Handle the pain no more. And then i was like i got to do this. And talk about strength. A bay area fitness buff sets a world record even after a tough diagnosis. On the ground, a base hit and the giants take the lead. Dont count them out just yet. Our giants arent giving up hope of a playoff spot this october. Well, good morning on this tuesday, im gianna franco. And yes, fingers are crossed a lot has to happen for the giants to make it to the playoffs. But when they say theres a chance, reed. Your toes are crossed too. I just checked. All right, my toes and fingers are crossed for them as well and for you this morning. We hope you feel like a winner lets talk about the weather this morning. Chances are your plans are getting a little bit of a drink. Hi jess. Depends on where you live though, reed. Some of us especially the plants got a lot more than others. All of the climates are doing Something Different this morning as we wake up to the smell of rain in the north bay and along the peninsula. Not so much down in the south bay though. I mean we have partly cloudy skies and heres a live look behind me of san jose. And as we take a look at current temperatures in san jose, were sitting in the 60s a very similar trend off near los gatos just a little bit cooler near morgan hill and heading up more north, thats where all the action was when it came to the overnight system that swept through and gave us quite some rain in the forecast. Its still a little bit cloudy and those dense clouds are holding on tight to areas like the bay bridge. And the Golden Gate Bridge this morning. Temperatures sitting in San Francisco at the 60s right now. Later into this afternoon, were going to continue to stay in the 60s near San Francisco. So not too much of a change there. But lets dive straight into the radar because its active this morning. We already saw about a half inch of rain near areas likemont tall and a quarter inch in pockets like mill valley and santa rosa. Well continue to see a close eye on the numbers but it looks like this system is finally coming to an end. Look how just this morning alone it kind of the swept throughout the peninsula giving a little splash of showers for us. I used the wipers this morning but i go to work a lot earlier than im sure some of us waking up this morning do. As we head into this afternoon well continue to see the system really break apart. Light showers in the forecast for just a bit longer. But heres what were looking at on futurecast. In total as we head into the next couple of hours. Most of the showers stay offshore. Partly cloudy skies this morning off the coast. This was our first fall system that gave us light showers. But were drying up as we head into the rest of this week with some gusty afternoons ahead of us. Ill have more on the fall forecast in a bit. For now g, how are the roads right now . A little slick out there, jess and you know what . We have reports of a crash in an area where weve been seeing some of the wet weather. Its near the bay bridge and live look here look at all the backup. Metering lights are on and only 6 03 and it looks pretty bad. Thats because we have a crash on the upper deck around Treasure Island and its blocking lanes so anytime we get a trouble spot on the bridge it really sets the tone for most of this morning. Its right around that exit there near Treasure Island. And at least one lane is completely shut down for this injury crash. You have got chp and fire crews on scene. Hopefully theyll get that cleared and everything will get back to normal or at least get a little bit better. In the meantime maybe stick with the richmondsan rafael rand or the san mateo bridge or even b. A. R. T. As the alternate. Your community station live in oakland this morning. Where we see and hear businesses saying enough is enough. In the face of business killing crime. Restaurants struggling to stay open and others have shut down and some big name restaurants too. The response, well, businesses are banding together to send a message and Shawn Chitnis is live this morning on the action theyre taking. A one day strike. Whats the message of this, shawn . Reporter well, reed, these Business Owners want to make it clear that they are upset and they feel like they have no other option. While its unclear what the impact may be, this could give us a sense of what its like in oakland if all of these businesses suddenly have to close. Tony cheung owns new tins market in oaklands chinatown. Ive been here for 20 years and its never been like this. Never. Reporter he cant believe whats happened to his neighborhood. Where businesses like his have to start closing earlier in the day, 4 30 p. M. , scared someone may target his store in the evening. Sad that i have to close the store. Reporter businesses like his now choosing to close for one day on their own to get more attention on the crime in oakland. I dont understand how the respect has gone out the door. Reporter this frustration towards city leaders comes soon after oakland was late to submit a proposal for funding, missing out on state money to help fight organized retail theft. And according to oakland police, there have been more than 10,000 stolen cars reported so far this year. Thats up 51 compared to the same period in 2022. We have seen oakland chinatown thrive. But last couple of years its gone down. We would like for it to come back and we want to be a safe area for everyone to walk in. Reporter tony worries for his fellow store owners, his employees and his customers. All conveying to him a fear and frustration that wont go away. We just hope that somebody listens to what we have to say. And show that they have respect for what were trying to do for everybody in the surrounding so tony will be able to close for the entire day some businesses only able to close for a couple of hours. Those that can will join a press conference that is set to begin at 10 00 a. M. That will also include the bay area small mer chant chamber as well as the naacp. Reed, back to you. All right, thank you. And you know, whats hard about this is im glad theyre making a point and theyre taking a stand. But it is a loss of revenue for a lot of in businesses not getting the foot traffic. The thought is if we close our doors were going to show how much the public needs us. If were not here which many of us are not here because of crime, maybe it can send the right message. Meanwhile what the mayor is doing there . Oakland . Mayor sheng thao talking about crime in the city recently to our ryan yamamoto. Heres what she had to say. We are working very closely with the Business Community you know, were having ongoing conversations with them. We have a couple of Different Things that we are launching including you know, one of those things is being the cameras. Right . We talked about the 300 cameras that my administration is bringing to the city. The cameras will be able to identify suspect vehicles and where then o pd can actually create perimeters and apprehend the criminals to get them off our streets immediately. Meanwhile n your likely to hear this in the news conference, the leaders there dont want just cameras. They want boots on the ground and they want to see more presence from officers and the say local, state and otherwise. Thats one of the talking points. I think when you have that presence out there, that makes a big difference but then you need the money to pay for those officers. Right. Who pays for it. Exactly. Wheres that coming from . All right, much more questions for us to answer ask as journalists here. Air force one delivering President Joe Biden to the bay. Where hes going to be and why hes here straight ahead. Our concern is why we werent notified. Clearing the air, your community station in martinez hearing your concerns about refinery emissions. More on that. Lets get a live look outside on this tuesday morning. This is from our roof cam and you can see some of those cities those buildings already lit up here in the city. Its a little murky out there. Jess goli, taste your goals. entrtresto is ththe 1 ht fafailure branand prescribed by cardiologists. It was proven superior at helping people stay alive and out of the hospital. President joe biden back in the bay area today all part of his work to get reelected. The president meeting donors in attarton and also stop in San Francisco and meet with science and tech leaders went. This is coming from mr. Biden arriving fresh from joining auto workers on the picket lines in michigan. While biden is here, the man who wants to be president again will also meet with auto union members. Donald trump is going to be in detroit wednesday. Thats going to play out by the way on the second night of the gop primary debate which mr. Trump once again says hes going to skip. You know, in the bay area, political moves here by people who want San Francisco mayor breed out of office levi strauss heir daniel lury will reportedly file to run for mayor. Hell be the third moderate in the race alongside current mayor breed and supervisor safai who will be joining us live on the broadcast in the 6 00 a. M. Hour. Hes going to be talking crime in San Francisco also going to be mentioning the importance of getting boots on ground and seeing more officers here. To your point when we talk about oakland whos going to pay for it will be asking supervisor safai about that. By the way x us we should say any questions youd like us to ask the supervisor. We would be happy to do so. Thats a hard habit to break. From x to twitter sorry elon. We need to get to jess a right news jessica right now because we had wet weather this morning. Jess. We got all the leftovers from the large system that really impacted the pacific northwest. Im putting emphasis on the leftovers though because we didnt see a lot of rain in the system. Just a little bit as it wrung out over the bay area. Specifically up in the north bay. So on the contrary were actually going to start off down in the south bay. Live look right now. Partly cloudy skies over san jose. Sitting in the 60s this morning throughout the Santa Clara Valley. And into this afternoon, were going to warm up into the 80s in certain pockets down there. But others of us like San Francisco, for example, currently sitting in the 60s. Were going to be topping off in the 60s today. So all of the may crew climates are doing something a little bit different as this system moved its way in giving us rain. And when it comes to the rain totals actually the north bay got the most of it. Near areas like mount tam actually got close to a half inch of rain in the overnight system but for the friends in the south bay, ive been trying to pull numbers. Really not too much. If anything just a light speckle here and there. But heres what we have right now on the live satellite and radar imagery. Notice how that system is really coming to an end. I mean all that green right there, thats that band that really started to break apart in the Early Morning hours. Now were starting to see drier conditions in the afternoon. So totalling up everything we saw so far, close to half an inch like i said just close to mount tam. About a half inch closer to areas like santa rosa all the way off into mill valley. Less impressive numbers throughout the rest of the bay area. Specifically up in the north bay and heres the area of low pressure. Its going to continue to move to the north and leaving us with drier conditions. For the next seven days. Now the next big weather story for us, just these gusty afternoons bringing in those falllike conditions. Especially into the evening hours too. So with that in mind lets actually take a look at the winds. Wind gusts anywhere up to around 20 Miles Per Hour today as we head anywhere from 3 00 all the way into the dinner time hours tonight. Widespread from San Francisco all the way up into the inland areas with that nice onshore flow. Now match that with our daytime highs today, its really starting to feel like fall here in the bay area. Up into the north bay we go, 70s from novato all the way over into santa rosa. Now heading closer to San Francisco like i mentioned were sitting in the 60s right now. Were topping off in the 60s so temperatures, theyre not going to change too much more compared to what were dealing with as you walk out the door this morning. Its different though as we head down in the south bay. Averse in the forecast near los gatos and morgan hill. Still in the 60s right now. A 20degree jump into the afternoon hours and it will look the same all the way over into antioch. Last but not least a look at the next seven days. Some changes in the forecast. Not by much but you will notice by wednesday and thursday, it will feel a little bit warmer for us with sunshine in the forecast. Partly cloudy skies returning by friday. And then well cool down into the weekend into the 70s. Thats just our inland forecast. 70s there but heading closer to areas like oakland over into say low and even San Francisco for that matter, we are going to crank up the heat a hair more into the wednesday forecast. Then we cool also down nicely into the weekend with partly cloudy skies. G . All right, yes, sir, thank you. Moving on the freeways because its a little tough in some spots. Were getting word of a trouble spot in the south bay on surface streets and more on that coming up in a few. But right now my attention on the bay bridge toll plaza. Really backed up early this morning because theres a crash on the upper deck of the bay bridge. Right at Treasure Island. Involving a couple of vehicles and possible injuries and at least one lane is blocked. The left lane. This is right around Treasure Island and look at this. It is backed up pretty much the whole way of the span there all the way from the bay bridge toll plaza all the way heading into San Francisco. So from oakland to the city, you are definitely going to see those brake lights. No word yet when the lanes will open up. But certainly making it extra busy at the bridge there. Richmondsan rafael bridge, maybe the san mateo bridge, even b. A. R. T. Thats a good possibility as well. All right, working your way on northbound 101, getting a little bit slow right around that 280 connector. Theres also trouble spot on surface streets and thats coming up in a few minutes. Thats a look at the manage drive. Well, for months cbs news has been investigating the Record Number of stolen cars being trafficked in america. Back to you. This is fghts information a lot of people want to know. Thank you so much and you can catch the full investigation on car hacking tonight at 5 00 p. M. Reed . Your community station in martinez this morning where we hear you. Demanding answers and some change after a hazmat release from a refinery ten months ago. Our Jocelyn Moran was at a meeting last night as the people affected demand answers. Our concern is why we werent notified when it first happened and why cch wasnt notified when it first happened. So that we could bring in our animals and make sure that our families werent outside breathing this. Im concerned this report minimizes the effects of heavy metals. Reporter residents who live near the Martinez Refining Company want answers. They had the chance to voice their concerns to the Contra Costa County Health Department. Heidi taylor is one of the residents who listened in virtually. I hope there are no longterm consequences of that. I just dont know. We dont know. Reporter shes one of the residents who woke up to what looked like white ash in november of last year. They later learned it was the release of spent catalyst. This was going to be our big garden. Reporter we spoke to her earlier in the year when she and neighbors had been told they shouldnt consume anything grown in their yards. But then in june, the Contra Costa Health Department Said there were no lingering threats in the soil samples. I think this is the lone survivor of the original garden here. This is my oregano. I think its oregano let me just see. Yeah. Can we eat our vegetables was one issue. Now, its why did it happen and thats what we want to know. Reporter but residents faced even more. In july, the Company Released petroleum coke. Were always on alert. Reporter for heidi and many other residents, its about accountability. And making martinez
