Reporter just a short while ago we learned Monterey CountyHealth Officials lifted the closure of seven beaches here after 4. 7 million gallons of raw sewage spilled into the ocean. Raw sewage flowed into monterey bay after equipment failed at a Wastewater Treatment facility that serves salinas and other peninsula cities. A Health Official said a gate wasnt properly shut or failed between 11 00 and midnight friday. Crews finished repairs and stopped the flow of sewage around 4 30 a. M. Beach closure signs were still going up around 10 a. M. , nearly 12 hours after the sewage spill. Unless theyre really early surfers that get up that early, it might have been very few people that would be in contact with the water. Reporter so again the closure of seven beaches here in Monterey County was just lifted a short while ago, but it is not quite safe to go into the water.
