Residents received a letterheadlined notice of potential closure of mobile home park. In it the owners are exploring the option of converting the park. Richard leonard has lived in this unit for 33 years. He now shares it with his half brother. But neither has any idea how it could ever be moved. They said they were going to take it 50 miles away. We didnt know where they were going to take it. It would make it down the road without falling apart. Reporter theyre called mobile homes, but they could not be relocated, even if they would have that money to do it and a place to take them. Living in her home with her husband and three kids for 11 years. If they say theyre closing the park, where do you take this . Nowhere. I dont have another place to take my house and put it there. I dont have that place. Many people, they dont have another place to go with their houses. Reporter in the letter, the park owners blame the cost of maintaining the aging infrastructure, but they also add another possible reason, the park owners conclude they could no longer economically operate the park based on measures taken by the state and local government. That is a reference to recent laws and regulations, establishing rent controls and eviction protections, specifically for mobile homeowners. Most units here are currently covered by rent control and some believe the threatened closure is meant to scare people into voluntarily agreeing to pay more. Oh, you have to sign this. But if you read between the lines, it says oh, by signing this, youre giving up your rights to rent control. Ill keep fighting it. Ill keep going to the city hall, and i will still fight this until the end. I get very tired of them coming after us. I just want to live in peace. I never bounced a check. My money is good. I dont disturb anybody and i dont bother anybody. If they keep bothering us. Reporter there is no timeline. In fact the letter said it was not a formal notice of closure. The owners are just thinking about it, giving the residents something to think about as well. We were unable to contact the parks owners today, but a meeting is scheduled next month at city hall. As we look live, voters in california once again will consider repealing a law that limits the power cities have over rent control. An initiative to repeal the rental housing act. Got enough signatures to be eligible for the november 2024 ballot. Remember this is to repeal that act, which will exempt apartments and singlefamily homes built in 1995 from rent control. It also allows owners to say how much they will charge for rent. This is now the third time that the rent control initiative ended up on the ballot since 2018 and each time its been voted down. In other news, three residents are displayed after a triplex broke out this afternoon. Firefighters were able to knock it down in just about 30 minutes. Crews say the fire was burning in the attic of the building. One person was injured, but expected to be okay. The next door neighbor saw the flames from the window of his home. The flames would come to the window and we would see all the booms and the windows were popping out and stuff. So i would get my water hose and started spraying it through the flames. About five minutes later, the Fire Department would show up. The firefighters recommend keeping bedroom doors closed. While sleeping, tay say it could make a difference between life or death. Flames also broke out at a home this morning. Nobody was inside at the time. The fire started in the attic, but it was difficult to contain due to hoarding conditions inside the home. The neighbors who live near the Union Pacific track say they are fed up with encampment trash, ongoing crime, and vehicle fires. Families that live near the tracks, located between 37th avenue and high street. The tracks run parallel to waddling streets. They stole cars behind their homes and set them on fire. Neighbors tell da lin theyre fed up and they want the city to do something about it. I know this is television, not smellivion. Well get to the smell in just a bit. It happens on a daily basis. Thieves would drive the stolen cars to the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks behind their homes and strip them for parts. The video was taken on july 19. People would remove the tires. Sometimes they would set the cars on fire after theyre done. The cars are burning, everything, they would blow it and it comes towards us. Reporter her son parks the car inside the gates. Ive lived here for 25 years and it was never this bad. Reporter a lot of dwellers and the Homeless People would live near the tracks. Neighbors are not sure if they are the same people stripping the cars, but they blame them from pouring them down the storm drains. This area constantly smells like raw sewage. We cannot open our windows because its unbearable. Reporter in the last two years, they have gone nowhere. Our cries, its the cry. We are wanting to help. The anger and like a lot of frustration and just feeling betrayed. Feeling like we live in this city and we pay our city, we choose to be here. In the end, were completely abandoned. Reporter the city recently removed the stolen cars. But those who represent this neighborhood, they say they just come right back. We cleared this a week ago. You can see the challenge of them. Reporter he too is frustrated as he wants them to do more. The bottom line is about enforcement, citing people, you should do the crime as well. All to prevent vehicle traffic. You complain and complain and complain and nobody does anything. Reporter instead of constantly cleaning up after the thieves, tay say they should set up the operations to catch them because this area is being used as a chop shop. We went to another spot last month. This is not far from the border. The area was cleaned up after we first reported on the r cars. It was a remarkable improvement from what was there before. Its not over. We need to keep them up. Its a big change. Its beautiful to be able to look up my window and not see all that traction. They deserve to be better. Earlier this year, they launched a new unit thats tasked with removing the abandoned vehicle. The businesses in fremont have been evacuated after they found a possible explosive device. This is on industrial place. It is just east of 880 near the south storage facility. Fremont police tell us this is an active scen to t a man is under arrest. It will be a wildfire has crossed into canada and now forced thousands of people on both sides of the border. This is in british columbia. Burning at least 12,000 acres. There are more than 1,000 active fires burning in canada. Here in the u. S. , 60 Million People are under the heat alert above 110 degrees above the entire month of july. The scientists have studied the tree rings and say july is the likely hottest in the past 120,000 years. Time for a special series project earth, the path forward. Change is taking place where the scientists and the researchers, adapting for the warming planet. All including yours. Reporter the garden is an oasis on the hot day with flowers, buzzing with bees. And the game plan . Learn what the plant will need and then continue to learn. Do the best that you can. Its difficult lessons that were brought on by Climate Change and higher temperatures, more frequent heat waves and the intense storms, the prolonged drought. So we have entered the unprecedented times, when the weather has become much more extreme. Its the uc davis arboretum. She was one of the many that care for the Living Landscapes here. Instead of fretting over the global warming, the Uc Davis Team is boldly taking on the challenge. We want to make big steps towards impacting our future to show whats happening with Climate Change. Reporter the university has adopted a plan to transition its current landscapes into a climate ready campus. Experts here know by the end of the century, the Sacramento Valley is projected to have a climate more akinned to barstow. About 32 of our trees wont survive those conditions, so we have to start now. Reporter trees often take the longest to grow. Once established, they provide shade as well as habitat. The canopy of trees on the davis campus will cool the walk ways and roads and provides respite for all living creatures. It also includes one of the universitys crown jewels. A historic oak grove. One of the largest and the most diverse in the country. You can hear the birds in the background. You can see the animals interacting with the trees. So for me, it was my own kind of nature. Reporter and to sustain the thriving canopy, the team is working on ways to conserve these valuable heritage trees. It is a little uneven. Are you okay with that . Reporter theyre seeking to replace the campus trees that are bound to fail with climate ready ones. These trees were mostly collected from southwest texas. Reporter on this stretch of land, the university is testing different varieties, from the Mountain Range in texas. Once the roots will get established, no more irrigation. The conditions are harsh. This is really rough, nasty soil. Reporter as the team will wait to see which trees do best. Rachel has this advice for the rest of us. Please dont wait. We really want to emphasize drought tolerant gardening. Reporter the staff has tested many plants at the arboretum and the remote locations throughout the state, where they came up with a list of 100 all stars. Attractive plants that will thrive in a warmer climate and attract the pollinators. The gray colored thieves are a plus. This will help reflect the heat from the sun. Reporter as for norie, shes a volunteer at the arboretum, cultivating many new lessons, updating the garden, one plant at a time. I have things that will bloom in the winter, and they are wonderful. To see and download the full uc davis list of the all stars that will drive in warmer climates and attract pollinators, visit the project earth section on kpix. Com. We live in a warm climate. Well see a little cool down and warm up again. And i havent had to cram three digits into a sevenday forecast now in a while. Its okay with us in a while and everybody else is coming back, but just for a limited part of the bay and hopefully not too long and ill show you the place that will need to get the benefit of both. And the cool down was just talking about it. Its what youll need to get first. For most of the sevenday forecast, in fact. And lets take it all in on top of the mount camera and over. And that is one of the best places in the bay to pick out the extreme swings that were about to go through. Concord, thats your sevenday forecast. When we would look through here in the mid80s, youll be below it for a good stretch of time. Then the warmups will start. So i think that the sevenday forecast that we should probably spotlight two days. If you look at the contrast here from the bottom on thursday at 81, until we will get to sunday. There is not really a whole lot of time here, where we will go through a 20degree warmup that were going from 81 to 101 from thursday through sunday and the two days, that they will probably tell the story best. Definitely for the inland valleys, that it will not be extreme and that they will get that sevenday forecast here. What will be for this time of the year any way and that we just talked about concord, and the average will be 88. Its average, hayward, 75 is average and oakland, 71 will be average if we switch and take a look at how we did for today, we will do the comparisons first. Were a little above average for todays daytime highs. Concord well into the mid90s. San jose, hayward, oakland, not really far off the mark. If you pull those numbers out now, just to see what it was now and made it up to 89 in concord and hayward went to 77. Oakland was a pretty comfortable 75. Its going to get cool and all those numbers are coming back down, just a couple degrees below the average mark here in just a couple of days and the live look from the top of the salesforce cameras, no marine layers there and not much in the way of the fog and that it will come in that morning and it does not last long and tomorrow will be just like this. No change for monday. Those numbers for mondays daytime highs are almost an instant replay of sunday and saturday that we have not really changed much either for these two days. So when we look at that seven day, youll see the difference here. Not as extreme as the first example. But oakland, the same story, thursday, you bottom out in the upper 60s. Then you make it up to 80. Now lets do this for the north bay and the south bay valleys. Youll go to the mid80s on thursday and then youre 3 degrees shy of 100 on sunday. 3 degrees shy of 90. Then the top line that weve seen, contrasted with the beaches is where you wont change much for the low 60s. More on this in the next half hour, matt, over to you. Ahead in sports, giants provided plenty of free baseball in sunday, where they would look to gain ground in the west. And plus they did not practice on sunday. But the latest on the intrtroducing totogos new frech h dip sandwiwiches. Trtry the roasast beef or r pasi frenench dips totoday. Only at t togos. Oppenheimer and barbie were not the only things being watched this weekend. Talking about a good show. Savannah banana is in the house in the Series Finale against boston. The giants offense has been struggling, but not wilmer flores. Drives in Casey Schmidt to make it 20. Flores is on fire. Giving the sox the lead today, the tworun home run as they hate this guy and just the truth. The bottom of the inning, the rookie will drive one to the left center and just out of the reach of duran. Michael conforto goes to tie the game as we go to extras. Tristan beck was called u up, struck out, and ends the inning with the runners at second and third. The bottom of the 11th, joc pedersen, bases loaded. Singles to right. And Patrick Bailey scores with their second straight walkoff win, 43 the final, as the giants will take two out of three in that series. The as at the rockies. Thats the crime. All right, the top of the order. Oakland scored 19 runs in the first two games. Today theyre going against them. Pitching five shutout innings. The longest of the inning. The two out rbi double off of luis medina. Oakland at the dodgers on tuesday. The niners are back in on action on monday. But on monday, they may or may not be drilled up. But the first time in camp, brock purdy will be leading the first team offense. Working out on the side today. A part of the plan to give him two consecutive days off from throwing at the start of camp. He did let it rip earlier this week, but hes happy with where purdy is progressing. I think hes done great with no trouble. Hes been totally happy, getting all the timing back, and his rhythm. I was impressed with his two practices. Flavor town or sonoma. Guy fury in house. Adding to the lead in the top. Ashley with 328 miles per hour. Beating brown in the final four. His first win at sonoma. J. R. Todd driving in the yellow got down the line at 322. He beats chad green. Everyone is fired up. Todds first win since 2021. To golf, lee hodges looking for his first career win in minnesota at the 3m open. A Comfortable Lead at 18. This is how you cap off your first tour win. Spinning it back less than two feet from the cup. Hes pumped. His hometown club, watching in alabama. They go crazy for him. He finishes 24 under and wins by seven shots. Final round of the evian championship over in france. Rose zheng birdies 18 tied for 9th. Since turning pro, she has finished top ten in four out of her five tournaments. Francis looking to make history. Way different weather as you saw some here. Here is whales. 26 players shot 80 or above on a wet and windy day. Outlasting the conditions. And Patrick Harrington on the second hole of his playoffs to win his second major hit. Very different from San Francisco today. Theyre playing on a much nicer golf course, but i will stick here. For those giants fans, we are glad we dont need to see Justin Turner here 50 times. He loves that ballpark. I dont know why they dont sign him. Yeah, i dont know why either.
