Discuss changes in response to alarm calls. Amanda . Plus, one man living in the tenderloin wants people to really see what goes on in his community on a the daily basis. This is just normal. You see this stuff all the time. I dont think about the factis not right sometimes. Its crazy. We take you inside his life in the San Francisco community. And its a lot cloudier and cooler as we head into the daytime highs today. All throughout the bay area. That will be the trend for us this week and ill have more on why thats happening coming up. Well, things are starting to get just a little bit busy on some of the bay area bridges. That includes the san mateo bridge as well as the bay bridge. Well have a look at that coming right up. Jocelyn . And gianna, maybe were feeling lucky this morning. Maybe you at home are feeling lucky. Well, the Mega Millions jackpot is the largest in the games history. This morning, were at a location thats considered to be lucky. Well tell you what that means coming up. A lot to get to today. But first, lets stake a live look outside and look at that beautiful sunrise looking over the bay. Right here in San Francisco. That sun is trying to make its shine this morning. But were going to be actually seeing a little bit of rain right . Depends on where you live. Really just along the coast where were seeing more dense clouds this morning and ill show you a live look in a second to kind of give you that picture. But for many of us, yeah, i mean its going to be a dry day off into the inland east bay and the santa clara valley. But no matter where you live, it will be cooler as low pressure moves its way in from the north. This is cool dense air from the north. That will allow for an onshore flow and were going to see windier conditions along our coast and the dense clouds kind of just hanging around. Daytime highs today compared to yesterday, oh my gosh. So different. Yesterday we were talking about triple digits off near brentwood and antioch and today were actually below average throughout most of the bay area as the system moves in from the north. Heres the live look i just mentioned. Just along the coastline this is San Francisco looking south into the fence la and thats the coast off in the distance. Theyre going to be dealing with the clouds and a little bit of drizzle all morning long with daytime highs today actually below average there too. 61 along the coast and 60s near the bray and only topping off today in the low 80s. In our inland areas. Nice and cool all throughout the bay area as we head into tuesday forecast. Heres that drizzle and heres whats going on throughout the next couple of hours and even into the next couple of days. Less than. 01 in santa rosa and halfmoon bay. A quarter inch into the evening hours tonight. We have something actually coming in if the south and its the leftovers from Tropical Storm eugene. As it slowly makes its way into Southern California by thursday. Heading into friday. Thats going to wring out just a little bit more energy back into the coastline. More clouds before we head into this weekend. More on that coming up in a bit but for now over to you, gianna. Lets take a look at the roadways if you are getting up early. You are in luck for the most part. Its actually a little quiet on some of the bay area bridges. Even though those metering lights are on at the bay bridge, that backup not too bad. In fact, just a little slow as you approach the toll plaza and near the metering lights up the incline. And it will get a little crowded across the upper deck and you can see a good look here and one of the caltrans shots getting a little busy near the tunnel there but thats it. Overall its a pretty easy ride so if you want to hit snooze, you can. I think you are good to go for now. Although we are seeing a few brake lights on the san mateo bridge. Thats getting busy. Reports of a possible crash or stalled vehicle chp is headed out to the scene to see whats slowing things down here. But that westbound commute down to about 6 Miles Per Hour as you head into foster city. Doesnt look too bad though coming out of hayward. Justin . Happening today, the Vallejo Police department is holding a Community Town hall to discuss Police Response times as theyve been grappling with staffing shortages. Its not every day that the call for help is actually coming from inside the police department. But they are stretched thin. Last month, the department told us it only has 34 patrol officers in a city of 126,000 people. Vallejo police chief says his department has roughly 51 officer vacancies. Thanks to a lengthy hiring process there are difficulties retaining officers. The state of emergency helps the department recruit more officers. And get more fill in help from other Law Enforcement agencies. Last month, some expressed concern that the Police Community connection also needs improvement there. To this day i have never seen a cop come up door to door talking to the Business Owners to you know, to to get bigger ties with the community. See whats going on. Really being engaged. I have never seen that. All right. So this Community Meeting here is set for 6 00 this evening and it is expected to touch on several things. Including some of the proposed changes when it comes to responding to alarm calls for service. The Solano County Sheriffs Office could take over Law Enforcement in vallejo if the city cant get more officers. Amanda . Meanwhile, now to the Antioch Police department. And it has seen scandal turmoil and soon a major departure. Its police chief retired yesterday but now will be getting a new one for now. The acting city manager has announced captain joe vigil will lead the force starting on saturday. And hes taking on a massive job to say the least. Antioch police are in the middle of a federal investigation arras education texting scandal and more than 40 officers are on leave. Captain vigil who was in the middle of the picture right here joined the department in 2020 and a 23 year Law Enforcement veteran. Who also worked for richmond and sacramento police. And people in oakland are weighing in on the qualities they want to see in a new police chief. A series of Public Meetings kicked off on saturday with two more set for this saturday. Opd has been without a permanent chief for most of the year. After mayoral sheng thao fired laurent armstrong saying he mishandled officer misconduct cases. Well, its one thing to see whats hopping on the streets of the tenderloin. Drug dealing and violence and even killing and another thing not to be able to look away from it. Thats true for the people who live there and one longtime tenderloin resident thought maybe that is exactly what other people and city leaders need to be able to experience to understand what is happening there. So he decided to break out cameras and record everything. Our kelsi thorud spoke with the man whos living life in the tenderloin. He asked us not to show his face and to distort his voice. So first shot went off and he fired back. They all took off running. Reporter john has lived in the tenderloin for more than 30 years. And says hes never seen things as bad as they are right now. This is just normal. We see this stuff all the time. Ive become so accustomed to it, i dont think about the fact that its not right sometimes. Its crazy. Reporter just this weekend, john caught a shooting on one of the many security cameras he has set up outside his home. In it, you can see a man shooting a gun multiple times in the middle of an intersection as people and cars go by. Yeah, there was an initial shot fired from the other direction and then he just went off and started firing back like the wild, wild west. Just madness. Reporter john says he and Neighbors Call Police constantly to report the violence and drug dealing that plagues their block day and night. He says the police do come to investigate, but the dealers just hide out until theyre gone. The drug dealers are smart. The people are smart. They move around and they come back. And it continues on. Reporter thats why john decided to take things into his own hands. For a while now, hes been documenting all of the drug dealing and crime on his block, posting videos on social media under the handle tenderlointube. He says his goal is to show people the reality of whats going on in the hopes that city officials and others will do something to stop it. I know its complicated, but i know you know, everybody has an opinion what should be done. I dont think enabling people, you know, with doing drugs is helping. I think, you know, theres so many factors. Theres getting the people who are using the drugs the help they need. Theres getting the people who are selling the drugs like the you have to be out here and you have to address these issues. Reporter john says until these issues are solved, he will continue to post videos of whats going on in the tenderloin online. He wants everyone, especially those who dont live in the neighborhood, to witness whats happening so they cant turn a blind eye. All just begging for someone to listen to it and just be more consistent and follow through. Lets take a look at the other top stories. Were learning new details about the death of oakland native and euphoria actor angus cloud. He died last week at the age of 25. As his family home in oakland. M. On sunday when this happened. The crew was responding to 20acre brush fire in the area and one of the two choppers was able to land safely. But also a tremendous loss to those family members. Authorities and aviation officials are still working to figure out how that collision happened. Right now more than 11,000 city workers in los angeles have walked off the job. Theyre joining writers and actors and Hotel Workers on the picket lines for 24 hours. That strike impacts everything from sanitation workers to shuttle drivers at l. A. X. But city Officials Say Emergency Services will not be affected. Its 6 10. Could name change be on the way for Oakland International airport . Why rebrand is even being considered this morning. Jocelyn . Well, amanda, maybe its our lucky day today. The Mega Millions jackpot is the largest in the games history. So are you feeling lucky on this Tuesday Morning . If you are, make sure you buy a Lottery Ticket today for the Mega Millions. That jackpot is the largest in the games history. Jocelyn moran live from a gas station in San Francisco. And jocelyn, this retailer is considered to be a lucky one. So did you get your ticket yet . Reporter okay. Amanda, i have not gotten my ticket yet. But guess who has . Our photojournalist brian kiley just bought about 20 worth of the tickets here and actually just told me hes hoping to retire after this mornings shift here. So well see how that goes. Also he has to share with everyone on the morning team. He just told me that. Thats the good news here. All right, so the Mega Millions jackpot, 1. 55 billion and if that holds, that is the largest in the games history. And it is in the top three largest in u. S. History when it comes to lotteries here. So we are at a lucky location what is considered to be lucky. What makes it lucky . Take a look here. This is according to californias lottery website here. They have to meet one or more of the criteria during the 2021 calendar year. So they had to sold at least 100,000 or higher ticket. And they have had to pay out an average of 4,000 in Winning Tickets per week. That is what makes a location lucky. And we are here at one in San Francisco. So when we talk about this jackpot that everyone is talking about this morning, a single Winning Ticket would have the choice of taking an estimated lump sum payment of 757. 2 million before taxes, or an immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that eventually equal the full jackpot minus taxes. There have now been five Mega Millions jackpots that have been more than 1 billion. The Los Angeles Area has been lucky recently. We know this. The Winning Ticket for februarys 2 billion Powerball Jackpot was sold in a city in l. A. County. And last month, a single Winning Ticket for the 1. 08 billion jackpot was sold in downtown l. A. Maybe its the bay areas turn to get lucky here. The rods when we talk about what your odds are of winning today. It is one in 302. 58 million. All right. I kind of like the odds this morning but you know e what . Kiley right here said hes sharing with us amanda, if he wins. Remember keep to him. I dont know. He likes to share all the vegetables from the garden. I dont think hes sharing the money though. All right, thank you so much. All right, a check on the weather now with first alert meteorologist jessica birch. And he does have a great garden. Any of the rain, probably wont. Not going to get any of the rain though. He lives in the east bay. Some coastal drizzle this morning specifically along the peninsula and halfmoon bay. Cooler weather through the next couple of days as low pressure moves in from the north. Definitely notice it today compared to yesterday. If you live off into the east bay, yesterday we were talking about 90s and triple digits. Today, low 80s for many of us. More clouds also along that coastline and thats going to be the trend too as we continue to wring out just a little bit of that moisture from all these clouds. Well get about a quarter inch just near halfmoon bay and less than 0. 01 closer to bodega bay. But take a look at whats coming from the south. This is the leftover setup from Tropical Storm eugene. As it slowly makes its way into our california coastline down in Southern California by thursday. It wrings out just a little bit of cloud coverage for us late thursday night into early friday morning. Back here in the bay. Thats a little far ahead and lets take it a step back and daytime highs today for our tuesday forecast sitting below average. 60s along our coast and 70s up near santa rosa and only low 80s off in the east inland hills. Like i said yesterday we were talking about upper 90s and triple digits. Whats going on for the rest to have week . Stay below average for now and then shoot back above average once we head into the weekend. Be prepared ready that. If we live off in the east bay and even aim long the coast too. Notice a built of a change. Heres the temperature anomaly map showing below normal conditions in the blue all throughout california. As we head into this thursday and friday setup. Then by the weekend we see a big shift. All in the yellow. What does that mean . Above average temperatures for us not only along the coast but even into the inland areas and 80s for now. 90s and plenty of sunshine as we head into the weekend. We even notice that warmup along the coast not nearly as much. But these dense clouds we have now will turn into partly cloudy skies as we head into the weekend setup. San francisco a very similar trend and luckily see 70s as soon as saturday and sunday. Underland will be gorgeous and also expecting 70s in oakland and across the bay down into the santa clara valley. Pretty much flirting back and forth with the 70s and 80s all week long. Updated you on the big changes in the forecast for us and enjoy the coral weather especially for the kids heading back to school today. Gianna. Yeah, i know a lot of kids heading back to school this week especially in the oakland area. So when you are out and about, traveling through there and driving you are going to notice more kids walking around. Just chemoyour eyes peeled for that. And be a little mindful theres a lot of little one out and about and next week a whole slew of areas next week as well. All right, a look at the current traffic conditions getting ready to take the san mateo bridge. It is backed up this morning and reports of a crash westbound a little bit closer to the foster city side but certainly making things crowded as you get on to the san mateo bridge. Working your way westbound through there over on to 101. So a bit backed up because of that. Speedsdiping down to about 4 Miles Per Hour. Definitely slow there. If you want to use the dunbarton. A much better ride right now. You will definitely save some time. If you are getting towards the bay bridge, all right, time to get going. You definitely want to grab the coffee and get in the car and head over. It is slow with the metering lights on. And its certainly backed up quickly at least beyond that 880 overpass. Not quite to the foot of the maze. But it is growing. Now
