They say losing his job could be the least of the store workers trouble. The fight happened right thworker suneheinjuigh paramedics wheelm in a stretche suspected shoplifter died at the scene. Unconscious, didnt have a pulse. Police did cpr until paramedics arrive. Reporter initial witness information suggest the store worker used a chokehold on the man. The subject is not breathing after being put in a head lock during a fight. Reporter Antioch Police say the 56yearold worker caught a 34yearold man attempting to steal meat from behind the butcher shop. The worker told police the man attacked him after he asked him to stop. What investigators will be looking at is how the incident took place and what type of force was used. Reporter Paul Henderson is a veteran prosecutor and kpix 5 legal analyst. He said theyll ask whether the worker responded with reasonable force for the situation. The District Attorney says theyll also look at the cause of death, intent, and witness statements. If an agent from the store exercised an inappropriate use of force for an individual that was on the property, thats going to be key. Reporter the das office declined an on camera interview. They say this type of case is not as simple as someone claiming selfdefense. And lucky has a store policy preventing workers from stopping shoplifters, and they have fired people in the past for that. No word on the job status of that store worker.
