Service, he joins us now in the studio. You got to see it firsthand. What stood out to you . The ceremony was absolutely touching. They came to remember the late senator Dianne Feinstein, to remember how tough you could be as a politician, and also how personal she could be with a gentle touch when it came to connecting with people around her. Reporter they came to say goodbye to a woman who broke glass ceilings in the political world. Millions of girls my age and long after me have grown blissfully free of the yokes our grandmothers war because Dianne Feinstein wrestled them off , because she showed the way. She created a world where girls like me could be tough, where we could lead. Reporter longtime colleague and former u. S. Senator from california barbara boxer, and the late senator feinstein paved the way for women to follow in their footsteps. Feinstein began in the city by the bay. San francisco was the place that believed in her. I think it is so fitting and such a gorgeous day. I think it is obviously what she wanted, and it is fitting. Feinsteins roots made their way to the nations capital, as her command at negotiating had impact on negotiating powers, including the vice president. In that room, there was give and take, substantive debate, and problem solving. And that was quintessential dianne. Reporter former House Speaker nancy pelosi spoke of feinsteins personal touch. She cultivated relationships, bringing people together , officially, personally, and romantically. You know that dianne was a matchmaker. Reporter she connected people with others, and during her time as mayor and supervisor of San Francisco, she made a change happen. Arranging for the toxic cleanup of the bayview Hunters Point shipyard, to the restoration of the cable cars , to finding money to restore the historic ships at aquatic park. I mean, the list is virtually endless. It is going to be a tough loss for San Francisco. Whoever replaces her is not going to keep San Francisco for most in their everyday thoughts. It was interesting, as the speakers were coming, they had to kind of compete with the fleet week, the blue angels flying above. That could be frustrating, when you are trying to speak and you keep getting interrupted, but actually it was so fitting, because she brought fleet week to San Francisco 40 years ago. It was almost like a nod to her, that they were chiming in as the speakers give their presentations. She brought so many things to San Francisco, that was one of them. We saw kamala harris, nancy pelosi, chuck schumer, we saw giants of the political world giving speeches in honor of Dianne Feinstein, but maybe the most memorable was from her family. Her granddaughter spoke last about how the late senator taught her chest. She said the senator never likes to lose, but that was just one of the lessons she learned from her grandmother. The granddaughter also spoke about how every night, the senator would put her to bed and she would sing to her you are my sunshine and at the end, it was fitting, the granddaughter said diane, you were my sunshine. So touching, especially part two, the great anecdote, where she said her grandmother taught her to always bring a black pantsuit, you never know when it will always be appropriate. Thanks. For complete coverage of the Service Today for the late senator feinstein, head to our website, kpix. Com. Turning to weather, an unusually hot day for early fall, especially along the water. Tomorrows High Temperatures , compared to where we are supposed to be the time of year, a good 15 or 20 degrees above average. Upper 80s in San Francisco and oakland, mid90s for most inline spots. Compare that to average, way above normal. There is influence of Climate Change on this, but really it makes it just one of the half to two times more likely to get this kind of heat with this particular weather pattern at this time of year. So it is not an off the charts event, but still hot. We take a look at when the cooldown arrives later in the full forecast. Coming up at 6 00, our Kelsey Thorpe will look into how the agreement came together, and the impact on the bay area sports scene. Going to be great for the bay area to have that team in town. The chase center is a fabulous place to watch a game. Another excuse to go there. We can all look forward to that, and the airconditioning, i think. Today, especially. One of those rare occasions in San Francisco where Mother Nature does not provide the airconditioning on her own. This is what we expect in late september, early october. Lets look at the weather pattern, the heat number definitely arrived. We can see plenty of sunshine this evening. Our temperatures are very warm across the entire bay area. Lets try to bring those hurt temperatures in, they are in the 80s and 90s. San franciscos downtown sensor, malfunctioning, the closest one registering 87 the top of the hour, 86 across the bay, and lets temperatures still in low 90s after topping at some locations in the mid90s this afternoon. All that sunshine, not a cloud in the sky, you know the solar panels across the bay area were just soaking up the sunshine, even with less than 12 hours of daylight. More of the same in store for friday, maybe a tiny bit of fog around the bay and along the coast to start saturday, but it wont last long. Plenty of sunshine, and still hot temperatures for saturday. Low temperature tonight, dropping down to a mix of mid and upper 50s and low 60s, with those autumn nights, plenty of time for heat to escape into space. We end up just slightly above average for morning lows on friday, then we warm up. Lets look how far temperatures are going to go, even a degree or two warmer than today, reaching into mid90s in the santa clara valley, even upper 90s around morgan hill, flirting with 100, but not quite there. Half moon bay, around 80 degrees downtown, the halfmoon airport up the coast was above 80 today, might be there tomorrow, but i focus on where people live at 90 degrees fremont and redwood city. Mid90s, even upper 90s inland the east bay, upper 80s once again for San Francisco and oakland, falling just short of 90 degrees with temperatures in the low to mid 90s in land in the north bay as well. Those temperatures, a good 15 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of year. Lets take a look at the heat risk as we categorize it for friday, which is still going to be high under heat advisory tomorrow, mainly around the south end of the bay and santa clara valley, moderate heat risk for much of the rest of the bay area. The high heat risk it appears saturday. Not a huge drop but enough to mitigate the heat rat of overexertion, and even the moderate heat rat largely disappears sunday. The place we are most likely to get into record territory tomorrow is san jose. Forecasting a record high of 96 degrees compared to the old record of 95 degrees. Other locations will be only a few degrees short of the early records friday. Same again saturday, with san jose being most likely to tie the record High Temperature of 94 degrees. This is not going to last forever. Take a look at the sevenday forecast, see the hot weather taking a bit of a break by sunday, then a big drop in temperatures early next week, only 70s for High Temperatures in land monday and tuesday, and there is a chance of rain showers in the forecast by late monday. Those temperatures will follow the same trend around the bay as well, seeing coolest readings in the forecast by monday and tuesday, and a better chance of rain showers closer to the bay and along the coast. Light activity, really the best chance overall will be for the north bay, but around the bay, no visibility issues anticipated for the blue angel display tomorrow. The exception to that , displays over the weekend might be on sunday. A chance of a few passing clouds, probably not a big deal. Coastal spots, enjoy the ones tomorrow, back to the 60s for much of next week. Still ahead, a surprising announcement from the biden administration, why they are waving more than 20 federal laws to build a wall along the u. S. Mexico border. You go to school, you learn a trade, find a good paying job, that is the path many of us were told to take. How this week, students rising above scholar is taking that to a new level for a deeply personal reason. Everything i do, i have made it so that they are my choices. Nothing that i do is somebody elses choice. In tonights students rising above, we introduce a mina benson. When most people graduate from college, they tend to focus on one job this month student writing about college is not most people. She is good at pretty much everything she does, currently juggling several jobs, and she would not have it any other way. For her, hard work is not a burden, but a privilege. Reporter step inside her mina bensons work space and you may notice a theme, paint, everywhere from her plastic gloves to her keyboards to her paintings. I love pink, i feel like it is a very warm and romantic color. I love to use colors that are very surreal, but also show a place that could be very real. Reporter it may look playful, but make no mistake, when it comes to her multiple jobs, hermina is all business. Everything that i do, i have made it so that they are my choices. Nothing that i do is somebody else s choice. Nothing i do is because i have to. People like me who have come from generational poverty or families that did not go to college, do not have opportunities, had to work very hard to get by . They did not have choices the same way i do. Reporter right now, hermina is double juggling five different jobs, she runs an online make a business called planet euphoria. I have had about 10,000 orders. I have got my Instagram Account organically to 25,000 followers. My tiktok account is at 75,000 followers. Reporter she is a legal recruiter for legal services, a First Response manager for the apartment complex where she lives, and also getting her masters degree. Next stop, law school. Sherry estrin is herminas boss and mentor. I dont think she knows fear. I really dont. I dont think this young woman knows fear, i have not seen it. And there is plenty she could have been afraid of. Reporter hermina grew up in roseland, an annex of the city of santa rosa. She went to Wesleyan University in connecticut, the first in her family to graduate college. It was not easy getting there. When youre a first generation low income student, there is always a block where every single time you get ahead, there is something you do not know, something you have to learn, another roadblock to overcome. Reporter one of those roadblocks, racial discrimination, something hermina says she has had to deal with her entire life. Because i have an intersectional identity, i had an afrolatina woman, a woman, a woman of color, i carry all those identities, and with me, i carry experiences, throughout college, different implement opportunities, in different spaces, i have to experience adversity because of that. She credits students rising above for helping her
