But this story has an unexpected twist. Some new video shows a ups worker allegedly stealing an ipad from a package she just delivered in alameda county. The incident captured on a home surveillance camera in piedmont on tuesday. A couple of minute later the victim went out to pick up the package and noticed it was empty. You can see that person walking in the driveway, seemingly confused. Police contacted ups and arrested this woman on her delivery route yesterday. Investigators say she is a seasonal worker. Piedmont police say they dont know if the suspect is connected with other thefts in the area, but she does have a criminal record. The weather not playing ball as we head into one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. A foggy day across the bay area delaying and canceling many flights and more Stormy Weather could lead to more travel nightmares. For that we go to meteorologist darren peck. Before i get to the rain for tomorrow night, we have to talk about fog once again for tomorrow morning. Look what happened over the last few hours. These are current visibility readings. Were only spotlighting the north bay and inland valleys of contra costa valley. See that. 3 in santa rosa . Thats how far you can see down the road in miles. We already have issues. Tomorrow morning will be foggy, but theres help. The winds will pick up into the later hours, so tomorrow will be different than today in that the fog will only hold on for the Early Morning hours. By the time we get into the afternoon, the wind will start to clear it out. So thats good news. But the wind is coming in on the leading edge of the rain. Lets talk about that in detail. The good news on this is the rain is mainly going to be confined to late saturday night and early sunday morning. By that i mean from like midnight saturday night going into sunday, and by 9 00 a. M. Sunday, weve seen 90 percent of it. We pick up about a half an inch to an inch. Thats the first storm. The next one arrives in time for christmas, and we do need to talk about a chance of rain. Right now lots of travelers still stranded there. Some had better luck. Betty yu spoke to some travelers whose hopes of a get away got a little messy. Reporter a lot of people here at sfo have spent hours trying to figure out a way home and its not been easy. Add to that, the tsa says this Holiday Season theyll screen a Record Number of travelers. We live at the airport now. Reporter this family is feeling down and literally stuck at sfo. After a full day of delays and cancellations as they try to get to portland, oregon. We were trying to get any route, but it was going to reroute us through seattle and wed get there at midnight. Reporter right now theres been 315 delayed flights and 33 cancellations. The fog grounded many flights throughout the afternoon. Mechanical problems held up others. I was really looking forward to seeing my aunt. I dont get to see her often. Reporter sfo says today is the single busiest travel day in december with 10,000 more people expected than a normal friday. Tonight it wasnt hard to spot travelers in misery. My mom and dad told me it was delayed and then i hareport morning flight was canceled, this family planned to travel to chicago and then drive to milwaukee. The reunion was particularly sweet for this family. They drove from South Lake Tahoe to pick up their daughter from college. No sleep and now we have to get back in the traffic once she gets here. Its unbelievable out there. Reporter aaa says that the best day to travel is Christmas Eve and the most expensive day to travel will be the day after christmas. Live at sfo, betty yu, kpix 5. And Holiday Travel got even more chaotic in los angeles when protesters blocked traffic heading to the airport. At one point several of them got in the street and laid down with a of Airline Caterers are protesting for higher wages and Better Health care. From headaches at the airport tonight to nightmares on the road. An overturned crane blacked traffic for hours today. Mark sayre is live in san jose with more. Reporter it may be hard to believe, but its now been more than 17 hours since the crane overturned. Crews just departed about 15 minutes ago, but still the eastbound roadway is not open and the travel disruptions are continuing. Late into the night, cal trans crews were still working to repair the guardrails and clean up spilled fuel. Highway 237 is a critical commuting corridor connecting highways 880 and 680 with highway 101 and Mountain View as the highway remained closed heading into the evening commute, drivers backed up on side streets, and there was no shortage of frustration. How bad is it today . It never takes this long. Reporter tell me about travel. Its terrible. Like 3 hours to get home now. Reporter from where to where . Mountain view to livermore. Reporter how long does it usually take . Like 2 hours. Reporter the chp says a large 60ton crane was traveling westbound on highway 237 just before 6 00 this morning when it swerved this avoid traffic. The crane then tipped over and crashed into the median blocking all eastbound lanes. For most of the day the entire freeway in both directions between north 1st street and zancor road remained closed. We understand its inconvenient and want to get it open as soon as we can. We have the right personnel and equipment on scene right now. Reporter getting the fallen crane off the roadway was an engineering challenge in its own right as 2 other large cranes were brought in and the accident crane was disassembled on the roadway. The crane was finally hauled away nearly 12 hours after the accident with commuters still unsheer when theyd get home. Im taking the side roads because traffic is really bad. Reporter longer than usual . A lot longer. And this morning it was worse. It was 40 minutes getting down here. Reporter now the crane driver only had minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. Fortunately when the crane toppled into the on coming lanes, no cars were impacted. The crews have departed. Chp is staging down the way at eastbound 237, but at this point its not opened and we have no official time when reopening is expected although it appears to be happening fairly soon. A rolling chain link fence gate dislodged somehow and fell on the boy as he played on the playground at mark day school. He was 7 years old. His name hasnt been released. Police arrested a pacifica man after they say he kidnapped a woman at gun point. Officers responded to a suspicious call this morning. A person reported hearing noises from an empty living space. Soon after they reported seeing 2 people leave together in a vehicle. Hours later police found the vehicle along with the victim and arrested a 26yearold felon. Meanwhile in oakland, police have arrested the man they say robbed several metro pcs stores at gun point. Deandre campbell is accused of robbing 3 stores on foothill boulevard and international between october and december. He now faces multiple counts inasinclt sag wiulth weapon. Tonight the city of San Francisco is launching a new initiative to help People Living with hiv and aids. City officials want them to have one less thing to worry about, so theyve created a program that will offer rent subsidies. To qualify applicants must be spending at least 70 percent of their income on rent. The 1 million in funds being used for the program are expected to help at least 120 individuals. Get ready to pay more on your gas and electricity bill. Tonight pg e has struck a deal with state officials that could have customers paying about 6 more a month on average. That is a jump of about 3 percent for the average customer. Pg e says that most of the money will go toward wildfire safety programs. The sierra snow pack is seeing its best start in nearly a decade. 109 percent of average for this time of year. Heres a look at interstate 80 heading toward e. Sunday is when it will be an issue for anybody trying to travel in the mown at mountains. If you have plans to go to the sierra, 7 00 a. M. Until 10 00 at night tomorrow theres a Winter Weather advisory. We could pick up about 7 inches of snow in the higher elevations. This is for the sunday travelers into the mountainses. If you have to get into the mountains, go tomorrow or wait and go monday. But sunday is going to be a little messy. The timing on the rain is going to be a little different. While the snow impacts the sierra for the second half of the day, the rain is coming to us much earlier than that. In fact about 24 hours from now were going to notice the rain starting to pick up right off the coast. Heres the futurecast and that says saturday at 7 30. Hasnt really made it on shore yet. Good rain, but its not moving a lot. Here we are midnight, and its just now starting to come onat shore. Then this is our time from midnight to about 10 00 in the morning on saturday. You can watch that wall just move right across the entire bay area. Thats good widespread steady rain. Mostly falling while youre sleeping. Good news there. As we get into sunday, were not entirely done. Theres a chance and a likely chance well see scattered showers going into sunday afternoon. Theres noon. We pick some up in the north bay, but thats about it. By sunset on sunday, we should have clearer skies. Should be a pretty sunset. Heres the rainfall totals from it. About a half inch for the north bay, similar stories down here for the south bay. Maybe a little less in some of the shadowed areas. Thats the first storm. The next one arrives tuesday night, Christmas Eve, and brings rain into christmas. And that will be the focus for the holiday. We have to talk about rain here. It looks a little better than earlier, but the forecasts have really wobbled around. But theres some stability with the idea rathat on christmas day. The amounts still remain to be seen.
