Got preseason coverage for you and the red and gold report also coming up. It is a big news weekend. We have the 49ers and the raiders. We play on sunday. All of that action. On top of that we want to get to some serious elements as well. You know, here in maui, not s not forgotten. This is home to one ever the largest populations in the united states. They have been gathering a lot of donations today he wants to gather so much to help his family in lahaina. While we get to all of the hoopla and the fun and vern glen will do live hits for us about practice and the red and gold report and what is ahead we want to get to serious news. For that, we will bring it to sara donchey in the studio with more thank you very much. The pictures of the devastation coming out of hawaii are just unbelievable. Drone images showing historic lahaina reduced to ashes. Residents were allowed to check on their homes. Not much to find among remnants and burned out cars. One farmer was able to boat in today to check on his land. His crops are all gone. He fears much bigger losses. What is. I lost nothing compared to what people lost. I lost farm stuff and food and whatever, tiny Little Things compared to what people lost. People lost their family, they lost their houses, everything we have seen, all of the landmarks, everything that we have seen for years, history, it is all gone. This was the gut punch. We learned the death toll stands at 67 people. That would make thissed deadliest Natural Disaster in hawaiis history. Plane from the mainland have come to help find the missing including contra costa county. A lot of people are staying in shelters on maui and not able to connect with their loved ones. We are hearing stories of families reunited. Including a bay area dad who was separated from his Young Children for two days, they will land in san jose a little over an hour from now. We spoke with the dad before they left maui. Reporter for more than two days shawn and his wife could only wonder if their 15monthold baby luke and 7yearold son matthew were safe. Without any way of contacting them. I believe in miracles. They do not happen that often. Reporter they left their young kids with their grandfather at a hotel on tuesday afternoon to buy groceries in lahaina when the inferno ignited and ripped through the island fueled by hurricanelike winds. The road closures made it difficult. His wife found a way to hop on to a special bus Late Wednesday taking trapped tourists back to the hotel. I am so excited they are with me now and, yeah. Beyond, beyond happy. It is just, yeah. Unbelievable. Reporter state and federal Officials Say thousands are displaced after fleeing the flames. Plane stay overnight at the airport in emergency shelters. This family is grateful to take a flight back to the bay area knowing the devastation has left so many reeling, losing homes and lives. We know from what we have seen that people here in maui need a lot of help and resources. So, just encourage people to keep on giving. Keep on encouraging, keep on praying. Reporter so many families extremely fortunate to reunite. The major concern tonight is the more than 1,000 people still believed to be unaccounted for as search and rescue operations continue. I can not even imagine the anxiety for those people. Bay area couple honeymooning on maui when the fire broke out they are safe tonight. We are thankful to report that after a escape from this fire. It was not the first time they have had to do that. They also had to flee the tubbs fire back in 2017. It felt like it was worse just because there is really only like two ways to go out and one way was completely shutdown and closed. In santa rosa there were at least multiple ways out. I even called my family to say goodbye to them, too. I was not really sure i was going to make it out of it. We spoke to that couple and they were able to secure a flight out. United airlines in partnership with the red cross is flying out more than 100 pal lets of gloves and cleanup kits and thousands of blankets and personal supplies. There is video of all of the cargo loaded up at sfo. Unite side working to fly out members of world central kitchen who will provide food to evacuees, so many people want to do something to help and jules i know that you found that is the case in vegas. Personally from my own experience i know a lot of people from hawaii who ended up moving to vegas. It sounds like they are getting a lot of Community Support there, right . Reporter absolutely. We saw that today. You know, vegas is considered the ninth island, for that reason, sara, so many people move friday hawaii to vegas. That means they still have loved ones in hawaii and specifically plawy and lahaina. We had a chance to meet up with a Business Owner who has family there and he is trying to gather dough flations dough nations donations to help. He lives in vegas. He grew up in lahaina and his family there lost everything. We have to stay strong and do what we can for them on that end. My grandmother, mom, dad, everybody like that. He owns a business in vegas. Today he owned up early to fill it with Community Donations for loved ones and community in lahaina. Vegas pouring their hearts and souls into helping the people in lahaina. They call las vegas the ninth island. A lot of hawaiians came to vegas being that it is a little too rough to live out there. It is too expensive. We can not afford our lives in hawaii. Reporter he does not know when he will see his family next. He is just doing what he can to help. We are not homeless because we live there but we are houseless. Everybody lost everything, yes. Everyone is healthy and safe . It is only two or three days in, right, everything settles in after a couple weeks when you finally realize everything is gone. Reporter our hearts go out to his family and all of those families effected. There are so many people here that are just aching because they do have loved ones. If you at home in the bay area would like to help we have information if you would like to help the fire victims of maui. We have information. Go to our website at kpix. Com and it will guide you along the way to be able to help those in need. Also, still ahead, our vegas coverage continues, we have much more ahead. Sin city is host to super bowl 58. We will hear from the planning commity and all of the surprises they have in store Planning Committee and all of the surprises they have in store. We will tell you who will be taking the first preseason snaps on sunday when we come back. Here in the bay area the fog has swallowed up the top of sales force tower. A hint of blue at the top of the screen. Temperatures today, slightly below average. Coming to an end tomorrow. More of a warm up next week. I dont know if you can hear it. We are being serenaded by a harpist. Not only are people waving you with palm frowns but you are serenaded as well. Pretty much this is the way to live. Not bad at all for mrs. Goodrich. We will see if she demands that attention when she is back in the studio. No outside lands is happening, folks gathers from just a couple hours ago. Showing the crowds, already, flocking into golden gate park. The three day festival continues tomorrow and saturday. Obviously. Foggiest weather with the fog refusing to budge from along the coast and over golden gate park. I dont think anybody minded. The weather is looking pretty good for the next couple of days of the festival. We will see more sunshine breaking through along the coast. Especially on sunday. The temperatures warming up into the upper half of the 60s, even at golden gate park. Not bad at all. A warming trend on the way for the entire bay area. Noticeable away from the water. Little ripple in the atmosphere down from the south. The remnants of eugene. A sense of moisture. A trace of rainfall this afternoon in the santa clara valley. But the bulk of that is concentrated in the high sierra. Pop up showers and thunderstorms there as we head through the weekend. If you are heading in that direction. The temperatures will warm up again farther inland. The temperatures in the upper 90s in concord by monday and tuesday. For once, our temperatures are not going to peak saturday or sunday. That is the way it has gone so far this summer. Shifting things a little bit the hottest weather is not going to be that hot. The heatwaves that we have had, brief as they have been, exceeded this. Not seeing dangerous heat settling in. Still, exercise caution to be on the safe side. Looking outside in san jose, beautiful, the temperature at 70 degrees there. About 60 in San Francisco with the fog rolling in. The temperature in concord just below 80 degrees. Right now you are the warm spot. The fog is widespread heading through tonight and through the morning. Backing up out of the inland valleys quickly. Around the bay, the fog breaks up by the late morning, sunshine, going through the clouds. You will see more of that for the second half of the weekend on sunday. So, that lack of more widespread fueling pushing farther inland, saturday night, sunday, it means better visibility for the meteor shower. You want to get away from the city lights, marine layer, Higher Elevations give you the best visibility. Looking to the northeast. Around midnight. The darkest part of the night. 100 shooting stars an hour as earth passes through the trail of the swift tunnel that comes through t. Is off of the top of my head i could be wrong. The comet is not there. The temperatures dropping down to the 50s to lower 60s. Warming up quickly, inland, mixture of 70s and 80s, temperatures in the 60s in the water. Temperatures should hit a mixture of 80s and 90s, hot spot, below 100 degrees, everybody within two to three degrees of average saturday afternoon. Warming up a little more for the second half of the weekend. Once again, as it has been so far this summer, a modest warm up around the bay. The temperatures staying around 70 in San Francisco through most of next week with middle to upper 70s in oakland and the east bay. Everyone is back to near normal by next friday. Not going to be another long stretch of warm weather. Again, not that intense compared to the heatwaves we have had, brief as they may have been. Hottest day. Mixture of 80s and 90 rs in the north pay and the santa clara valley. The hottest spots inland and the east bay, should get up to 100 degrees on monday and tuesday for coasting back down to near normal by the end of next week the temperatures along the coast, no problems, staying in the 60s, more sunshine breaking through by fox week. Of course, juliette will have plenty of sunshine, vern as well, temperatures game time as everyone is filing in the stadium it will be around 100 degrees, thank goodness for airconditioning. Ah, that is childs play. 100 outside, 72 inside. Thank you for guiding us along and keeping us informed as to our heat the last couple of days. To your point, though, at the stadium, Climate Controlled. Indoors, the place will be cool. But smoking hot. Speaking of Climate Control i dont know if you know this, at the raiders practice they have a walk in freezer 17 degrees. Oh. 17 degrees. How about that for a quick blast. That sounds nice. I know you will talk about the red and gold report. A full show at 7 30. A countdown to not kick off but the red and gold report. I am looking at my fullback over there off camera. Lorenzo who is ready for this one at 7 30. I will tell you on this one, the joint practices, they are over. Okay, nothing but the game on kpix coming up sunday at 1 00. I must say, shout out, raiders facility. It really showed out well. Yeah. The flame, for al davis burns bright in front of those headquarters there. The fire is still burning, strong with Trent Williams the 49er star left tackle made the pro bowl every season he has played going back to 2012. Even the 35yearold wonders how much longer he can continue that streak. Every year i dont really feel confident until i get back here and get to moving around and then a couple plays i feel it, all right, all right, it did not happen yet. I can play another year. Not worry about it. I want to see how long i can push this thing. I want to see how long i can fight. You know, when he wins, you know, he will win. I will hang them up Trent Williams will not be playing. Brock purdy will not be playing. Trey lance will be the starting quarterback. Under center, sunday at 1 00. Question for you. Yes . Are they really executing you dont want them to know your smart moves. You take plays off and it is caught on camera you will hear about it from your position coach. All right i will give it to the raiders today. The defense, that was the star of the day. Purdy struggled. A couple picks, but still, all of that, he is qb1 and will be when they play for real coming up in september. Against the who . This sunday. This sunday, the raiders. Never gets old to me. That is right. Red and gold report coming up at 7 30. Also, keep in mind we are talking about las vegas being host to the super bowl. So, i did talk to the Host Committee to get ins and outs about what they have planned and also they said get ready, 2026 bay area, we are host. They have some tips for us. Well be right back. Keep in mind here in las vegas this is the host city for the super bowl. Super bowl lviii. I visited with the Host Committee to see what they have in store. There is the first time for vegas. And, in 2026 the super bowl comes back to the bay area. It has been such a pleasure being here and bringing you stories about all of the ins and the outs before preseason coverage happens on sunday on our station. The niners and the raiders. You know, allegian t stadium, it is nice. I went to some of my sources to find out what they think about that aspect . Dj has been a las vegas cab driver for 10 years. We struck up a conversation. What is this road like when the super bowl comes it is crazy. Reporter crazy in a good way. Is that good for you . Yes. Good for everybody. Good for business. Good for everybody. Reporter the only thing he is not crazy about is the Stadium Parking situation. No parking, the parking lot is no good. You need a better parking lot. Needs better parking . Yes. For taxi pick up, drop off area, not good area. No good. Reporter not good as for his Favorite Team . The raiders not the niners . No, i live in vegas, there is my town team it was oaklands team. But they changed it now it is the raiders. Oh, okay. It is yours now. Yes. Reporter i was not going to push it. I wanted to get to my destination. Thanks to dj the cab driver and to everyone that has been part of our stories this week. We have the red and gold report coming up with vern glenn, a lot to cover.
