We are being told it was a tree limb that fell onto a group of people, the good news here, people telling us that injuries are minor, no word on what caused the tree to fall in the first place and you can see a lot of emergency crews there. There have been other incidents of people being injured at the park including a woman who was left paralyzed after tree came down in 2018, we will have more information as it comes in. The baking temperatures across the bay area and the east bay, social distancing rules kept the pool closed, instead, people braved the heat on the Tennis Courts and at the skate park. Despite the heat, the beaches were not quite as packed as they were on memorial day, but we did spot plenty of trash left behind by the quality crowds. It was also scorching in the south bay. We go to san jose to see the covid19 concerns and how they are making it harder to find places to cool off. Reporter until now, people who do not have access to air conditioning have had very few options in san jose. In fact, the best advice has been to stay in the shade and drink water. Homeless advocates walk the streets of san jose to hand out water to people on the sidewalk. The 78yearold came to the king library, one of the places he would normally go during a heat wave, to cool off, but is closed along with all the other places he would go, because of the pandemic. All the libraries are closed. In the Senior Centers are close. Reporter he came outside because the room he rents downtown does not have air conditioning. I do have a fan that keeps me cooler. I drink a lot of water, i can survive. Reporter during this time, many others will be struggling. We expect to see an increase in hospitalizations and Emergency Department visits with the temperatures that get to this level. Reporter doctor wang says its a dangerous time with the combination of High Temperatures and close schooling facilities. Typically with say malls are placed with airconditioning but thats not available during this time. Just a cool, shaded area would be most important to find. Reporter is finding shade is the best advice going, advocates are calling on the city and the county to open up unused hotel rooms. This needs to happen now, we have tens of thousands of empty hotel rooms in the city, and something needs to be done to move our people into those rooms. Reporter late this afternoon the city of san jose decided to open up five Community Centers as places where people can cool off, the Community Centers are mayfair, camden, seven trees, roosevelt, and Cyprus Community center, they will be open from now until thursday as cooling centers. Hot weather all across the bay area, including San Francisco, the airport made it up to 89 degrees, tying the record set 46 years ago in 1974. Downtown San Francisco the temperature topped out at 81 degrees which is short of the record. San jose broke todays record High Temperature getting up to 97 degrees this afternoon, the record high from 124 years ago, thats one of the oldest records on the books in san jose and the old record was 95 degrees set in 1896. Tomorrow will be another day of hot weather, maybe a degree or two cooler than today but that still puts us at record territory, the heat advisory continues through thursday for all of our inland locations, tomorrow will be the hottest day, and the temperatures drop a little bit for thursday but bigger changes later this week, we will talk about that in the full forecast. The other big story we are following tonight, Governor Newsom giving hair salons and barbershops the green light to reopen, in counties that give the goahead as well. It wont be the same experience you are probably used to. Reporter for everyone beginning to look like an extra from fast times at ridgemont high, the moment youve been waiting for has arrived. Barbershops and hair salons have been given the green light to reopen in select counties. We worked with the industry and we think these guidelines are appropriate. Reporter at Arthur Sebastian salon, the owners is already coming up with ways to implement physical distancing and other measures to stop the spread of covid19. Will also have a divider between this area and the chair. We have to take this very seriously, i think we are also going to implement face shieldso morsr our stylus. Reporter those facemasks will be for trips to the grocery store, they are among 10 pages of regulations salon owners and stylists must comply with. I also wanted to keep the mask on because this is the way its going to be, the operators in the salon will all be Wearing Masks and the clients will have to wear masks. Its going to be a bit of a different experience. Reporter the man who owns this pacifica salon says customers should feel safe, because cleaning was already part of the game. Salons are uniquely equipped in terms of businesses to deal with sanitation and sterilization because we regularly do that anyway as we are required to do that by the state. Just as some businesses are being allowed to reopen, a covid19 outbreak has hit a bay area seafood packing plant. They say at least 38 of their employees at the morgan hill facility have tested positive and we are told that most are not showing any symptoms. The plan is to retest all workers. The santa ara county Health Officials in fact inspected the facility and found proper sanitation procedures in place. Cities had to fend for themselves. San francisco functioned much better than most other cities. Reporter churches and schools were closed, San Francisco passed a mandatory mask order, and an antimask league sprung up complaining. The newspaper said wear a mask and save your life. Ands new husband, john mccrea was on board the uss mallory bringing injured troops home on armistice day, he received this letter from his mother saying she had heard of no new cases of influenza for several days. Soon, the mask law was lifted and life returned to normal. On november 21, 1918, at noon all the sirens and whistles blue in the city that ended the having to wear masks in San Francisco. Temperatures tonight only dropped to the 50s at best. Mostly low to mid 60s and thats a warm jumping off point for some hot temperatures tomorrow, we made it up to 81 degrees in San Francisco, 75 or a hightemperature tomorrow because the onshore breeze will kick in a little earlier in the day but those temperatures are still 10 degrees above average. San jose, no such luck with the breeze, temperature is in the low to mid 90s during the afternoon, concord reaching into the upper 90s and i think you were going to cut touch 100 degrees once again easily into record territory by the east bay and santa rosa also well into the 90s, probably hytop a of 94 degrees around 3 00 tomorrow afternoon, but this is the hottest weather we are going to get for a while, pick things will back off a little bit thursday and more so on friday, temperatures across the board tomorrow, well above average, 60s along the coast where you get the first of the relief, mid to upper 70s and lower half of the 80s around the bay, well into the 90s and even touching triple digit territory further inland. The place is most likely to reset records tomorrow, santa rosa tying a record temperature of 94 degrees, livermore will get close but like today falling just short and concord reaching up to 100 easily breaking the record of 94 degrees and the uv index is going to be close to the top of the scale once again, you can burn in 15 minutes or less especially with fair skin. The temperatures will back off a bit on thursday and we actually have some showers in the forecast by saturday, coming up and 11 00 we will equate online with future cast and show you that chance of rain. This was not a small limb laying on the ground, it covers section of the park, earlier we saw crews bringing out a stretcher and treating people at the scene, minutes ago we spoke to a witness who was still a little shaken up about what happened. It was a big explosion and the tree came down and we all came running down and there was all kinds of debris like splinters and everybody just ran over and picked up the tree branch and asked if there was anyone underneath.
