Katie nielsen spoke with the victims mother about what she wants to see happen. Reporter lori moz was never active in politics. A year ago, everything changed but that is when her son, blake, was murdered, here at the home depot in pleasanton while he was working as a Loss Prevention officer. Since then, she says, the recall campaign took on an entirely new meaning. It has been almost exactly one year since lori lost her son, blake. It was april 18th of last year, when he was shot and killed during an attempted shoplifting. It feels like yesterday, or like 10 years ago. That moment where your heart stops and you think, this cant. Yesterday a plea deal was struck in the case. Alicia naps agreed to plead guilty t2 Second Degree murder, which carries a sentence of 19 years to life in prison. The person driving the getaway car, 32yearold David Guillory pleaded guilty to being an accessory, as well as other charges. His sentence could be around 7 1 2 years. There is that moment, which happens, when youve got it. And you can breeze. Reporter lori says she pushed for the plea deal because it cannot be appealed, and more importantly, because it brings closure to their family. She says, over the past year, her family has been fighting with the Alameda County das office to get appropriate charges filed against the suspects. They erased his future. Why would i have to fight for justice for him . Reporter it is part of the reason why she has been an outspoken advocate trying to get District Attorney pamela price recalled from office. I voted for her, and made a mistake. She is not doing anything for victims except revictimizing them. She doesnt help them. She doesnt give any details as to how to get justice for the family. She just looks out for the people that did it. Reporter lori says at this point, she is relieved to have the case behind her so they can move on. She hopes the same will happen for the suspects. My goal for them in this, is that the time they will serve, they make it productive, right . They get job skills, they find their faith, they find a redeemed life for their kids. Reporter while both suspects have agreed to the plea deal, their sentencing is scheduled for june the sixth. We have a request to the das Office Asking for more information about the case but we have not yet heard back. In the meantime, price previously accused recall organizers of having ulterior motives. We know that this recall is not about public safety. We have their campaign plan. This campaign plans is that they are concerned with the value of their portfolios. Real estate developers. Meanwhile in San Francisco, a brief manhunt is now resolved after deputies say an inmate escaped from a room at San Francisco general hospital. That man was being held in the hospitals joel ward when he climbed the to the ceiling just before 10 00 this morning, sending deputies on a frantic search. He was caught not long after the escape. The Sheriffs Office says, based on the quick action of deputies, they were able to thwart any possible escape by immediately locating the suspect within a secure area of the facility, where he eventually surrendered, peacefully. Following ongoing protest calling for a ceasefire in gaza, these protest happening on College Campuses nationwide, including uc berkeley, where a protesters set up dozens of tents on the steps of sprawl plaza. They are calling this a gaza solidarity encampments. Protesters are demanding the school divest from companies that have ties to the israeli military, and to cut the Study Abroad Program there.
