Thousands of workers at three bay area hospitals are poised to work walk off the job in just a matter of hours. Now at 11 and streaming on cbsn bay area, plans on holding four bay area counties that missed an important newmark. One is San Francisco where kpix 5s joe vazquez is. Reporter it is still the case that frontline workers like restaurant workers or to restore workers, they are not able to shelter in place. They are still out there and getting covid19 in disproportionate numbers. Thats why the state has this new equity rule and not everyone is making the mark. For bay area businesses to continue to open up the state is requiring an equity metric route as a week ago each county has to make sure that the covid 19 tester in the most vulnerable communities is significantly lowering. We learned that four bay area counties have fallen short of that benchmark. They will not be able to move to the next tier of reopening unless those numbers improve. It is about time that we are putting in equity tools that are actually going to have teeth and ensure that the underserved communities will be prioritized. John of the Latino Task Force is the new measurement is working as designed, showing that these communities are being disproportionately affected by covid19. But he says more is needed. More incentives that were encouraged frontline workers to get tested. If they could get a check from the government they are more likely to isolate because of the virus. It will take a village. Although our reasons for wanting to do this are different, for me its to ensure that people are taking care of, but if we are looking at this as an economic tool to get to 50 of opening, you will have to join us in that struggle to prioritize those methods. We failed these communities and we need to get better. The San Mateo County supervisor says they are working on that improvement by moving into some of the hardest hit neighborhoods with the mobile testing sites. The equity component wasnt a part of it before, thank god that it is now. We cant leave anyone behind. We want to make this clear that not every county that missed the benchmark was even eligible to move up. Contra costa county has only been in the red for one week and theyve got a couple more weeks to prove on a variety of numbers before they are eligible to move up. And by the way they say they are opening a new center in bay point in some of the most needy neighborhoods to try to make those numbers bounce. Tonight californias First Progress report on in person education. Pretty promising. We have not seen a connection between increased transmission and School Reopening or in person learning. So far 28 counties have resumed some form of in person education, and others are formulating their plans. But one parent whose children are teachers told us that he wants to see a bit more data before drawing his own conclusions. It is a little premature to rest your laurels on such preliminary results. It sometimes does take time for us to see the trends. And we want to act responsibly. So far, it is encouraging. This is a first today, the Governors Office announcing the two counties have actually moved backward in the states tiered reopening system. Crews and were then halfway, about 54 contained. The glass fire has been devastating to areas in napa and sonoma counties, destroying more than 600 homes and more than 340 commercial structures. I think what we need right now is a nice, cooling rain. We still have a chance of rain but the latest forecast is not looking quite as impressive. Still they are though. Lets talk about the smoke forecast first. Air quality today was better than yesterday, but still was not great. Most of us were in the moderate category. Closer to the glass fire is where the worst air quality will be over the next few days with gradual improvement for the rest of the bay area. The rest of us was a good air quality night thursday and friday. In terms of those rain chances, the numbers have stepped back once again. The only chance will be some coastal drizzle where the fog is thickest, down to a 20 rain chance on friday. The chance of showers headed our way for saturday is still looking like about a 50 50 chance, it wont amount to a lot but we dont want a lot right now because we still have those fresh burn scars across the bay area and we dont want any kind of debris flow from heavy rainfall. Experience tells me that you should probably cut these numbers and have for an accurate view of what we might receive this is data from one of the forecast models that is usually pretty good at its job, but it tends to overestimate things a little bit. So moisture for the first half of the weekend, but not in all day washout. Looking outside, plenty of fog and cooling temperatures, down to 53 in santa rosa, otherwise mostly in the low to mid 60s. The fog will spread out any far inland by tomorrow morning and then it will slowly backup. But that slow retreat means we will not warm up as fast, so substantially cooler for inland locations. We will start off in the 50s and then the the cloud will block the sunshine. Temperatures in the 50s to start the day and only making it into the mid 60s once the sun breaks through. I temperatures elsewhere, 60s around the bay, barely touching 60 along the coast and a mix of 70s and 80s further inland. The cooler weather will stick around, that part of the forecast im very confident in. Its those rain chances that will occupy our attention as we had closer to the end of the workweek in the first half of the weekend. We will keep you updated.
