We are just doing it with optimism and hoping that if we can bring back a million oysters they will be selfsustaining and today is one step towards the goal. In the slew they will not be harvested. Their role to filter water, stabilize the shoreline and provide habitat for other creatures. All big benefits as the planet warms. So it is really important that we help to restore this population. Reporter first stop, the hatchery at moss landing marine laboratories. We have baby individual oysters. Reporter here, they are borrowed from the slew to breed babies that will go back to the slew. In the hatchery we can control a lot of the environment and make sure that those little babies make it through to being juveniles. Reporter they require tender loving care. Microalgae for food, the right temperatures and plenty of freshwater. They are very needy and very dirty. So, they are really fun to take care of but they need a lot of attention. Reporter when ready they will attach to hard surfaces including these large clam shells. We actually collect in the slew. They carefully gather the oyster shells. Puts them in special mesh bags and packs them in a cooler. Next stop, the slew where the scientists and volunteers are ready to jump into action. They need a lot of help. I believe that Natural Habitats should be maintained. Reporter the work is unusual. Yes. How many baby oysters are alive on these clam shells. Reporter they record the data and secure them to a pipe. Once all of the oysters are counted and secured and tagged, about 80,000 babies, the rubber booted volunteers go down. Please just check the zip ties they are locked. Here they form a brigade and pass the pipes down to the scientists who plant them into the muddy goop and low title waters of the marsh. On my watch i dont want to see the oyster disappear. Eight degrees above average, reaching up to the middle 80s the temperatures saturday, sunday, bouncing back to near or above 80 degree temperatures possible by monday or tuesday and back down to a near or below average temperature pattern heading through the last full week of october. Hard to believe we are talking about that. The cooler air that arrives over the weekend will have a chance of showers. It is a lower chance than 24 hours ago but it has not gone away entirely. That is a huge drop in temperatures just over the course of 24 hours. Lets take a look at the forecast as we head through the next several days, the extended forecast does include the drop of temperatures inland dropping down to the lower 70s saturday and sunday. We have that little surge in temperatures, it will not be hot monday and tuesday. Just a few degrees above average to start off next week. Finally getting back to near average temperatures, how about that . By wednesday and thursday. A similar trend around the bay. The warm up will be not as noticeable. We are back to the near normal temperatures by wednesday and thursday. Slightly better chance of showers showing up on sundays forecast, same thing, along the coast. Again, the showers will be hitormiss. Tell not be an all day wash out. Whefn you have the best chance of rain. Dont cancel anything outdoors, the warm up, monday, tuesday, not noticeable at all along the coast the temperatures returning to the 60s after we spent a couple days in the 70s today and yesterday.
