Reporter they say they divided the propositions to research and a zoom call would talk about how they plan to vote on each issue. They plan to make it feel more of a communal experience, this whole election season has felt some sort of alienating. No matter how people vote, democracy works when people speak up. He and his wife greeted voters, handing out stickers to those dropping off ballots. Speaking of the injustices that have gone on in this world and in order to fix everything, obviously it starts with compassion, starts with love, and starts with care. Reporter down in San Mateo County, its also a record high. But right now we have basically double the number of voters participating in this election. Reporter to keep the lines moving, San Mateo County will have 49 polling locations on election day. As for terry, she believes we all need to speak up. I know it is a rough time. But theres hope. Da, for the people who have not registered to vote yet, can they still vote . So california is one of roughly 20 states where you could register to vote for election day. Its really a special privilege here in california. And thats why Election Officials are encouraging folks if you have not registered to go do it and vote at same time. They also say its better to vote on monday than tuesday. Tuesday, they do expect to see some lines, so best to do it on monday to avoid those possible long lines. They were a part of the youth led protest called march for our future, which started at the embarcadero and at the federal building. They urged other young people to hit the polls. If the youth become louder and they take to the streets often, not just here in San Francisco, but nationwide they need to be taking to the streets. They need to be going to our city council meetings, going behind these closed doors and speaking to our politicians and elected officials because they represent us. The institute for the study of societal issues is expected to close by the end of the academic year. Its the only Campus Institute currently slated to shut down. Cal is suffering from an estimated 240 million revenue loss due to the pandemic. The institute has been around since 1976, founded to study race and societal change. It has played an integral part in supporting black and indigenous students, providing fellowships, office spaces, and community. At least 167 Doctoral Students have come through its graduate fellows program. The city of milky is threatening a lawsuit to block the states Housing Project for the homeless. The plan called project home key converts hotel rooms into housing for homeless during the pandemic. Milpitas voted unanimously to take legal action against the project saying they were sidelined and not allowed to weigh in on the location. The size or even the project to find out if it was a good fit. Its a disappointment to me that theres a conflict, but this is an opportunity for us as a community to have a very thoughtful conversation about how we address homelessness. Another major event canceled this year because of the coronavirus. San franciscos annual Chinese New Year parade. This is video from last years parade. It honored the chinese culture, community, and heritage with vibrant floats, dragon dancers, marching units. The event draws hundreds of thousands of people usually, but organizers say they will have a special live streamed parade instead. Many Ethnic Armenians live there and have claimed it as their own art sock republic, which has drawn the ire of azerbaijan. The weapons are rockets and bombs, but today in dueling protest rallies in the bay area, it became a war of words. The azerbaijan marched in San Francisco to gain exposure and protest what they feel is one sided information. The media is covering their protests, everything, but when were going out, its hard for us to get any coverage. Reporter they say since 1991 Ethnic Armenians have been forcing them from the region. And what we want is Armenian Army to occupy the army to vacate the lands, so the people who used to live there could come back to their homes. Reporter but gathering in san mateo, they say the area has been their homeland for hundreds of years and declaring it an independent state is an act of selfrule equivalent to our american revolution. This is a war that very much reflects the ideals of america, and the armenian People Living there reflect the ideals of the american People Living here. Each side says their civilians are being killed and each denies being the aggressor. If there is a reaction and violence, i mean you cant expect them to sit back and take the violence. When the conflict reignited in september it ended a cease fire that lasted more than 20 years. Left a man dead downtown san jose. Police responded to north 13th street early this morning where they found a man shot near the park. His identity has not been released. Now police say this is the citys 37th homicide of the year. Tonight Redwood Police are investigating a shooting at a halloween house party. Officers say when they arrived to the area of european drive just after 1 00 in the morning, several vehicles were seen leaving the area. Thats when gunfire rang out between more than one shooter. The 23 yield woman was shot and was treated and released. So far no arrests have been made. Santa cruz police had a busy night. Officers made nine arrests. Police also gave out seven triple fine infraction citations. They say there was close to 4,000 people out last night in the downtown area, which is actually significantly lower than past halloweens.
