This road, it will be suicide. I mean, no other word for it. And so we decided that were going to go to my mothers in the south bay for a few days tomorrow. And we have a 84yearold father living with us. Timmy is 3 1 2 and we also have two other People Living in the household so it is a six person preemptive evacuation. Many of the same communities that are affected by wildfire are also affected by power shutoffs. And in Sonoma County, they have gotten pretty good at preparing for them. Here is of the current north bay power outage map looks like, today. Here is what is expected to look like tomorrow. Into the hills for santa rosa, the people in jon mills are kenwood neighborhood have gotten used to it. Love you neighbors are hooked to generators now. I mean, we all expected, we have been through enough times, so. Reporter he was in a wooded area threatened by wildfires but even those who dont have to think about it, the spinster sisters restaurant in downtown santa rosa is lucky, it is on the same grade as the Police Station and the hospital so probably wont lose power. But owner liza him and that is no electricity for two or three days can be devastating to restaurants. Throwing away food and having to rebuy is a few is a huge financial hit . It is, not often covered by insurance, so it can be really tricky for restaurants, definitely. Reporter anything that falls below 40 degrees must be thrown out so a lot of ugenerators or know where they can get one but even if they dont, a lot of settlements have discovered a lower tech solution. National ice company in santa rosa sells dry ice, and when the Public Safety power shutoffs first began, he became pretty popular. I pg e just, like, maybe scared everybody into it, because everybody was coming in here, scared. Carol toews discovered that placing a block of dry ice in refrigerator can work as well as having a generator. I have two refrigerators, water in the one in the refrigerator beach. And keeps it cold for days. We did it before it worked quite well. It is a Lesson Learned from experience and with wildfires, a pandemic and now Power Outages under their belts, living in Sonoma County eight for sissies. The city like woodstock county is making you song stronger . We are hoping for that. We want to thank you for your understanding, as we work to keep our communities and our customers safe. Our goal is to use this as a tool of last resort and we want you to know that we are working very hard to make them taller and shorter. Now tonight we have joining us, he is our meteorologist, he will tell us about the forecast in the days ahead. Our Incident Commander is going to talk little bit about the shut off and the restoration process and we also have, she is with our local Customer Experience team and she is going to talk to us about Community Resource centers and other resources that are available for customers who are going to be impacted by this event. With us on the phone we also have several reporters, tonight come from local media outlets. Following our incident summaries, we will take up to two questions and i will remind reporters tonight please hit star one to get to the queue. With that heres where we stand at this hour, we are seeing a dangerous combination of fact there is with this forecast, high wind extremely low humidity, record dry fuels on the ground, and severe to extreme drought in certain areas. The National Weather service has issued a red flag warning from sunday morning until Tuesday Morning, and wind gusts are expected to reach 40 to 60 Miles Per Hour in some areas. And even higher at the peaks. Together these conditions do pose an increased risk for damage to our electrical system, which has the potential to ignite fires. Because of this, we are preparing to shut off power to 386,000 customers, and 38 counties, and affecting 22 tribes. Now, the shutoffs will start in stages, beginning sunday morning, at about 10 am, and some areas, and then into the evenings. And we expect the majority around three to 6 00. Now once extreme weather passes, in each region, our crews begin patrolling the lines for any damage, making any necessary repairs and then begin safely restoring power. We expect the weather all clears to most areas between 10 am and 12 pm on monday. And then power being restored in stages monday night, into tuesday, city permitted. That this event we are ready to support our customers, we have been notifying them intentionally, they was any 24 hour advance notice today. Customers can also check our online address tool to see if they are included in this event. We are also appearing to open Community Resource centers. And her partners local food banks and communitybased organizations to offer further assistance. We will sure details on all of this shortly. But for now i want to turn over to our meteorologist to talk to us about the conditions that we are starting to see. Good evening. We have high confidence that this will be the strongest diablo and fire weather event of the season so far. Essentially does going to begin tomorrow, tapering off a little bit on monday but we will have some wind blasting into tuesday, and so all the forecast models that we track, you know, all the global models, the american, the european models and all of the internal information that we have continues to indicate and we have very good alignment, and our confidence is high that this event, you know, will be significant. So we, well first, let me start with the event timing, essentially. We do expect northerly wind to develop and shasta county. During the morning tomorrow and the wind will push down to primarily along the west side, and shortly after sunset tomorrow, and it begins, it will see a very strong push of dry wind, some of those wind will be mixing down lower into the foothill locations, and some of the previous ps ps events, and we will see isabel the north bay mountains tomorrow as well. We expect the strong wind to move down into the east bay, and santa cruz mountains, near about midnight, tomorrow night and they will work their way south. The strong wind, the main event, is expected to taper off during the Morning Hours, on monday between 8 and 11 am, we will see little bit of but we expect another round of wind to come in late monday into tuesday over some of our elevated terrain and favorite canyons with wind essentially is been listening to a News Conference of pg e, basically giving us the latest information on the red flag warning that is happening throughout the bay area. So the warning residence, specifically and 38 counties, 386,000 customers to expect power shutoffs happening sometime tomorrow beginning at 10 am and the bulk of the shutoffs happening between 3 and 6 pm tomorrow afternoon. We are talking about the high winds, low humidity and extreme drought conditions, and for that lets go to our studio where brian and darren are having the latest conditions. With get a briefing from you, what is the timing on this and what is the intensity . The main difference, brian, that i want to make sure we are all aware about, this event from the other ones is you are going to feel the wind in your neighborhood from this one. You havent been the last several red flag warnings we have talked about over the last couple of weeks. s know what is new is a wind advisory for the entire bay area. I will come in for a closer look at every community that gets pulled out here, you are all going to experience gusts from 35 to 50 miles an hour, starting late afternoon, tomorrow, and going through monday morning. This will be the first time this reason we have actually done that and this has a separate set of concerns. Out of all of the fire weather in the red flag warning, and in great detail coming up but i want to make sure you dont miss this detailed. The wind is Strong Enough to break branches off trees, maybe if there is a tree that is really stress from the drought, that she could go over, and i can happen anywhere, not just up in the fire zones, that could happen in any neighborhood or community and if that does happen, it is not only the people who are under the ps ps that could lose power. We then get into situation where you getting localized Power Outages just because the wind is so strong coming through neighborhoods. That is the main point to discuss now. Heres a red flag running, it will check back in with you in a few minutes, well talk a lot more about the highest level of concern and why it is the Berkeley Hills. We discuss why that is and we show when the timeframe is for that for the fire weather. That will give you easy 24 7 access to cbsn bay area, and to newscasts. Still ahead, news, right and some of the most bay areas most asked answer cities continues to drop. The new numbers out tonight. People are living outdoors, in your neighborhoods. And that is not acceptable. The drug use, kind, things like that. A controversial plan to address the homeless crisis, but one Northern California neighborhood is saying not its rising. The pain is coming. But i cant say i expected this. Because it was easy. To fight these fires, we need funding plain and simple. For this crisis, and for the next one. Prop 15 closes tax loopholes so rich corporations pay their fair share of taxes. So firefighters like me, have what we need to do the job, and to do it right. The big corporations want to keep their tax loopholes. Its what they do. Well, i do what i do. If yould like to help, join me and vote yes on prop 15. An update now on a tanker truck in front of that prompted a shelter in place enrichment and much of the place water is still in effect right now. While hazmat crews work to pump fuel for westbound interstate 80, westbound lanes are still closed tonight the eastbound lanes are back open. The crash happened at 11 am, and according to chp a motorcycle entering westbound interstate 80 while hazmat crews work to pump fuel for westbound interstate 80, westbound lanes are still closed tonight the eastbound lanes are back open. The crash happened at 11 am, and according to chp a motorcycle entering westbound interstate 80 hilltop dr. Spun out, got stuck under a fuel tanker. The truck drove onto the shoulder and burst into flames. People to ryder in the driver are okay. People on both sides of the highway were ordered to that way but it was downgraded to a shelter in place, alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash. The bay area market is notoriously have been the most expensive in the nation but now, rent is plummeting in some of the most pricey cities in San Franciscos leading the way. According to realtor. Com the median rent for a onebedroom studio apartment in San Francisco has plunged 31 . One bedrooms in San Mateo County also down 13 from last year, the Clarke County the rent is down by 12 . With more people working from home, renters are looking for more affordable areas where they can get more space. A controversial move in sacramento to address the citys homeless crisis, city leaders are considering an emergency ordinance to allow tiny home communities, even tent cities, in several neighborhoods. These shelters could be located from South Sacramento to natomas. Shelters would be located at least 500 feet from areas like schools, day cares and parks. The potential move comes with concern. We cannot build permanent housing fast enough to address the very real dangerous, unsafe, unhealthy conditions out on our street. s we must have real interim solutions. The drug use or crime or things like that. A roof over your head and running water, electricity. That is half the battle right there. Reporter they will vote on this emergency ordinance next week. Now to the fire watch, an update on the pope fire burning in a remote area of napa county. Crews gained ground, overni on the fire burning in a grassy woodlands area east of anglin and helena. It has been 67 acres and now it is 70 contained but i would have to think that they are worried that the wind kicks up the packet also kick up come you know, fires like this. So lets talk about tomorrow. First, in detail, it will start at pretty gray and will not be windy for about the first half of the day. You can see the marine layers already starting to build back in over the city, it will be a great kind of chilly damp feel to the start of thursday. Much like today was. And you dont really notice that things are going to go downhill until we get into the late afternoon. I will show you the specific timing. Look at those numbers. Mid 60s right now. Amateurs have been doing normal things, right where they should be for this time of year and temperatures in the 70s are not the story. In fact we will warm up a little. Couple degrees of the next few days. Contrite what you think with the system coming through like this you will see that in the seven day forecast but lets get into the important information. The red flag warning starts tomorrow night at 8 00, and it goes until monday morning at 11 am, it is not only all the communities, the red flag warning really focuses on the higher gusts up in the mountains, as well, and i will show you how this will play out. This gets us to right now, little bit of an onshore flow, now watch automatically Different Things look by tomorrow in the afternoon. You see the deep colors pouring out of the north. That is the offshore wind event. By the time we got to 1 00 in the we gusting to 20 miles an hour up in the peaks. We are not feeling a yet down here where we all live. Lets advance this now to about 7 00 tomorrow. This is where we will turn the switch on. And just as the sun goes down tomorrow, it will happen real fast, we are going to notice the wind really pick up, not only in the mountains, but down here where we all live and then we are in it from about 7 00 tomorrow night, really until we get through about the Morning Hours on monday. Watch other colors kind of shrink and dissipate and that gets us to the afternoon on monday. It is not so windy anymore where we all live but it is bill going in the mountains. There was mount hamilton. There is a reason why the Berkeley Hills and the valleys up in sonoma and napa county are bigger concern. If we come in for a closer look at this, we are just looking at one time frame, little after one in the morning. 40 miles gusts, and coming from thes direction, the mountains can act like a ramp, and as the wind has to speed up to go over them, they really hurry up on the downward side. That is by the Berkeley Hills are big concern. The Oakland Hills are a concern. Any of the hills of the north bay are concerned and the way to think about this is do you live mediately west of the Mountain Range where you are like right down at the base of it . That is the area where we are also and have some of the bigger concerns, not only the Berkeley Hills and of course the other factor with this is how dry things are going to get. You can see the relative humidity just plummets, and the reason why it stays in effect so long is not because it will be continuously windy until we get into tuesday, it is because the humidity levels will stay so darn low. That will be a prolonged issue even of the burst of wind happens overnight, sunday night into monday. The dry air sticks around the crucially dry. For at least a day and a half, and that is the issue. Morning lows are not a big deal, daytime highs are not a big deal, in fact in the seven day forecast this would be such an uneventful seven day if you just looked at it and did not know the significant weather event is going to be playing out sunday night until pretty much Tuesday Morning. We will have another look at this, coming up in the next halfhour. Back over to you. Coming up in sports, not the same two teams but there is always a specific memory that comes up on the raiders face bay areas tom brady. And Jimmy Garoppolo going back to where it all started. What his team it, george kittle, remembers most about the raiders and activated for starting offensive line been replaced on the covid list earlier this week after coming in close contact with tackle trent brown with tested positive. He appears to be on schedule to host the bucks tomorrow, afternoon. The raiders will get the first look at tom brady, and a tampa bay uniform. Still a little odd. Anytime jon gruden and brady go against each other, the top or, rather, the top rule gets brought up 18 years later. At least one of them can laugh about it. Have you ever hash that out with jon gruden . Ill go to my grave thinking it was a fumble. At 11 around him a few times, not too often but it gets brought up every time that we are around one another and i can see why he has not gotten over it. It is a great part of my football history and probably a very sour part of theirs. We faces las vegas, the patriots host the 49ers, it will be the first time Jimmy Garoppolo has played in new england since they traded him to San Francisco three years ago. Hes been three seasons with the patriots, mostly as bradys backup but he did make two starts in 2016 going tozero. Unfortunately that is not George Kittles most memorable moment of garoppolos starting stints. Did you get to see those two starts he made for brady . Yeah, i mean, he went undefeated, right . Im not going to lie, the only thing i remember is him getting hurt. Because he fell on his shoulder. So i will limit those bad vibes. Seven tom brady let the patriots, so did new england connection to the south
