A single vote was all it took to kill a san bruno Housing Project that was three years in the making. 425 unit mills park project was supposed to be built on the 600 block of el camino real. It had been approved by 70 of the voters. That would have revived five acres of land the airport, caltrain and san brunos downtown. The project was set to have a 40,000 foot groceries door, 64 affordable units in Community Meeting space. The developer pledged to pay 10 million into the citys general fund. In the end, the last vote needed was a no vote. The councilmember arguing the project would make parking and traffic worse. The proposal could be brought back before the council in about one year. East palo alto is serving as an example where other cities are falling short. They are halfway to the goal of building 500 Affordable Housing units in five years and that is a big part of it. There will be over 91 Affordable Housing units thanks to a 20 million grant. City leaders are calling on others to step it up in the face of the housing crunch. Cal fire has a new weapon to fight wildfires. They can carry thousands of gallons of fire retardant. These aircraft carriers can carry up to 4000 gallons of aircraft retardant. The ones currently in the fleet only carry up to 1200 gallons and that increase means these wings will stop wildfires a lot faster. This gives us another tool in the tool box. Cal fire is the only Fire Department aviation fleet in the world with its own fleet of larger tankers. They were previously used by the military so they need some modifications.
