Were going to see those temperatures soar this afternoon. And in fact, today, the hottest day of the week. And in fact well see some of the hottest temperatures that weve seen so far this summer. So get ready for that. Please try to do what you can to stay safe and cool in this heat. All right, heres a live look with our sutro camera and check out our temperatures this morning. It is already a warm start to our day. 50s and 60s and 70s this morning. 73 in concord right now and 70 in oakland and 74 in livermore and 63 in San Francisco. Mid 70s in san jose and upper 50s right now for santa rosa. So as we head through the afternoon, mid 80s in San Francisco and 90 in oakland and upper 90s in san jose and check out concord, 108 this afternoon. So were talking 17 to 21 degrees above average for this time of year. Lets get right to the heat advisories and excessive heat warnings in effect. For most of the bay area, except for the immediate coastline under those heat advisories and warnings. From 11 00 a. M. Today until wednesday 9 00 p. M. Due to the dangerous heat. Well talk about specifically what you can expect in your area coming up in a few minutes. Michelle . All right, mary, thank you. And because of this dangerous heat, state officials have issued a statewide flex alert for today. Were all being asked to voluntarily conserve energy between 3 00 p. M. And 10 00 p. M. Concord broke the record high yesterday at 101 degrees and people took advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures last night to get out and enjoy the plaza in downtown concord. Earlier in the day an ice cream shop in the square had a line out the door. Its good. Its nice around here, than it is at home. Lets go downtown and get something to eat. When theres excessive heat like there, theres a lot of airconditioning use and of course that drives up the electricity demand. Everyone being asked to raise their airconditioning thermostats to 78 degrees. The biggest wildfire burning right now in Southern California has charred 11,000 acres in the lake hughes area. Crews upped containment to 5 . Reporter Nicole Comstock shows us the devastation so far. Reporter homes and cars were burned to the ground. And the ashes are now visible from the main road leading into this tightknit Mountain Town near lake hughes. This is the terrifying path the lake fire carved through the Angeles National forest. Four of my friends lost their homes right up on canyon. Reporter Michael Casey knows the families very well and knows how hard they worked for what they had. Just took it out you know. So its just its just sad. Reporter out of the thousands of homes that were initially threatened by the lake fire, it appears that only a handful of them out here along pine canyon road were destroyed. Water dropping helicopters and ground crews were able to contain 5 of the fire by nightfall. But with hotter temperatures and gusty winds expected to blow through the steep terrain friday, evacuation orders are staying put. Worse comes to worst, ill take care of each other period. Reporter hes encouraging the firefighters working to save the rest of his neighborhood. Now to tahoe where rescue crews have been busy this week as huge crowds swarmed to the area. A napa man was killed in a boating accident on monday and another man is still missing. Both rented boats from the same company and were not wearing life jackets. More people are hitting the lake with most indoor activities closed and marine safety officers are warning people to be careful. Im anne makovec at the live news desk. And monitoring some breaking news around the bay area. Starting off in the south bay, a fatal crash has all lanes of 85 north shut down right now. This is at camden avenue. This crash involved several vehicles and it happened at about 3 00 this morning. And looks like the shutdown is going to be in place for maybe another hour or so. Were trying to find out a little bit more information only exactly what happened there. Also in San Francisco a shooting investigation. This is in the soma and Mission Street area mission area. Its actually otis street. And we got this video from the citizen app. Witnesses reporting hearing dozens of shots just after 11 00 last night. Police arrived and were hearing reports of two people being taken to the hospital. Waiting for some confirmation from police this morning. So were going to keep an eye on that as well. Back to you. A victory this morning for workers at an oakland mcdonalds. They claim they were forced to wear doggie diapers and coffee filters on their faces in place of proper masks. Alameda county judge granted their request for a preliminary injunction against the owner of to tell graph avenue franchise. It impo health and safety requirements to be followed for the next six months. The plaintiffs claim at least 25 workers contracted covid19. The franchisee told us in june he personally purchased 3,000 masks and 500 sets of gloves for his employees. So far, he has not responded to our most recent request for comment. California hitting another coronavirus milestone. We added 7,000 more confirmed cases making us the first state to top 600,000. 160 more deaths were also reported. Starting today, marin county will art receiving waiver applications for Elementary Schools looking to reopen for inperson learning. While a group of parents launched a website called reopenmarinschools. Com. Which features links to sign petitions and to easily contact local officials who have a large say in giving the green light. Its a really hard topic because its so easy for people to get polarized. Stories in georgia and indiana, where schools are reopening and kids are getting it and lots of kids in communities are getting it by passing it around in schools and high schools in particular. Because theyre in the Wearing Masks and theyre not following the rules. Officials say if infections are less than 200 cases per 100,000 in population local Health Departments can consider waivers. Priority will be given to schools with outdoor space. I think the discouraging thing that is is that in pretty much every Public School at least, and probably in private schools as well, to do it as safely as possible means spending more money. Marin county Health Officials will begin reviewing applications next week. The earliest Elementary Schools could reopen would be september 8th in marin county. About 10,000 people are homeless in the county right now with county leaders predicting another 20,000 will be on the streets over the next five years. The Affordable Housing bond passed in 2016 and it would help fund the project but millions of dollars more are needed. And 59 for santa rosa. So 24 hour temperature change, and we are anywhere from 7 to 14 degrees warmer compared to yesterday at this time. And we will continue to watch those temperatures soar as we head through our afternoon. Were talking about tying or breaking record highs for today. So the heat is on for sure. Now lets show you the excessive heat warnings and heat advisories in effect for most of the bay area. And except for the immediate coastline. Under those heat warnings and heat advisories. The excessive heat warning highlighted in pink and the heat advisory in orange due to the dangerous heat. This is from 11 00 a. M. Today until wednesday night 9 00 p. M. Thats how long this heat event. This heat wave will last for us. So its all because of this strong ridge of High Pressure over the desert southwest. Building in. And this low pressure system that brought the onshore flow thats actually moving away from us. So this ridge of High Pressure will be the dominant weather feature and that is why with that heat dome in place, we are going to see those temperatures skyrocket this afternoon. Taking you hour by hour recayoe high clouds that we have right now for many locations and throughout the day will finally lift and were looking at that sunshine in the afternoon. As we head through tomorrow, we are going to continue with those hot temperatures for your saturday. So this afternoon, for the south bay, looking at triple digit heat and campbell, los gatos and morgan hill. 98 close to 100 degrees for san jose. And milpitas. For the east bay, check out these dangerously hot temperatures. Were talking 108 in concord and 109 in fairfield. And for brentwood. 107 in pleasant hill. Triple digit heat for the tri valley. Around the bay, warming up as well. Were talking mid 80s in San Francisco and 90 for oakland and alameda and 92 for san leandro and for the knot bay mid to upper 90s to triple digit heat. 101 in santa rosa as well as for sonoma. Looking at napa, 100 degrees and 100 for windsor and 106 for yucaipa. Heres the extended forecast and what you can expect. There we go with those temperatures that will continue to heat up for us. So hot day saturday and maybe a touch cooler on sunday. But still, were looking at that triple digit heat inland through monday. And through thursday of next week. Good morning, taking a look at the roadways this morning, if you are working your way through the south bay so far traffic is actually moving okay along 101. We did have an Early Morning serious crash along 85 at camden but all lanes are now open. That Traffic Alert has been canceled now. So travel out of san jose looks pretty good so far. North 101 no delays coming away from the 280 and 680 connector. Travel times so far everything is in the green. North 101, 85, 280 as well as 87. Taking a look at the bay area bridges. Traffic moving at the speed limit. Some extra volume on the roadway here but overall moving nicely out of the east bay as you work your way over into San Francisco with no delays at the bay bridge toll plaza. San mateo bridge off to a good start as well. Things are moving nicely with a 13 minute drive time between 880 and 101. And your Early Morning commute along the Golden Gate Bridge is moving with no delays. 15 minutes southbound 101 to go from the richmondsan rafael bridge as you work your wa into San Francisco. Your main travel times right now are mostly in the green. That includes that ride through the Altamont Pass and it is friday so hopefully friday light conditions continue westbound 580. 205 over to 680 only 24 minutes.
