Two, and more tricky, push for humanitarian aid into the gaza communities Israeli Forces are ready to invade by ground after weeks of bombs took out buildings and infrastructure, United Nations reporting more than 1 Million People have fled homes. Its why we are seeing families amassing on the border with egypt unable to cross. President of the European Commission reminding the world palestinians are vulnerable to the people in power on their side of the line, terror group hamas. Palestinians are in need of humanitarian help and aid. They cannot pay the price of hamas barbarism. This war is causing tensions in other parts of the region, fighting intensifying around israels border with lebanon against hezbollah. President biden warned many days ago this could happen and he is telling us to be aware other outside actors are looking can take advantage and be vigilant, a warning he plans to repeat when he arrives in israel. Closer to home a week ago we met a 26yearold israeli grad student in the bay area. He was on a two Week Exchange program studying middle east when hamas attacked israel. His reality couldnt be more different. He is back in israel as idf reservist called to duty. Betty yu talked to him. Reporter do you have a vest on . No. I have my weapon. Most of my strength is from my family and my friends. Reporter his friends have also returned home from abroad to join the fight. Israel has called more than 360,000 reservists to active duty after hamas attack. Its one of the largest mobilizations in the countrys history. Are you scared . Of course. I dont want to die. Of course i would rather keep on my life, and i dont want to be scratched mentally, dont want to be hurt physically. I know this is not only about me. This is about the future of my people. More than three decades after the quake rocked the bay, we look at lessons learned. The 6. 9 shaker killed 63 and injured thousands and put thousands more out of their homes as hometowns reeled from 10 billion in damages. Your community station in one neighborhood shaken violently during the quake, Shawn Chitnis joins us from the Marina District where the lessons are still top of mind these decades later. Reporter reed, good morning. Certainly we know we have a lot more. We have more tools and resources in the Marina District. They felt it with collapsed buildings and fires in the neighborhood. Some essentials remain important. Thats what we will look at this morning especially as we are closer to the great california shake out on thursday. We asked ken to grab a cart and show us around where he works in Central Hardware to build a kit. The three main things are food, water, shelter. He created an extensive set considering all possible challenges. We never know whats going to happen. Reporter a tarp and rope as he works from isle to isle. Certainly having n95 masks will be useful. Deaf in italy having a good pair of sturdy heavy duty work gloves. There is going to be a lot of debris, a lot of rubble. You will have to clear it and you dont want to do it with your bare hands. To have a good pair of leather gloves. Reporter eye wear to protect yourself. You will be cleaning things up. Whether its a going al kind that can go over glasses or just safety glasses, its really a good idea. Reporter we quickly filled a cart as we made our way through the store. Fire extinguisher. Reporter first aid kits will be a necessary addition with an emergency radio and potential Power Sources to charge your phones. We are going to need flash lights. Lets not forget toilet paper, feminine hygiene, diapers, infant supplies. Reporter the total price for the supplies came out to be around 425. You dont need everything on kens list and certainly dont need it all at once. People may already have some of this and can put it together. Its also something you can build over time. Reporter you have this list that ken gave us. It is pretty thorough. As you saw, it certainly had a lot of items. The break down is good in that you have the idea of the essentials, what might be useful, and what is specific to you. Thats the approach he wants to pass to everyone. Maybe you have some of the items. You can certainly take your time to build the kit but it is something you want to constantly work on. Lets its put together and may last two years but you should go back and see if anything has expired. The great shake out is thursday. And the my shake app is also available. Back to you. Thanks for the list. Will you tweet that out so i can reference it . I will start buying one piece at a time because it can be expensive. Its not just enough to talk and think about it. You have to take the steps to be physically prepared. Whether thats stocking up on water, batteries, first aid, even practicing emergency aid. The smallest prep can save lives. Preparation is key. Joining us to go over prep and practices of an earthquake emergency is Public Information officer for sf fire department. Thank you for being here. Thanks for having me. This is top of mind for a lot of people because we get reminded every year when we see the anniversaries. We have a kit but its in a large bin. What do you recommend putting your bags in so you can take them out easily . It depends where you are. They recommend a go kit in various locations. If you are at work, you may have a bag to go real quick if you need to. If you are home, thats where the larger storage bin would be useful. And your car, if you wear heels, you may need tennis shoes, something in your trunk preferably. I didnt think about the car. Thats a good point. Tell me what that stands for and how you got into that. It was started after the earthquake. The residents of San Francisco realized they needed formal training to help each other. Because of the fact that after a certain Time Fire Department and Emergency Services will be busy responding to other emergencies within the city. So they decided nert, neighborhood Emergency Response team, is a series of classes that people in the community take. What they do is become nerts after they graduate. They take a few classes together and they are in charge of their certain neighborhood. Once they realize theyre okay in their home, they can survey the area in their neighborhood and they get together and help each other out. You know what the resources are in your neighborhood. Thats important as we look at building bridges in communities and informing how the neighbor may have a need you may be able to meet. Lets get real. How many people really have the kits . I know i dont. I know i should as a new transplant to the bay area. Do people have these or are we deficient . I dont know if there is a number that we can tally of how many people that have it. I think people have a lot of it but maybe not in one central location. We want people to realize it should be accessible. Take the time to slowly build it. We dont expect people to get it all at one time. But think that it can happen. Its not if. Its going to be when it does happen. Little by little, when you see the 425, thats a lot. Yes. We want people to chip away at it. Some things you can get ahead of time. We want people to be safe and take care of their families in an emergency. Love the reminder. Thank you so much. We appreciate it. I am going shopping. One for me, one for my neighbor. I will start and have it maybe by christmas. Good idea. Take your old tennis shoes, throw a tank top, a jacket, all these old items in a bag in your car because for the bay area weather you dont know what to expect either. So true. But you always need a jacket regardless especially in San Francisco. Lets start this morning throughout the bay area, we are nice and cool. Whats interesting about today is we have more clouds as we are waking up acting like a blanket keeping us a little bit warmer compared to yesterday. Low 60s in fremont, 50s and 60s from the bay bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge. I want to talk about whats to come around the corner. For now cloudy skies will fill the bay at times. It will clear a lot in inland areas into this afternoon. Really thats not the big weather story. Well see gusty conditions anywhere up to about 25 Miles Per Hour. A little bit of onshore flow bringing in clouds from our coastline into the evening hours. The change around the corner is another heat dome beginning to build. We are going to see temperatures above average into our wednesday and thursday forecast. Lets start with today. I will put the monitor down and we will head to our daytime highs. 70s today in San Francisco. Its not bad in the grand scheme of things. 75 oakland, upper 70s, 80s as we head in the east. 80s in fremont. Its not that bad of a forecast with the partly cloudy skies as we are waking up this morning into this afternoon. We have big changes around the corner. The heat dome i mentioned, i want to show you what thats going to look like. Today 80s, tomorrow 90s. It will feel and look different as you head out especially for our thursday set up no matter where you live in the bay area. We will see a lot of sunshine in inland areas and the heart of the bay too. Look what happens into the weekend. 90s dont last much longer. We are down to the upper 60s low 70s by saturday heading into sunday with a chance of showers in our inland areas as early as sunday. For the bay area, 70s today, 80s tomorrow, 90s thursday. Its like stair cases. You keep warming up day by day and we drop down fast like a slide into our weekend forecast. 60s around the corner. It will feel cooler and look a lot different too. Thank you. Lets look at the roadways now. If you are crossing bay area bridges like the golden gate, bay bridge, we are dealing with foggy spots. Think about that as you head out the door and give yourself extra time. Maybe grab that coffee and get going. You will want to give yourself time here especially maybe go slower than usual because of the fog we are seeing in bridges especially at the golden gate. You see it hovering over the span. It might be difficult to see the car in front of you. A lot of space between you and the car in front of you. It might be slick as well since it is foggy through there. This is the toll plaza. Its already backed up but pretty foggy for commute into San Francisco. We are tracking brake lights on 880. This is due to crash south as you work around 84. It seems like we get accidents often in and around the area. Take it easy as you head out of hayward into fremont. You are too soft to stand in front or take responsibility for anything you are doing. He is certainly not holding back. Trevor mays message on his way out for as owner john fisher. A live look outside before break. You are looking live outside fremont. This is the niles flying a social club, a fun place in the community to gather together for events. If you look, it almost looks like a throw back era. I like that nod 49ers head back on the road this weekend and we saw sunday a couple key players went down so they can be at less than full strength. Hopefully theyll get healthy. Vern glenn explains in the red and gold report. The 49ers will get extra day to prepare this week before facing vikings on monday night football. That means three of their key players also get an extra day to recover. Chris mccaffrey, rib, he is in mris so we are waiting on imaging. Samuels shoulder, day to day. Trent williams ankle, day to day. Williams finished on a sprained ankle. Deebo was injured on the first play and mccaffrey limited to one carry in the second. Adding insult to injury, moody missed the game winning feed goal. Fans were thinking this is why they should have resigned robbie gold but moodys team has his back. I will never put that on him to say we lost because of him. I always look to myself first to see what i could have did better and defensively as a group. Its going to sting. If we have to do it again, we will trust in jake again. Jake has done a great job all year. We will continue to believe in him. It is what it is. I am vern glenn. 6 26 in the morning. Ticktock on taxes but the clock got an extension for the filing. How long you now have to even up with uncle sam.
