Here in las vegas, the big question remains why. why this 64yearold man, a retired accountant, with no known criminal history, a man whose neighbors described him as a quote gentle giant, chose to come here, check into this hotel, and open fire on 22,000, killing at least 59. A day after the deadliest mass shooting in modern us history, authorities are learning more about the man who fired into a crowd of thousands from a hotel room high above a Country Music festival. Police believe Stephen Paddock killed himself before they could enter his room, ending the massacre. Police found at least 19 firearms, explosives, several thousand rounds of ammunition in his home in mesquite, nevada. And in his room at the mandalay bay resort and casino, they found 23 weapons, including a handgun, and multiple rifles and several pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used to make explosives, in his car. After the massacre, people lined up to give blood lights were dimmed on the vegas strip after the tragedy. And across the country, vigils were held for those killed and injured in the attack. While the victims recount their stories of survival. Addison short shot in the leg during shooting spree me and my friend turned around and just started running. She looked back and my knee gave out. Kron fours Spencer Blake is live in las vegas this morning. Spencer, youve been talking to some bay area survivors of the shootings. What did they share with you . spencer they were right in the thick of it all, and they said everyone had instincts to move when they heard the shots, but it was hard to know where to go. Two men i spoke to, were lucky to find a hiding place. When bullets started flying, brett eastwood, like many others, thought some drunk person was shooting off fireworks. But he knew things were more serious than that when country star jason aldean ran off the stage. The second round goes off, we hear it again, the same noise, and then next thing you know we start to see people get hit and hit the ground. And you could tell this was the real deal. This was actually a shooting going on. Unbelievable experience that we saw this. Before the shooting started, one of his friends, misha usunov from danville, had just separated from their group to get closer to the stage. Then the chaos began, with people running in all directions, trying to figure out which way was the best option. Everywhere we went that we thought might be safe, there was somebody else hit there. We moved to one spot, another spot someone was hit there. The next spot, someone was hit there. It was really hard just knowing you have to make a decision to just take a step to the right, a step to the left, and if you take the wrong step it could be your last. Finally they were able to hide under some bleachers. Usunov thought about calling Family Members, but instinctively started recording on his phone. He heard people calling out for loved ones, and he saw people trying to help otherswho were likely already dead. We hid in an apartment across the street, about thirty of us. Some guy was taking people in. Everyone in usunov and eastwoods groupwas okay, at least physically. A bay area woman on a vegasbound flight monday had originally planned to be at that jason aldean concert. Kids and friends were like, please are you there . Did you go . No we didnt go. They will compete against seven other Bay Area High School bands. It is a covetted invitation that band director kent johnson has long hoped to bring to his program. Yet most of his students were unaware of just what that invitation meant. It was a dream but i never talked to about with the kids because i didnt want them to get excited about something and the we not attend. When our band director told us that we were actually a band that got selected few of us knew just what that was. The bands surprise at being selected was met with their delight. I think it was amazing that cal high was selected to be in this event and i think we deserve it because we have been working so hard. I never thought that i could be on such a stage that i would have a few thousand people watching me. For those seniors this serves as a touch stone for their years in the band. Its my last year here and i think its a great opportunity for me to leave with. Band members have embraced the challenge with a youthful enthusiasm as they face the competition.
