At the live news desk, im ken bastida. Judging from the Grocery Store this morning a lot of people change their mind i did not travel today because they were shopping. Such a mess out there. Hopefully you had a chance to look up and enjoy the show in the sky today. We kind of had a unique cloud viewing day, we dont often get clouds that look as varied and is in such interesting yesterday me she would look like from our camera that sits on top of the sales force at a time lapse. Specifically i want you to watch the moment right here where that one cumulus cloud built above the rest of them. Do you see it there . That is unique for us, we get those clouds but we dont get them anywhere near as often as the rest of the country. Those are the clouds that grow up and become thunderstorms. That one there, we can see a building right there. Now one in the middle of your screen probably dropped a little bit of rain over, thats probably the one that was over the mountains down in the south bay and maybe even dropped in the snow. As we go back and take the camera towards the west, you can see the clouds kind of falling apart. Once the sun goes down we remove a large portion of the energy for the storms to build those clouds higher so the storms are going to start to quiet down over the next few hours and there will be anywhere near as many of them tomorrow. Tomorrow, and friday, we are taking a break from the exciting weather. Its good, you can use a couple of days after yesterday and today to get out there and not be concerned about the weather. We look ahead to the next dorm in a unique way and i know this map looks weird. First thing i want you to do is look at the day this is saturday were looking at a forecast of what the atmosphere is going to be doing. By saturday you can see california hears north america we are looking out across the pacific if you have good eyesight, there is hawaii. This is a map showing you the water vapor content in the atmosphere and the brighter the color the more water vapor there is. Down in the tropics there is a lot of them look at the stream coming off hawaii and pointed right at us. That is a telltale signature that you can pick up in the atmosphere. And those are what Atmospheric Rivers look like. This is a weak one. I know if you been paying attention you hear Atmospheric River those usually drive major rain event is is not one of those. But it is an important characteristic of the rain coming our way for saturday night through monday. Its going to be a different kind of storm. Its not going to be like the one they came through yesterday and today with all of the thunderstorms in the low elevation snow. Storms that are driven by Atmospheric Rivers have a little more water vapor to work with, you get bigger rainfall totals. But, you dont get lower snow levels. And you dont necessarily get a hold of thunderstorms with it. Look at the longrange forecast for december 2nd thats for monday. Going ahead into next week if the sixtenday outlook for the degree of confidence that our rainfall is either going to be above or below average. The deeper the green, the higher the confidence we are going to be above average. Its early on this but start thinking ahead to the next dorm getting here, second half of the day saturday and pretty much going into monday, possibly tuesday of next week. It wont rain continuously, but were in for more rain, for sure at this point. More as we get closer to it. Back to the storm at hand, this is high death doppler. Look at the band of showers marching its way across, this is going to move its way, you may have already noticed some of the showers from that. You can see the grades there, with some of the better rain coming in on the south side at the moment. Snow showers will continue to move this way and that is the way the rest of tonight is going to go itll be isolated showers. I think perhaps the one thing that stands out more than anything else about tonight is how cold it is about to get. 30 degrees in santa rosa. And that is officially for downtown. There will be locations out around the perimeter of town that get into the 20s tonight, tomorrow and then again on saturday morning in the north bay. Its going to be cold thanks to the storm that came through and dragged a lot of cold air down with it. Even though we may not be that cold everywhere else, take out your part of the bay were all going down in the mid to low 30s. Itll feel different in the morning. The winter storm warning is still lasting, we just heard ken talking about this saying if you dont need to go, dont go. It is difficult travel that stays in effect until 4 00 on thursday. Lets get you into the daytime highs for tomorrow. We will start out down in the south bay, look out the shades of green. Low 50s is the best you are going to get. Even over here through Contra Costa County low 50s. North bay, same story, 51 canfield, 52 rafael and up top no big changes. You not getting out of the 40s all day and then in the seven day forecast, take a look at the break. Friday, even thursday, theres a small chance for a leftover chance for a shower but dont count on much. There is a freddie were taking the days out from rain, make the most, get outside and do what you need to do. Next dorm gets here, could potentially be a wet one. Back over to you. Take a break.
