Seen Many Companies and Venture Capital firms move away from downtown and establish themselves in the presidio. It is not just the types of companies here but also the type of space that is available. Reporter Diana Simmons says interest really picked up as companies shifted the way they did business. We have had so much interest in our smaller spaces that we have had to start a waiting list. Reporter simmons says there are more than 200 businesses in the presidio. 95 of the commercial portfolio is leased, so there is a 5 vacancy rate. Just a few miles away, the Office Vacancy rate stands at 31 . With open spaces, park spaces, places to do work and Team Building outdoors, ample parking, we hear from our tenants that that is something that they are looking for and feel is a benefit to employees and bringing them back to work. Reporter at the restaurant sessions at the presidio, one. 0 says that this is one thing he does not take for granted. The restaurant has been around for seven years. Bueno says that the increased interest means more foot traffic for his restaurant. We see a lot of influx in traffic to our office. It is a quiet place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the other parts of the city. I think that it is a nice setting. So as companies try to get employees to come back to work, these buildings have everything that you need to attract your employees to the office space. Reporter well that might be the case, cooper does not believe that the presidio will replace downtown. It will come back and thrive. This is just different. It is unique and extraordinary and there is nothing else like it. I like to say that this is the future of business. There is not enough space here and there is enough space downtown. The future will be downtown San Francisco, and hopefully very soon. Reporter but in the meantime he is eager to see how the business landscape in the presidio will continue to change. Get ready to slow down. The board has just voted to lower speeds to 25 to 20 Miles Per Hour in some parts of the city. The changes affect nearly two dozen streets in fishermans wharf, north beach, chinatown and union square. A spokesperson says drivers typically drive 20 Miles Per Hour on the streets already. Taking alive look at the bay bridge toll plaza, two new programs will soon help drivers with outstanding toll fees and violations. Fasttrack will offer a payment plan and a waiver for penalties. The payment plan helps low income drivers get caught up with outstanding toll violations on any bay area ridge or express lane. The other program is a onetime waiver of penalties that anyone can qualify for this one. We expect a huge influx and we encourage everybody in the bay area and beyond to just find out if they have any outstanding tolls that they might have missed or any penalties that might have accumulated. Reporter drivers can apply for the payment plan online at bay area toll payment plan. Org. Drivers can apply for the waivers by calling fasttrack or going to their website. Sonoma county officials are asking for public patients over longstanding issues with benefit payments fraud. Customers have experienced long waits for getting a hold of Human Resources personnel. Human services say that they are actively hiring 30 new staff members. A san jose nonprofit is helping children get ready to go back to school. Sacred Heart Community service held their annual giveaway today. Hundreds of backpacks were hung on a wall for kids to choose their favorite one. There were also school supplies, tables designated for each grade. Sacred heart says this provides 4000 backpacks to students and they are giving away more on thursday. A dispute is developing in hollywood oversight after his decision to allow certain movies and Tv Productions to continue during the strike. There are certain movies being made right now. Movie stars are making movies because they are independent and sag after is allowing it. When they joined the strike, it is movie stars on making movies for you now, now are you going to do . Well, they are making movies. Sag aftra says that it will only make productions that meet the goal for new contract. They said their goal is to prove the demands can be met. Scathing new allegations against the singer lizzo. Her former tour dancers claim that they were subjected to Sexual Harassment and a hostile work environment, including being asked to touch nude dancers. They accused the singer, who supports body positivity, of shaming them. Lizzo has not responded to these allegations. Up next, a Blue Triangle has become a universal cycle for recycling. Salolonpas, itss good medidi. Rain finally giving some relief to firefighters battling new york fire in southern california. Officials say these monsoons are rare and can cause a lot of trouble, because in addition to rain, they can bring strong winds that push the fire forward. The fire has grown to more than 125 square miles. It is only 23 contained and the location is causing problems for firefighters. This is delegate land. It has a lot of cultural and environmental, unique ecosystems in these types of things, so we are being light with our tactics. Reporter one of the main issues are the desert tortoises who live on the preserve. It is universally recognized as the symbol for recycling but the government says that it is now universally confusing time to play recycling bingo this one has a number four on it. This one has a number five on it. True or false. If something has recycling arrows on it, it is easily recyclable the epa says plastic pollution is bad because it will not fully biodegrade in the environment and it is now focused on the problem of recycling plastics, calling this symbol deceptive or misleading. The problem, they say, is that people think it means that any plastic can be easily recycled and that is just not true. You think it is time to get rid of the recycling symbol . I do. Reporter kate oneill studies the global and local politics of waste and recycling. The irony of me being a waste expert as i am always the one who is taking stuff out of recycling and putting it in the trash reporter so what is wrong with the symbol . She says take a look at the numbers inside arrows that go from one to seven. This was never assembled to consumers to say this is all recyclable with one and two being highly recyclable. These are the hard plastics you often find with containers, bottles and those sorts of things. Reporter recycling of numbers three through seven is not profitable and hardly happens, so the epa recently wrote a letter urging the u. S. To scrap the symbol and move those numbers inside of a less identifiable triangle. Okay, but if that happens, how will we actually know what can be recycled . California has an idea. It recently passed a law saying that chasing arrows can appear on plastic packaging, but only if the maker of the packaging has proven that it can be recycled. But here is another idea. How about if we just use less plastic . Everybody of every persuasion is like no, it is getting into the ocean. This is no good. Reporter the upside of using recycled plastic as we can save 70 of the energy that it takes to make new plastic, but the recycling symbol is confusing, and that is what the epa wants to change. Com so we went from no sky july 2 fogust you and i were debating whether we would go on a run after work today i think i will just go and have some pizza or something. That is a Good Alternative you work out by lifting. The rest of the country is looking for relief from the heat and the rest of the city is looking for comfort food. This is what we are mostly going to see tomorrow and thursday. Here is what you need to know as we get closer to the end of the workweek. Most of the cloudy skies spread out across the bay area tonight with patches of drizzle accumulating just a trace of moisture here and there. Sunshine breaks through for him in parts of the bay area , but mostly gray skies around the bay and around the coast. Cool weather sticks around through thursday with a big warm up by the weekend with temperatures running well above average for him in parts of the bay area for saturday and sunday. Take a look at the temperature roller coaster ride that conquered is in for. Temperatures are 20 degrees hotter than that by saturday and sunday. Out of all the inland heat waves we have seen, this one will be brief. Temperatures are then back down to near or slightly below average tuesday through friday of next week. Whenever temperatures build, we keep an eye on air quality. We also have to keep an eye on air from southwestern oregon drifting down the coast. We are not talking about concentrated levels of smoke, but just a little bit of haze, potentially enough to send air quality into the moderate category. As the heat builds, i think we are moderate across the board as the heat traps groundlevel ozone as we head into the weekend. And there is all the fog as we look out from the mark hopkins hotel. Temperatures were anywhere from 58 in pacifica to just 85 for the warmest location in concord. Just barely above 60 degrees in San Francisco for the first day of august. The fog is going to be widespread to start the day tomorrow. Allow little bit of extra time to navigate through that tomorrow morning. You will probably have to fiddle with the windshield wipers to find the right setting on the intermittent side of that, because there will be a patchy drizzle here and there. The fog is still stubborn along the coast with some clearing as we head towards midday, but it is really not until the afternoon that we see more brakes in the cloud cover. Along the coast the clouds will be stubborn not just tomorrow, but likely thursday and friday. Temperatures drop down into the 50s everywhere. A good seven or eight degrees below average further inland. Lets zoom in for a closer look. Right around 60 on the coast and a mixture of 60s and 70s down the peninsula. This is a matt moore typical of early may than early august. Temperatures in the Santa Clara Valley girl getting up to 78 degrees. A lot of 70s in the trivalley with the warmest spots in the delta only hitting the low 80s. Again, be ready for heat this weekend. The same spots that are at 82 and 83 tomorrow will be closer to 105 by the time sunday rolls around. Mostly 70s for the north bay. Sonoma is one of the warmest spots with santa rosa at 80 degrees. Mendocino and lake county are getting up to around 90 degrees. Temperatures will warm up around the bay, just not nearly as much. Around 80 for oakland and then backing down to near average temperatures next week. In the temperatures will be substantially warmer with san jose escaping the worst of it. Most of the north bay will be well into the 90s and the trivalley and delta, get ready to sweat for a couple of days. Over 100 on sunday with lots of folks flocking to the coast to enjoy temperatures in the mid 60s. Time for a check of what is ahead at 6 00 as we switch over to Juliette Goodrich. Ryan, thank you. Coming up at 6 00, the family of tech executive probably hoping for justice. We are hearing more from the exwife of the cash up founder for more on her reaction of what she thinks mightve happened between nima momeni and her husband and how she is rebutting claims from the defense. Plus, a 75yearold woman opens fire on home intruders in oakland and they fire back. It is one of the recent crimes that has neighbors on edge. How they are standing together to find solutions on this National Night out. The news at 6 00 is coming up in 10 minutes, so we now go to vern and sports. Thanks, jules we have baseball up top with the giants. It is not just game day with the diamondbacks, but the eagerly anticipated league trade deadline so lets take a look at all the giants activity oh, the sounds of the giants front office. There was one new face at the yard this afternoon, aj pollock joining the club after being acquired in a trade with seattle yesterday. The veteran outfielder will be in the lineup tonight, but what about something bigger . If the goal is to do something, we could have traded half our farm system for this starter. Somebody would happily agree to that deal, but we will not do something if there is nothing that makes sense. I think the biggest signal it sends to the clubhouse as we believe in you. We believe this is a good group that is capable of making a deep postseason run. The astros said welcome back in a trade with the mets. Verlander won two world series with houston. There is one player on the roster of the 49ers who had no issue with the outcome of brock purdy getting hurt i cant really say what happened last year. I dont really need to say nothing about the game. Hargrave was on the winning side. He spent the last three seasons in philly before signing with the 49ers and free agency. Hargrave gives San Francisco another pro bowler on the defensive line andone less pass rusher for purdy to worry about this season. It is a different feeling now with him being my teammate, so i cannot really hit him. Things are a little bit different nowadays. Now, he has won a heisman, a national championship. Bryce young is the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers and the first overall pick in the draft never forgot where he came from. Like his College Freshman job as a door Dash Delivery guy. He needed the extra cash then. Honestly i would have a mask on and a hoodie and i would only really except the orders at my door, so for the most part i never really got recognized. I just, you know, i will have a little bit of extra money. All right, liz and ryan, asking questions is what i do what was your most memorable college job . I would follow around the anglers with this little tiny camcorder for espn. I would get shot at by some of the people who lived along the stretch and did not want us there, so that was probably the most memorable experience best job, dj for the Golden State Warriors most interesting job . I used to sell vacuums. Okay all right i was a sales trainee for Reynolds Aluminum Company i remember the time i almost crashed a car there was a client that was there and i just backed into him did you get the sale, though . Did you keep the job . No. All right. Thanks, vern. Ststill ahea postmenopapausal womenen wiwith hr herer2 metastaticic breast cacancer arare living l longer withth ki. Soso, long livive family t t. Being used in different industries, including music and art. Now it is transforming the business of beauty. Anna warner tested it out. Reporter customers seeking manicures have been going to nail salons for centuries, but in San Francisco you can now have a robot do it. It is the brainchild of startup clockwork. We want this to be like grabbing a cup of coffee. It could be anywhere from apartment complexes to corporate offices, retail stores. Reporter clockworks goal is to place these machines where people live and work, making a manicures super convenient and quick. We watched as the robot painted my nails with a perfect blue coat with just a minor hiccup requiring a redo of my thumb. A. I. Is what allows robots to paint each nail accurately. What do you think . I love them. I see myself coming back here often. Reporter nimble beauty has sold more than 5000 devices on kick starter. My express manicure was not quite as precise as the clockwork manicure, but the makers as the machine learns over time using a. I. To see what Artificial Intelligence in the beauty space can really do, take a look at this. You are watching robot arms add eyelash extensions. It is a process that typically takes a human over two hours of precise, painstaking labor. This is why loom cofounder nate harding decided that it was a great job for a robot. It is so laborious and right on the edge
