A federal grand jury has issued an indictment of former President Donald Trump related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 president ial election. Special counsel jack smith has charged trump with four counts of conspiracy to defraud the united states, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of or an attempt to obstruct a proceeding and a conspiracy against rights. My office will seek a speedy trial so that no evidence can be tested in court and judged by citizens. Reporter he contends that trump knowingly spread lies and mistrust about the outcome of the election. The indictment also states that trump and six coconspirators attempted to get mike pence to reject the electoral results as they were counted on january 6th, leading to the storming of the capital. In march the new york grand jury accused trump of more than 30 counts related to business fraud and in june charges were filed against the former president accusing him of holding classified documents. Trump could also soon face charges in the state of georgia. A grand jury there is looking at attempts to replace state electors with people loyal to him. The other big story, flames just like these destroyed a building under construction in the hayes valley neighborhood. That heat getting so intense that it melted streets and damaged buildings across the street. This is what the raging inferno sounded like. Take a listen. The fire broke out at 6 00 this morning at the intersection of octavia and oak streets. At one point as flames raced to the structure, parts of the construction site just gave way. When i pulled up i thought we would see a full block go down. You can hear the popping of the building as the structure was failing. Firefighters say that without doors and insulation there was nothing to stop the flames. This evening, a new twist to the story. Residents say that while the cause of the fire remains under investigation, some say this is because of the deteriorating conditions of the neighborhood. The flames that destroyed a building have left residents like jennifer shocked. Look at what happened today. Now we have at least eight neighbors this place. The heat got so hot that all of the windows are cracked, so we do not know how long these neighbors will be impacted. Reporter she is the president of the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association and has lived here since 2017. She says that although the cause of the fire remains a mystery, as investigators work to determine what started the blaze, it is not the first time that fires have happened here. A couple of incidents that happened in the area behind me here. There was a car that was lit on fire and a tent in the median that had been lit on fire and cyclists who were passing by pulled somebody out of the tent. There was a fire that was at the site itself on april 24th. She explained in this letter that she sent to the mayor and other city leaders back in may. We sent this to other leaders in the city and basically got no response, so we outlined our concerns that something more major could happen. We do not know if this fire is the result of, you know, a homeless encampment, but what we do know is that we have had a string of fires up and down here that have caused grave concern for neighbors, and rightfully so. Reporter she believes that things have reached a critical point and the neighborhood needs attention from city officials. We are really trying hard to keep everyone safe and trying hard to make hayes valley a fun place that people want to come to, than this. Why wont our city officials do something about this . If they dont have resources, then they need to call in resources from the city, state or National Guard to triage these issues. Reporter the city says they understand that residents in the area are frustrated and that the mayor is committed to keeping the streets safe and clean. The first one started on july 19th, where residents actually used a garden hose to put it out while waiting for the Fire Department. The second fire was less than a week later and people at the scene told investigators they smelled gasoline. Berkeley police are now investigating the fires as possible arson. Robbery charges have been filed against five people accused of robbing a sanna marin jewelry store. Police said one of the suspects may have received Sensitive Information in the case known only to police. According to court documents, police only spoke with a person who was relying on information from an insider. Prosecutors say that suspect is on the run. The charges stem from an Armed Robbery and prosecutors say that they stole around 1. 1 million worth of jewelry, including a rolex with a gps tracking device.
