Im annmarie green. We are going to start this morning with the coronavirus pandemic. For the Third Straight day, the u. S. Has broken its daily record for new covid cases. There were more than 153,000 cases recorded just yesterday. Thats according to Johns Hopkins university. All 50 states are now seeing upticks in new daily cases. The u. S. Also broke another record with more than 67,000 hospitalizations. And california has become the second state to surpass 1 million total cases. Texas hit that mark earlier this week. In americas Third Largest city of chicago, mayor Lori Lightfoot has issued a new stayathome advisory. People are asked to stay home for the next 30 days. That includes the thanksgiving holiday. And while this is tough, of course this whole year has been tough, we must tell you, you must cancel the normal thanksgiving plans. That stayathome advisory begins monday. And despite the surge in pandemic, tens of millions of people are still expected to travel this upcoming thanksgiving holiday. Aaa says it expects less than 50 million americans to travel to their holiday destination this year. That is down at least 10 from last year, while the vast majority are expected to drive, cbs news has learned that the tsa anticipates that it will screen more than 6 Million People during the thanksgiving holiday. All right. So, breaking overnight, on to politics, president elect joe biden has padded his lead in the electoral vote count over President Trump. Cbs news can now project that mr. Biden has won the state of arizona and its 11 electoral votes. It is the first time a democrat has won that state since 1996. But that doesnt mean President Trump is conceding the election. He tweeted overnight that biden lost by a lot and of course twitter flagged that by saying official sources called this election differently. A group of federal and state Election Officials say the 2020 election was the most secure in american history. There is no evidence that any Voting System deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised. Right now there is a swath of voters in the state and around the country that will say, those machines cheated. Those machines miss counted. Somebody hacked them. Reporter in georgia where president elect joe biden leads President Trump by about 14,000 votes, Officials Say a manual audit will prove the system worked. The point of the audit is to show the machines counted the ballots fairly. Republican officials who clearly know better in an interview with 60 minutes slated to air this weekend, former president barack obama said hes troubled by republicans humoring President Trumps claims of fraud. Here on capitol hill some republicans are beginning to stray from President Trumps fight. A few Party Leaders are refusing to acknowledge the biden victory. The former president spoke with scott pelley ahead of the release of his upcoming book a promised land. Mr. Obama said President Trumps claims of Election Fraud may be undermining our democracy and called some republicans complicit. They appear to be motivated, in part, because the president doesnt like to lose and never admits loss. Im more troubled by the fact that other republican officials who clearly know better are going along with this, are humoring him in this fashion. You can see more of mr. President trumps former Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski is now the latest member of the president s inner circle to come down with the coronavirus. The adviser to the president says that he is feeling fine and selfisolating at home, and he said he thinks he caught it while campaigning for the president in philadelphia. Lewandowski also attended an Election Night party, though, at the white house last week. Several people are still missing after deadly flooding in north carolina. Crews in alexander county, north carolina, rushed to rescue people after flood water from a nearby river inundated a camp ground. At least three were killed there and another person died in a car accident. At least 10 inches of rain from Tropical Storm eta also triggered mudslides and washed out bridges. In charlotte, more than 140 people had to be rescued from an elementary school. And we are waiting to learn the identities of five American Service members killed in a Helicopter Crash in egypt. The chopper went down yesterday in the sinai peninsula. The five americans killed were on a Peace Keeping mission. Two members of the french and czech militaries also died in that crash. The cause appears to be mechanical failure. You can see one american survivor being airlifted to a hospital in israel. Officials say the chopper was on a routine mission at the time. We are learning more about one of the suspects in the shooting of ahmad auberry, a black man in georgia who was apparently jogging when he was killed. Travis mcmichael and his father gregory will be back in court via video today for a second day of a bond hearing. Yesterday prosecutors shared Text Messages that they claim showed Travis Mcmichael used racial slurs in the past. Auberry was killed during a confrontation with the mcmichaels in february caught on video. Prosecutors claim race played a factor in the killing. Defense attorneys deny that.
