More than 6 Million People will be flying this Holiday Weekend. A million of them will be flying in or out of San Francisco, oakland or san jose airports in. Airport Officials Say they are expecting the longer lines at security and also at checkin as well as heavy traffic getting into the airport. They are saying its worth braving the line. Yesterday the first day of winter is perfect. Right on q i know, one of our coldest days of the season. We have those freeze warnings in effect. Heres a look at our temperatures out the door. These temperatures are just going to continue to cool as we get closer and closer to sunrise. Around the coast its a little warmer there. We have frost advisories in effect along the water and then away from the water, thats our coolest areas with the freeze warnings in effect. Temperatures in the mid20s to 30s so protect your pets, pipes and plants. I know some people are traveling or maybe heading to work. Heres a look at that with jaclyn. Right now, folks that are using mass transit we are dealing with some delays. This is bart delays, 20 minutes in all directions at civic center in San Francisco due to an earlier medical emergency. So plan accordingly. Good news with as, muni and caltrain. Those are all running on time. Well take a live look at oakland, the nimitz freeway, 880 looking aokay in both directions still very quiet conditions out there if you are heading over to the oakland airport. No problems. San mateo no problems although its a little crowded westbound from hayward to foster city. 14 minutes though in the green. 101 towards sfo, heres a live look, you can see traffic is very light. So as long as youre leaving the house on time, youll be a okay heading over to the airport there. I cant promise you anything once you get to the airport though. [chuckling] but its quiet for drivers heading along 101 all up and down the peninsula. The state insurance commissioner is urging companies to provide victims up to 100 of personal property coverage limits. A january 8th deadline has been set for companies to reply to the request. Policyholders have filed over 15,000 Residential Property claims in Sonoma County resulting in almost 7 billion in damages. Of that total, there were nearly 5,000 residences destroyed in the fires. Insurance companies have paid out about 2. 4 billion so far. Pg e is close to restoring temporary overhead power lines to coffey park in santa rosa. The west side of coffey park now has power and the east side is expected to be energized by today. This week, two napa fire survivors took time to thank the First Responders who came the rescue. Philip and linda visited the napa air operations hangar taking this photo with one of the officers who helped them. Chp posted it on facebook. The couple was lifted to safety from the atlas fire in october by a chp helicopter. A big deadline today for those looking to get Health Insurance through covered california. Lawmakers on capitol hill have left themselves some extra work in the new year approving a shortterm solution to government funding. The federal government had faced a shutdown at midnight tonight. These are the last votes expected in the house for the day, the week, the month and the year. [ applause and cheers ] before leaving dc, they approved a stopgap measure to fund the government for four weeks averting a government shutdown. The bill serves as a shortterm extension to the childrens Health Insurance program, or chip, and provides funding for veterans healthcare. In response to the north korea threat, the measure also sends 4. 7 billion to the department of defense for missile defense. The development came just days after republicans passed a sweeping tax plan. Some lawmakers expressed concerns about the recent fast pace on capitol hill. People of goodwill of both parties try and fail to get us back to regular order and to end this process of moving crisis to crisis. The house also passed a separate 81 billion Disaster Relief bill to help puerto rico and states like texas, florida and california recently impact by hurricanes and fires. The senate though voted to delay the measure until the new year. The Emergency Response is over but recovery and rebuilding efforts go on. The president is expected to sign both the funding bill and the new tax overhaul bill as soon as today. The bill funds the government through january 19th. Today the United Nations Security Council will meet to vote on whether to impose new sanctions on north korea. Those could include cutting limits on its imports of refined oil and forcing all north koreans working overseas to go home within 12 months. The proposed sanctions are in response to north koreas test of its most powerful Intercontinental Ballistic Missile yet the government said it is capable of hitting anywhere on the u. S. Mainland new details on that suv attack in australia. The 32yearold driver who police say drove into christmas shoppers in melbourne was released from the hospital this morning. He is now in Police Custody and will be interviewed in the coming days. 19 people were hospitalized. Roads in the area are now back open. A suspect has been arrested accused of two mail bombings including one that targeted an east bay police officer. That second package was delivered by the post office last month to the officers home in alameda. Husband wife opened it and it exploded and burned his wife opened it and it exploded and burned her. 56yearold ross laverty is responsible. He was arrested in 2013 boo the very officer he targeted. Investigators say laverty mailed the bomb in retaliation against the officer. They say they used dna found on a battery from the first bomb to link him to the crimes. The first bomb was sent to a home in east palo alto. The man who opened that one had burns to his stomach and legs. Here is a look at what is left of the two bombs and what the labels look like. Laverty now faces federal charges of mailing an explosive device with the intent to injure or kill. No word when he will face a judge. Developing overnight in antioch, flames tearing through multiple buildings. At least five abandoned buildings caught fire just before 10 00 last night. The Contra Costa Fire Department tweeted this picture from the scene. No injuries. Another building later caught fire and it was put out. Right now its not yet clear what started these fires. Past that, no problems. 880 through san lorenzo getting heavy in that southbound direction although we are tracking any speeds in the yellow just yet. We are getting reports of some debris flying from someones vehicle and causing many cars to swerve around in the area. But we arent seeing any major delays just yet. Everyone starting to take the Holiday Travel season off. Heres a live look right now over San Francisco and the skyline. It looks very festive this morning. We have Christmas Lights out and lit up over the embarcadero. You can see the bay bridge lights up there as well but you cant see the temperatures. Its cold all around the bay. We have a freeze warning in effect for much of it especially areas away from the water until about 7 00. So concord right now 34 degrees. But the coolest spots inland valleys, livermore, santa rosa, San Francisco on the relative mild side at 43. Heres a look at your weather picture around the bay. High pressure bringing us high, dry skies really over the next several days. We dont have any major rain event in our immediate forecast. That area of low pressure you see, that is farther east and it is bringing a storm system to parts of the south especially if you are traveling over texas. But three things to remember closer to home. Its a similar weather pattern to what we have been seeing the last week. Clear to cold start, sunny and cool this afternoon. So we will see sunshine by this afternoon even though it will feel brisk. Seasonal weather, slightly below average for this time of the year. Thats the according to the climate prediction center. The agency just released this map showing the drought outlook for december through march. It shows dry conditions developing in a vast Southern Area of california extending from san diego to the north. And the east bay area, as well. The bay area has reported less than a half inch in many spots since december first. The Trump Administration is being urged to hold off renewing the 50year license for the oroville dam. At issue the spillway problems that became evident during last winters heavy rain. Elected officials and those below the troubled dam say the federal government has to know why the spillway broke last winter. What we really want is a change in how this dam is operated because its operated in such a way that puts our communities at risk.
