Now the red flag warnings will be continued for these areas through 5 00 on tuesday. The winds arent going to be as strong, but they will still be gusty. The humidity be very low to the north bay mountains, thats where we are talking about the red flag warning through tuesday evening and we have wind advisory that is in effect for the entire bay area through 11 00 tomorrow morning. Even if youre in a spot that doesnt have a high fire threat, youll still need to prepare for the potential of Power Outages as whole trees could get knocked down by those winds. Darren has a closer look at that part of the bay area. Yeah, paul, this is not going to hit the bay area equally. Itll hit some places harder than others. John ramos is in the Berkeley Hills talking about preevaccuations there for a reason. Well be showing you why the Berkeley Hills are one of the places that really need to take this seriously. Well come in for a close up look now. The week hasnt kicked in at this point, but once we get past the point it will. Watch how the numbers change in the overnight hours. The brighter the color the stronger the winds, but just look at the numbers. Berkeley hills gusting near 50 by the time we get to 1 00 in the morning. Its a lot more manageable down along 880, where so many of us live. It will be windy, but not the near constant50 miles an hour gusts in the mountains. Specifically if you live anywhere in the bay area on the west slope of the Mountain Range, thats where youll feel this the most because those winds coming from the east will go over the tops of the mountains, then get some extra push as they go down the side. Thatll be the area of concern. Not only the east bay. Ill show you what this looks like for the north bay communities. Darren and paul, thank you. Right now pg e is giving an update on the power shutoffs. Lets listen in. About 361,000 of our roughly five million electric customers. These customers are in portions of 36 counties and 17 tribal communities. As of this briefing about 225,000 customers have already been deenergized and an additional 136,000 customers are expected to be shut off throughout this evening. Now we expect safe weather to return in most areas starting tomorrow around midday. In other areas it could be Tuesday Morning when the winds subside and were able to start our controls and restoration. Now safety permitting, we aim to restore power to nearly all customers in stages monday night through tuesday night. And i want to emphasize we really want to help our customers get through this. It could be a hardship without power especially right now as were going through the coronavirus pandemic. Many people are working from home, many kids are going to school from home. So we are offering a number of resources to this shutoff for our customers. We opened up 106 Community Resource centers. We have also partnered with local food banks and Community Banks organizations to offer further assistance. This is particularly for our customers who have medical needs. Aaron will provide more details in just a moment. But for now, i want to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we work to keep our customers and communities safe. With that im going to ask scott, our meteorologist to join us. Tell us a little bit about what were seeing. Scott, im in this sort of greater sacramento valley, sort of the sierra foothills and boy, the winds will really start to kick up maybe an hour or two ago . Good evening everyone, yeah, this morning we were all waking up to the bay area around the marine layer, and really over the last couple of hours weve seen this ultra dry air mass over the states and that whole marine layer evaporated, pushing it well offshore, and like you said, we are just entering kind of this significant dangerous risk period. Tracking weather models, looking at observations to make sure this event is on track and so far all indications are this event is going to transpire as many of the Weather Forecast models have predicted, so we do have right now like you said winds are coming down the sacramento valley, kind of spreading out over the north bay area. And im looking at weather station odds right now with them gusting above 53 Miles Per Hour with humidity down to 15 and it has been interesting to watch quite the change and quite the dryness levels, kind of as the dry air mass is moving through the state. I will say we are just entering kind of the most dangerous period. We have been listening to an update with that red flag warning happening throughout the bay area, Northern California. And right now, 225,000 customers have been affected. And about 136,000 more customers will have power shut off. Now lets go to kpix joe vazquez who is live in santa rosa. Joe, certainly this is memories of the conditions that will spark the tubbs fire. Residents there are on edge right now . Reporter yeah, those are not good memories. In fact, we are talking about that wind. We are starting to feel it whip up right now on highway 12 and pythion road near an area called oak mont. This was one of the areas that was hit by the glass fire just last month. Right now folks who live in this area have had their power shut off this afternoon. And right now officials are saying the weather conditions tonight, they could make oak mont the target of the new wildfire. Hes the assistant fire marshal and tells me the strength of the wind tonight. And they will remind you about that big tubbs fire from three years ago. For them to experience similar conditions like what we have experienced in 2017, we are fully prepared for a number of potential down power lines throughout the city. With that we have a significant staffing. We have extra firefighters, Law Enforcement on hand as well as our Emergency Operation center is and will be activated throughout the night, so they could be prepared for when they arrive. Of course, the truth is nobody could predict, whether we will have a repeat of the fire. The most they could do is try to be ready. Everyone hopes they will be ready. They tell us they have this new texting communication . And theyre pretty confident that will be working tonight as well as the evacuation system that would work during the glass fire. It turns out they need to do those Mass Evacuations they will call it, prepared to do that. So far no calls for the evacuation. Big the big factor, will it make a difference theyre shutting off the power as inconvenient as that is, the fact is the down power lines that may result from these winds tonight, they may not end up sparking the fire. Thats the hope right here. Thank you, just a moment some people in the east bay, theyre getting out before its too late. Officials across contra costa and berkeley, asking residents to consider evacuating as john ramos will report, many families now, wondering what to do. And this year is everybody that is aware and theyre a little on edge. Reporter he lives at the corner on panoramic way, challenging for any fire engine even when there isnt a stream of cars trying to flee the area. Today he was warming up in case a tree should fall during the evacuation. In case of a really bad fire or if there are down trees or whatever. Youre not driving out. Reporter berkeley has a history long before the Oakland Hills area. In september of 1923 a fire destroyed more than 50 blocks of the city. The narrow streets and the hills were built in the horse and buggy day down through the neighborhood that could serve as an escape route through foot and we are trying to identify them, saying they could get them downstairs if we need to do it on foot, then how will we save these people . It was for this reason they recommended that people begin preevacuating before the dry winds had begun. This morning, some were getting things ready, but like l. C. Wright, most were staying put. Right now, our communities are injected with a lot of fear. My husband and i decided we are not going to go alone with that. We are going to hope for the best. Perez spent the morning removing old fence boards that began looking more like wildfire fuel. He and his husband, lewis, are ready to go if necessary, but they have their doubts about the preevaccuation warnings. And so i think it will take the old precautions on the fronts. And if youre telling people to get out before the fire danger at what point do you just become more noise . That wont be listen to. They are concerned in such a critical fire area, sounding an evacuation alarm before the fire is even burning may be crying wolf, at least theyre hoping that is the case. I pray thats a bad idea. I pray that it will be totally unnecessary and hysterical, i dont want it to be wow, those guys were spot on, you know, because of the danger. In the Berkeley Hills, john ramos, kpix 5. Be sure to download for the latest on the power safety shutoffs and weather conditions. You can also watch live newscasts from your phone if your power has been shut off. And still ahead on kpix 5 news a disturbing scene out of san francisco. The Investigation Underway after a body was found on fire. It kind of blows my mind actually. Just a couple of feet from where i sleep from, you know . Racing against the clock to contain that wildfire developing right now out of san francisco, a gruesome discovery in selma after police found a body who had been set on fire. San Francisco Police say the victims body was found at 4 30 sunday morning, trying to figure out how the person died. And of equal importance, why they were set on fire and by whom. Police say they initially responded to reports of the fire and later discovered a badly burned body. Neighbors say news of the death is deeply disturbing. Its sad. Its sad. And it kind of blows my mind actually that it would happen a couple of feet from where i sleep at, you know. Releasing new information about the investigation. It does not appear they would have died from some other cause where their body was set on fire. Or if it was a direct result of the fire itself. People who live nearby, they would describe that neighborhood as close knit, but admit theyve had their problems with crime and homelessness. It is really sad and it is a poverty stricken area for the most part, but at the same time, it will be a lot that will go around here too, you know. Until recently the street with the body was found, home to the sprawling homeless camp, the encampment was removed, discouraged from returning, but the placement of large planters on the sidewalk, where there were tents, tarps. Theres a lot of mental illness, a lot of people that their health is not up to par, this is all that they no and they are just geared to reach out and just some people that this is their home. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call the san Francisco Police department. In san francisco, devin fehely, kpix 5. On the fire watch we have good news this evening. Fire crews in napa county, they are making progress against the pope fire. The wildfire is holding at 61 acres near the communities of st. Helena. Containment is at 80 and still no word on the cause of this fire. And now to folks who are thinking wait a minute, where are the winds . Youre saying it is common. And around the fire, that is a concern that the winds will be gusty there and efforts of the firefighters will try to contain that, it may be frustrated with that red flag warning in effect through the entire bay area tomorrow morning. Even if youre not used to them being elevated in your specific community, it will be high everywhere as we head through the rest of the night. Lets take a look at the details. Winds are starting to gust up, 14 miles an hour sustained winds in santa rosa and fairfield. 18 miles an hour winds in napa, but the gusts are over 40 miles an hour and those gusty winds, they will travel down in elevation as we will head through the rest of the evening and the humidity be dropping as well. Down to the teens around santa rosa, napa, fairfield, and that air will make their way from north to south as we go through this evening for the overnight hours. A bunch of different things, talking about fire danger index that will let us combine all of those from zero, which is where we want to be to 10, which is where we definitely want to be. But thats where they will be by 11 00 this evening. The numbers will indicate the communities, but the colors, they show every square inch of the bay area, so you see the red shaded spots, thats where the fire danger will be around 9 00, 10 00. Well stay in that level through much of the bay area especially in the higher terrain for tomorrow morning. Itll remain elevated throughout much of the day tomorrow and even in spots where typically you dont see that greater fire threat. But tomorrow night, they will start to contract a little bit, inland parts of the bay area will have a red flag warning through 5 00 tuesday evening. But it will be more confined to the higher terrain, the spot we will associate with the higher threat. But finally the winds will die down enough, shifting the onshore direction by tuesday evening. Thats hopefully when well be out of the woods. Overall the north bay and the east bay for right now, a look at the big picture weather perspective. Were going to lend a little context to why we think this is an extreme event, and all you have to do is look at the satellite. They are way exaggerated here. Can you see that pattern right there . Look at that huge trough out here in the pacific. Followed by an equally amplified ridge of High Pressure that you will see it better when you look at the water vapor and that is really extreme to see them do that big of a wave. Out here over the pacific, it will need to come back down again, which means it is coming back down again with just as much force, meaning colorado. Theres a lot of cold air being drawn out of canada and forcefully shoved into the rockies. Now if you remember the middle of september, denver made headlines for snow. It was weird. But the next day we had an offshore wind event here. That sparked two fairly large fires in the sierranevada. The creek fire and the north complex. This scenario, it is very similar to that as that cold air will move off to the east, it pushes that air our way. And it will force it over the sierra first. The sierra, it is really going to get hit the hardest on this, but of course, the concerns here in the bay area, which we are focusing on doing our best to give you as much detail as we can. And so the main concern on this, in addition to our localized fires, which are a top priority, lets not forget a statewide issue and they should fire, yeah, initiated in the sierra. Not only a concern there, but that could then lead to more smoke concerns statewide. More on that down the road. As far as tomorrow goes, morning lows will come back down into the low 50s. Daytime highs, youre not going to notice. Theyll be right where they should be for this time of the year. And the sevenday forecast, you dont need to take note here, a warm up here or there, really the focus for tonight or tomorrow. If we get through this event with no major issues, weve got a beautiful week coming our way if we could avoid any fire starts. All right, over to you. All right, i guess you could say vegas crapped out and tom brady, they won the jackpot today. Do you think the patriots regret trading jimmy to the 49ers . Hot box and Bill Belichick made a mistake in trading jimmy to the 49ers. He saw that mistake upclose, in person today. Jimmy g back to his old stomping round. Second round pick by new england. Bill belichick was 71 all time against his former quarterback. First off the game, wilson, thats three interceptions in the game for newton. And you said 163, 49ers after the next point after. Didnt matter though. 16yard 20point 49ers lead. They picked their spot, throwing the ball down the field, and the wide open branding. And it seemed like a good time to throw that ball with that 35 yard pass play. But the bread and butter, it is the pass. Wilson will fight to get into the end zone. But he hurt his ankle in the process. Carted off. Diagnosed as a highankle sprain yet again. Patriots fans, they are not used to this sort of ineptitude. High and wide and picked off by taylor, his second interception in the game. Newton was held to just 98 yards passing. 49ers would win 336. The second largest margin in the belichick era. Were in a good spot right now. We are playing well, all three phases, playing together. Its just a mindset that well have as a group, you know, you could feel it. Felt in the locker room from the guys, felt it all week in practice. You know, its a good feeling when youre in that groove as we need to keep it going and keep stacking them. Meanwhile the raiders were suppose to be in prime time tonight, but because of covid, issues for the game against the bucs, that it was moved to the afternoon slot. You know what, they are not quite ready for prime time. Miller, one of the four linemen, sent home all week because of the exposure to trent brown. Now derek carr was glad to have him. Finds Nelson Aguilar for the touchdown. Those two have connected 70. Now his first game against the grudenled raiders team since the tuck and roll. Touchdown, makes it 1410 tampa. And then right before the half, brady will air it out for scotty miller. A step behind miller who will make that pretty snag. 33yard score 2110. Bucs now 2410, third quarter, carr to waller will make it a sevenpoint game. Waller with the touchdowns in backtoback games. Raiders within four in the fourth quarter, rolls out all the time in the world, finds chris godwin, touchdown, 3110, tampa. You know, you know where this is going. The only thing he could not do was throw that back breaking pick, oops, he did it again. Winfield led to the other bucs touchdown, scoring 213 to win. Brady throws four touchdowns in the game. Todd gurley and the falcons trailing detroit 1614 in the final minute. Atlanta already in field goal range, trying to run down the clock. Gurley wanted to go down before the end zone, couldnt stop himself. Falcons led 2216 after a two point conversion. So the lions still have a chance. Last play, Matthew Stafford to t. J. Hutchison, 11yard score with no time left. That ties the game at 22. But detroit was called for a 15 yard celebration penalty. So from 48 yards a point after. Its good. It is good. The lions win 2322. Atlanta cannot catch a break this year. Ill tell you what guys, nfc west, every team with the 49ers winning today, theyre 43. Every team in that division now has a winning record. Its go
