We begin with that breaking news on the bay bridge right now. Yeah. Its a mess. Eastbound traffic diverted to one lane after a car caught fire. You can see now, whats left of that car is in the middle of your screen. This is what it looked like about 15 minutes ago. Flames shooting out of that car, chp reported some explosions and they will have to check out the bridge for possible damage. Look at this. Absolute gridlock right now. This is a live look at first and market street. No one going anywhere. You have people trying to leave the chase center and the giants game. There is no estimated time on when the lanes on the bridge will reopen. But we will keep you posted. Live look at the State Capitol where the final day of legislative session took a gruesome turn. This is an attack on the democratic process and an assault on all californians and must be met condemnation for everyone. We strongly condemn what happened because that should never happen. Reporter antivaccine leaders say they have no connection to the woman responsible though one man says she approached him. I got a couple of inches away from her face. Bart train operators are sounding the alarm about the citys fleet of the future. They say passengers could get trapped during an emergency. Kpix5s Christin Ayers on their concerns and how bart is responding. Reporter if you have ridden one of barts new trains you know they are speedy and sleek but some train operators are speaking out saying they may also be unsafe. Jusef doesnt find driving the older model trains but when it comes to the newer trains. When theres a pretty glaring safety issue involved. It is hard to be at ease when you are oping them ressirsays the iswi w soof g control cars. The cars with room for a train operator to sit. Giving passengers only one unlocked exit door. That current configuration poses a pretty significant safety risk. Reporter the risk is that riders could get confused in an emergency. Or they could get stuck if they encounter an unruly passenger. Nassir and another train operator, michael granate spoke up about it at yesterdays bart board meeting. I encourage you to talk to train operators about the future. Reporter a bart spokesperson told us the new configuration is no different for the rider than being on the last car of one of the old trains with only one exit. In a statement, bart said the cars are safe. It is inaccurate to say they wont be able to exit a car as there are many points of exits. But nassir wants more from bart including emergency drills from the new trains which bart has not yet conducted. Until then, he says passengers are vulnerable. Drill season is in the until next month and will include Emergency Training on board the fleet of the future trains. In walnut creek, Christin Ayers, kpix5. Tonight, house lawmakers demanding documents from four big tech firms as part of an antitrust investigation. The Judiciary Committee wants to see emails and other communications from top executives at amazon, apple, facebook, and google. The companies have a deadline of october 14th to turn over those documents. A letter from the Committee Says it is loat nt are engaging in anticompetitive conduct, and whether existing laws and policies are sufficient. The companies are promising to cooperate with the bipartisan investigation. Twitter is getting some heat tonight for a new ad campaign on San Franciscos sidewalk. The city said it is illegal. They are part of a campaign to promote conversations on the site. The city is saying they are vandalism. San francisco public work says the department may eventually have to clean up the graffiti. If that happens, twitter will be fined. We reached out to twitter for comment. We have yet to hear back. Well, desperate housewives star felicity huff man is about to take on a new role as a prison inmate. She has been sentenced to 14 days in prison. And a fine. 250 hours of Community Service and a year of probation. She is the first parent sentenced in the college emissions scandal. The u. S. Bureau of prisons will make the final decisions. Dublin is almost a camp. Not surrounded by razor wire or anything like that. It is a place where minimum security prisoners enjoy the luxury of it. They dont present the high risk of escape. Reporter tony brass is a former federal prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney. I have had clients in dublin. Dublin is known as a pretty good place to go if you have to serve prison time. I have inflicted more damage than i could ever imagine. She said her daughter told her i dont know who you are anymore. Prosecutors argued she should spend 30 days in prison for paying 15,000 to have her daughters sat answers corrected. She was sentenced to half that after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud. Yeah, you dont see a lot of federal sentencing that is only a handful of days. Its a very rare thing to see. Only in a federal misdemeanor which are very rare would you see a sentence like this. So it is as light as i have seen. Reporter now that the judge has ruled on huff man, 14 others who also pleaded guilty will soon learn their sentence. We had to pay for our sons college the Old Fashioned way. So, honestly, i feel like the 14 days was lenient. Reporter huffman must also pay a 30,000 fipem community she must report to prison by october 25th. She is facing much more serious charges for allegedly paying half a Million Dollars to get her daughters into usc and she refused a plea deal. By the way, the dublin prison has housed a number of famous inmates in the past from patty hearst to heidi fleiss. Senior officials are headed west to intervene in californias home crisis. And this. A barrier to prevent a vehicle from slamming into the crowd. The spikes drive into the ground as well as into the engine of a car that tries to drive through it. San jose could be the next bay area city to ban the sale of those ecigarettes following a National Outbreak of illnesses linked to vaping. City councilwoman is especially concerned about the effects on children who use vaping devices. She is proposing a ban on the sale of all Tobacco Products within a thousand feet of a school. She also wants a city wide ban on the sale of any ecigarettes or flavored tobacco that lack fda approval. The cdc says there are some 380 confirmed vaping related illnesses across 36 states and the u. S. Vir anyone islands. Six people have died. Two bay area cities, San Francisco, and richmond have already passed bans on e cigarettes. Sales are suspended until the fda weighs in on whether vaping is safe.
