Is impacting people of all ages. The Kansas Department of health says a patient over 50 who did have preexisting conditions died as a direct result of vaping. Others who have been sick have been young and in good health. Idaho and hawaii reported their first illnesses tuesday and the American Lung association is out with a new warning do not use ecigarettes. I think the Lung Association is giving very sensible advice. Reporter stanton, a professor of medicine at the university of california San Francisco says its time for the food and Drug Administration to act. So far, theyve expressed a lot of concern, but they havent yet issued a single regulation about ecigarettes. Reporter no specific product or ingredient has been tied to these illnesses, which is really hampering the investigation. Of the three people who have been hospitalized here, two have been released from the hospital, one is still in hospitalization, but doctors say theyre not sure that lungs will ever fully recover. There have bn concerns for years that were addicting an entire generation of young people who werent smoking to start off with and who knows the longterm consequences. Richard sackler and members of his family who own Purdue Pharma could pay up to 4. 5 billion as part of a settlement connected to the opioid epidemic. Thats according to a source close to the negotiation between Purdue Pharma and state attorneys general. Sackler family members could also give up ownership of the Pharmaceutical Company as part of the deal. Stanford University Law professor george triantis.
