Now this is one of the polling places at San Francisco city hall that is open until 8 00 tonight. You need to turn in your ballot by then or be in line to vote by 8 00. And work is underway to count all of those votebymail ballots. This camera gives us a behindthescenes look at the process going on in San Francisco. Mailin ballots need to be postmarked by today. But california allows 30 days for mean we dont know the results of some races for days even weeks. 2,000 poll workers were hired across the county. Officials are expecting a turnout of 45 to 55 , on the lower end of the normal range. California is one of 15 states voting for President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Theyre the clear front run ors, while more than a third of the delegates are up for grabs. Neither can clinch the nomination tonight. Joe biden wins the democratic president ial primary. And oklahoma, massachusetts, maine, arkansas, and alabama. They project former President Donald Trump wins the republican president ial primary in virginia. North carolina, tennessee, oklahoma, maine, massachusetts, arkansas, and alabama. So the most interesting contest in california happens to be the race to fill the senate seat held by the late dianne feinstein. Split between adam schiff from burbank, katie porter from irvine, and barbara lee from oakland. But the l. A. Dodger, steve garvey is raising the rare possibility of a democrat, republican faceoff in november. Katie nielsen is live in hollywood, watching the results tonight. Good evening, katie. And just a couple of hours from now. If you take a look over here, you can actually see the interest in this race. The media set up just waiting to see what is going to happen tonight. The reason there is so much attention on this race, adam schiff has been a front runner ever since he was had endorsed last year. That allowed him in the race including the fellow democrats. Californias primary is different than most that the top two vote getters will move forward, which could mean they could face off against each other. Here is what schiff had to say about him. And he is not pretending to be and he is very right wing and he will never support the reproductive freedoms or stand up to the nra. What to do about a ceasefire or what to do about certain elements of the economy. He lacks specifics, but that has not hurt him in the primaries, as they slice and dice that while they will stay whole. And now he could have an easier time winning the general election in november against the republican. Thats because the last time they won a statewide office was back in 2006 when governor Arnold Swarzenegger was reelected. Now schiff does have some bay area ties. He graduated from Monte Vista High School and then went to stanford before going on to law school in harvard. He was first elected back in 2001 to represent burbank here in southern california. But he really didnt become a known figure on a National Stage until he was involved with the first trump impeachment proceedings. Juliette . All right, katie, well see you. The race includes former san jose mayor sam liccardo, and Assembly Member evan lowe. Now former Software Executive and marine officer, Peter Dickson has raised the most money. So the only statewide proposition on the ballot is prop one. The 6. 3 billion bond measure is a key part of governor Gavin Newsoms plan to create drug and Mental Health treatment beds. It would overhaul how they battle the homeless crisis, but they claim it diverts billions away from already effective Mental Health services. San Francisco Mayor london breed cast her vote at city hall today, backing three measures on the ballot, designed to address some of the citys most pressing problems including the drug crisis and crime. It is about being responsible with Public Safety and making sure that we have the resources that are necessary to address the challenges that were brought up in San Francisco. The big measures to watch included prop c, which would eliminate the transfer tax for converting properties from offices to housing. Prop e would expand Police Powers in the use of Surveillance Technology and car chases. And prop f would require drug testing for adults getting cash assistance from the city if they are suspected drug users. There are some key issues that they need to hit the ground running on. What are some of them, i guess, right out the gate . Yeah, exactly. The seat has been held by cindy chavez for more than a decade. But san jose is facing a 250 million deficit and a nearly 1 million housing bond. Well one bay area Grocery Store worker did just that and got fired for it. The judge ruled she did nothing wrong. Reporter safeway fired a 22year employee for violating their shoplifting policy. A judge ruled she was only doing her job. Antoinette baez works at this Safeway Store and her attorney said she knew the companys policy about not touching or pursuing people trying to shoplift. She had it drilled into her and she knew you dont do that. She was also told tho shall not steal. Reporter she noted a woman with about 500 in groceries at the selfcheckout machines. She offered to help her, but was refused. Later after clocking out, she noticed the woman was trying to leave without paying and tried to stop her by holding on to the bags she was carrying. But it comes at a cost to all of us because we are all going to pay the higher prices. And it will come down to all of us. If you are stealing 500 worth of groceries once a week, you actually make more money that night person that safeway has fired. It makes more sense to steal from safeway than to work for safeway.
