildfires spread across Washington State more people are being rushed out of their homes. Overnight one of five fires burning in North Central washington jumped a containment line, racing across a mountain and toward a town of 200. Everyone in the area is being ordered out. Its a battle across the west which has seen nearly 100 fires since this weekend. This fire in Central California presented multiple problems for weary firefighters. Were dealing with deep, rugged terrain. You know, droughtstricken vegetation. Kind of a difficult place to work. Reporter hundreds evacuated in washington are facing new worries this morning. The county sheriff has canceled all days off for deputies in the area to increase patrols in evacuated neighborhoods due to reports of looting. Meanwhile, more than 100 National Guard members have joined firefighters on the front lines. Since the month of june, weve had crews out almost every week for those 14day assignments on fire after fire after fire. So that kind of collective fatigue thats happening throughout the state on many responders is a huge impact. Since weve been here serve seen blackhawk helicopters sent in by the National Guard making water drops over new flames that have parked up in the hills. Some of the burning terrain is so remote and dangerous that firefighters known as Smoke Jumpers are parachuting in to battle the flames and put out hot spots. Meanwhile, the attack from the air continues as it will for weeks, perhaps months to come. Does it feel like theres any end in sight here . Im not looking for an end in sight. Three people are missing in alaska after devastating landslides tore through a small city. At least three landslides swept away several homes on tuesday. The citys fire marshal is among the missing. The fire chief describes it as a town where everyone knows everyone, including the three men who are missing.
