The project was set to have a 40,000 foot groceries door, 64 affordable units in Community Meeting space. The developer pledged to pay 10 million into the citys general fund. In the end, the last vote needed was a no vote. The councilmember arguing the project would make parking and traffic worse. The proposal could be brought back before the council in about one year. East palo alto is serving as an example where other cities are falling short. They are halfway to the goal of building 500 Affordable Housing units in five years and that is a big part of it. There will be over 91 Affordable Housing units thanks to a 20 million grant. City leaders are calling on others to step it up in the face of the housing crunch.
