A six mile stretch is still under construction between 780 interchange in vallejo and highway 4 in hercules which includes carquinez bridge. Cal trans is reporting progress and expects to reopen tomorrow morning. We have no spaces, no joints. One three mile long smooth trip. Its better for motorists and also better for the pavement because it doesnt get the pounding that causes vibration that damages it. We should get 40 years of life out of this work we are doing this weekend. Its only affecting west lanes. All east bound lanes remain open during construction. How are you going to get around this mess . All weekend, alternates have been 780, 680, highway 4. A lot of people are off work and school so we are not seeing as much traffic as we did friday. It got quite busy on the alternates. Later today you will see busy conditions on 780, take that to 680 and whip around highway 4 or take it through walnut creek to the 580 connector and that will get you to the bay bridge. You have some options. Expect busy conditions later on because a lot of people will be on their way home. If you are getting out and about, maybe plan your travels around this closure and when it will be less busy. A live look across major airports. An easy ride, everything is moving along nicely for the most part. A heads up, if you are headed towards the bay bridge, you see the line of red. We have a car fire thats slowing things down. Theyre going to block lanes in the maze as they try to clear it to the shoulder. Give yourself extra time, a few extra minutes. I am sure that will wrap up in the next minutes. San mateo bridge is clear in both directions and Golden Gate Bridge is good as well. Its foggy but not bad as you head into San Francisco. Mass transit is on time. It is labor day so there are changes. Most are operating on a weekend or Holiday Schedule so bart, cal tran, muni, check that schedule. On 80 all lanes shuts down between vallejo and highway 4 until tomorrow morning. Theyre hoping to have everything open by 5 00 a. M. Fingers crossed that happens. Use 780, 680, highway 4 as alternates. It is labor day so a lot of people will be out and about later today. It will be busy in the afternoon for folks heading home. Transit month is underway. It is supposed to be a happy occasion but there is a problem. The system is in critical need of riders. Reporter its flow secret Public Transit has struggled to bounce back after the pandemic. Transit leaders hope this month will help uplift the system and highlight importance of keeping Public Transit moving. Celebrating the role of Public Transit, but this year the celebration is a critical time. We need to signal to elected leaders and the rest of the public that this is still a valuable resource, something that deserves to be invested in and were in a critical period now where our federal money is running out in the next year and a half. Allison says bart ridership is around 40 of prepandemic levels. However, theyre not alone with a slow recovery. Ridership across most bay area Public Transit agencies isnt roaring back. Throughout september, bart and other agencies will incentivize people to take Public Transit with things like con tastes tests and prizes. But there will be events and discussions surrounding topics like safety and how to improve the system. I asked about safety on bart. He said perception isnt always the reality. Numbers tell a different story. That crime is actually relatively rare for bart riders. The agency is implementing several new strategies to make bart safer. Beginning september 11, we will start running trains with fewer train cars, which means you are less likely to be on a train car all by yourself. He says that will allow Police Officers to better patrol. Another change, theyll be replacing fare gates. Well have the first array of new fare gates at west oakland station in december. Were going to replace them within a year and a half. This is going to help deter some of the unwanted behavior by people who were able to sneak in without paying.
