We just learned the gunman was dressed all in black and a ballistic vest when he opened fire using whats described as an assault style rifle. First firing outside the church then inside. A nearby resident got his own shotgun fired at the suspect. The gunman fled in his car and was found dead nearby possibly shot by the neighbor. Possibly dead from a selfinflicted gunshot wound. There is a lot of information. We want to piece the puzzle together before we provide you any misinformation and we want to make sure that we meet with the family members who are effected by this before we release any information publicly. We hope to get this information to you as soon as possible. Tonight the shooter has been identified as 26yearold devin kelley of new braunfels, texas. Weve learned he is a former member of the air force. There is no word on his motive tonight. But the shooting prompted swift calls from bay area leaders for tighter gun control. San Francisco Mayor tweeted how many lives have to be lost for congress to address our dire need for gun law reforms. We owe it to all of those affected by gun violence. Congresswoman nancy pelosi added we have a solemn duty to respond duty to respond not only with prayers and unwaivering love but with action to insure no other family is forced to endure such a tragedy. The Sheriffs Office maintains a fleet of unmarked vehicles which can be easy to spot if you know what youre looking for. The new contract gives teachers an 11 percent raise over three years. They will also get bonuses and other add ones. The maximum class size in kindergarten will get 32 students. They can keep their prep time before advanced placement classes. Thousands of teachers were planning to hold a strike vote this week. Only yards from Million Dollar mansions what was once just a pile of dredge heavy machinery resculpted the sand into trails and building beaches for wild life. Thats a lot of money for a few birds. It is. But there are a lot of birds damaged in the oil spill. Thousands of birds. And this is the way of paying back. It seems to be working. Several species of birds have moved in. They said in a statement we have no choice but to plan a future seismically compliant facility that continues providing safe care for the east bay community. But nurses, activists, and local elected Officials Say sutter is making a choice not to retro fit the berkeley hospital for business reasons. It feels like theyre saying they dont want to serve this community anymore because its financially feasible for them to ask the people here to go to the oakland location. Were saying thats unacceptable. Even though the new location is only 3 miles farther away that could have life threatening consequences in an emergency. Its how far and how long it takes to get to a place when you need care. Its how close it is for that on going engagement when your child is in an emergency situation and in intensive care. Berkeleys mayor says sutter may have a right to relocate the hospital but hes hoping the company will rechange its plans if theres an out cry from the public. What are we going to do as a community . We need to be prepared and make sure we dont let berkeley become a hospital desert. Sutter health wants to promote the berkeley location to doctors offices but all Emergency Services would be relocated to oakland. This is now the first day of standard time.
