Firefighters obviously trying to. A fight against a comeback before this burns any bigger what we see and lets go under will tran a hes live in raw. The one thing complicating the whole thing is that these poor residents had been plunged into darkness before the fire even broke out so theyre trying to find their way around and power to get out of the neighborhood. No street lights at all as well because pg had cut off the power about an hour before the fire started so there was no power. Running through the lines. James talked about that breezy conditions let me show you video of the fire. It was around according to cal fire going about 15 Miles Per Hour or so at the time of the fire a little bit gusty but according to them nothing out of the ordinary the fire happened at a very dry remote area along a ridge line and the fire raced to the left and the right of the ridge line going downhill. Ndhas why they were forced evacuate about a 140 people we did talk to a lot of people and they said they got a call a robo call to evacuate their home holmes were not hearing of any injuries or any fatalities at this time or any of the homes damaged or destroyed, but it is still obviously dark at this time, so firefighters have not been able to fully look at the landscape. Saint marys was in the path way, but it appears same areas was never truly threatened at this particular time a lot of people daria you mentioned they had to race down. The hill in complete darkness, fortunately we could see any car crashes from people is just chaotic le leaving their homes, it looks like it was orderly people know this is wildfire season and they live in an area surrounded my dry cnce to talk to some of the people who were evacuated. Heres what one person had to say about it. And suddenly there was just this insanely large smell smoke and obviously once we got down here. And james dairy according to cal fire the fire is in fact still burning but they have been able to knock down the huge flames, its far from control they said it was at least 60 containing contain basically means sets their effort to try to corral it to circle the flames, so i wont spread so not being a 100 , yes, its still making progress which is why cal fire. Its still along the ridge line but the good news is they did cancel some of their bulldozers and theyre letting their hand crews. Do a lot of the fighting on the ridge line and once the sun comes up, they will send more crews in their own obviously it is so dark and they dont want any firefighters injured, especially with the heavy lifting a lot of it done already they dont want any additional firefighters out there being injured. No air support being called at this particular time. Theyre going to tell people go head start to go back to their ums but they will more than likely be escorted because they dont want people to be injured. And you can see think that the headlights right behind me those are the cars. They in the middle of the night had to calm down this area. But it looks like now theyre heading back here and some of the checkpoints it appears james and darya are being lifted back to benefit of have. Having already gotten their go kids together because they knew the power its going to be shut off. Well so the problem. Thats unusual when a fire breaks out. Yes theyve been watching the news i did talk to so those people and they did watch the news and they were fully prepared that they would be in the dark starting at around midnight, so they knew what was going on and they had their cell phone starts because a couple of people i spoke to said they got the call it wasnt the knock at the door it was a robo call from the nearby agencies telling them about the fire and they were able to get out in an orderly fashion. The Sheriffs Department firefighters they took over this area, its was slow and go getting through here because of so many checkpoints and we had they even talk to the firefighters to say let us get closer to talk to the command center. He said we wont let you because we dont want anybody injured, but we said we want to pass along the information and thats how we were able to talk to firefighters about pg e taking out power now about the conditions of the wind at this particular time but look at that area, nobody speeding anymore. Yes, there are more rs on the roadway at 5 oclock they need i would imagine on a typical day. But it looks like now. People can start a brief little bit are. Thanks a lot. Well. Well lets talk more about those people that ready to go at a moments notice this more with kron 4 Sarah Stinson shes actually live for us at the Evacuation Center at saint Monicas Church in morocco. Sarah. Inside the church and this is whereuation centers. Its actually pitch black inside have all supplies, got blankets and. Im here live rd and her daughter eva. You told me when you lef your house it was just crazy because you saw all the smoke and members yeah. There is right on the house side right behind our back yard from what we understand and entire. I was just filled up and like orange and red. Us and the smoke was i mean just that it was crazy, i mean my feet are late. It got pretty close to. And some of the fences i heard from the police chief were destroyed in a poll sheds so they got pretty close to home houses on that back line. I mean we literally just grabbed the kids has and our keys and left so. Yeah were so thankful that everything is. And everyone is safe and its just like and from that ariel stopped and you know that was damaged and not even really about every day were just flying into the kind of art. And thank you guys so for joining us stay warming. Now getting everything they they need its important to mention a police has told us that. Anybody on say in the Sanders Ranch neighborhood should stay of that waited. Live in the Sanders Ranch neighborhood. But those who live sand or ranch neighborhood day have to stay here theyre just standing by waiting here update from firefighters for now, im live in Sarah Stinson kron sarah so unusual to see. A center that people are supposed to go have no lights on and thats the odd thing. And i think it was very odd for people who had to grow and theres things in the dark talked to one woman earlier in the 4 oclock hour. She could turning on the lights and that they would go on to choose and japan. I actually forgot. All right, thank you very much there and of course were watching the winds because thats the big driver the fire this morning at how quick little spread hopefully pfeiffers able to get handle on in full containment before gets any bigger tell john. He woke up without. Notice the way noticed when i stepped outside yeah, the wind was actually born a lot stronger than was when i went to bed, yeah it really picked up ernight eyes and that was when this fire actually did break out which why that was why there was so much concern surrounding it is still very breezy out there across the east bay, san ramon right now 27 mile per hour winds. Brett what call to my also checking in with those winds will stand out of the way of that merrill fire burning in rugged of course crews gaining the upper hand on it now containment at 70 this is certainly good news at the time the blaze broke out we are looking at wind speeds gusting into the 30 to 10 Miles Per Hour range depending on where in the vicinity of the fire youre talking about and you could see those embers blowing around neighborhoods right there. So thats why crews responded so fast and thank good they did looks like residents. Theyre certainly happy that this containment numbers are jumping up into the north bay. We are also looking at still some very strong winds president care fairfax down on mill valley in sandra fell all looking at wind speeds well up into the 20 mile per hour range Stinson Beach look at that right along the coast 34 Miles Per Hour we saw wind speeds last night gusting as high as 70 Miles Per Hour atop mount diablo and mount saint helene of these are peak wind gusts across the but as you do see mixing up rring in the aospher toward sunrise. We could see the occasional dipping of some pretty strong winds closer to the surface. And thats why we do have extreme fire danger continuing in these red yellow contours especially noteworthy in the north bay, but also for portions of the east bay too so crews are taking this fire potential very seriously not just through the morning but well on into the afternoon as the combination of factors, those high winds dry humidity are low humidity and dry tender does continue a windy conditions resulting in wind advisories tell 03 00pm including in theinityof the merrill fire burning in moraga and then of course the red flag warnings that we also have across the bay area that remain in effect today, intel, 05 00pm more coverage still to come back to you. All right, thank you john want to check in on highway one oh one because we had a little brush fire that broke out in corte madera southbound want to want to pious drive the fires out its under control, but the 2 right lanes are still close by fire crews. So thats going to impact your commute traveling from the north bay to the golden gate into San Francisco once again the fires out under control theyre putting out the hot spots and cleaning up, but the 2 right lanes are still closed so youll see a brief slowdown as you pass through the scene after that its going to be a great trip to the golden gate at 18 minutes novato to the toll plaza, getting busy at the bay bridge toll plaza, no major crash ashes or stalls 13 minutes with the growing back of that starting to spill to west grand so youre still from west grand through the tolls up the incline well check more purchase and drive times coming up. Very much want to take a closer look at that pg e outage map that weve been showing you yesterday and show you so far this morning and this is the map by the way that a lot of people been having a hard time getting too because it keeps crashing. But while we have it up we wanted to at least give you a quick little tour. Its particularly the east bay in the south bay and talk more about where were seeing some of these outages this morning focusing in on walnut creek and you can see weve got a nice section here of a walnut creek. Just to the watch up towards Pleasant Hill where weve got Power Outages and of course a long 24. This is that area where we had that fire a breakout a moroccan you can see a lot of lafayette right now seen Power Outages across a good bit of town and as the map slide you can see moraga now coming into view there Saint Marys College and all of the surrounding area now in that. Intentionally potential blackout right this is these are the areas in hot pink were pg e has intentionally shut off the power and thats where were seeing a lot of that portion of the east bay in the dark right now course thats where aga theres a renda want to slide the map down a little bit further, heres Castro Valley to kind of depends on where you are a downtown Castro Valley are fine, but as you head in towards the crow canyon area. Thats where youre seeing a lot of these blackouts occur right now in the car so this is a lot more rugged right along crow canyon road. If youve ever driven that section, you know its awfully windy with very steep hills on either side lots of vegetation and thats been the big worry a lot of these areas where were seeing the blackouts are either in areas that are a lot more rugged or communities that of a better bet, but right up towards its of the diablo range another area where were seeing levees blackouts and as we slide the map shell see that as you make your way down 6. 80 and then along 6 asia towards milpitas youre also seeing up in the hills to more areas that are in these a blackout conditions. The timing again weve got to stress this the timing for wind power will re be returning is going to depend on the head how remote your community is closer towards urban centers. Those areas will probably see their lights turned back on a lot quicker, but as head closer towards Regional Park land and out into the hills, a little more its going take a little while longer does pg e has to inspect all of the power lines that are out there and slowly roll those can communities back in line. And so again as we head towards the south you can see just south of cupertino south that area, were looking at. Well Stevens Creek at good bit of that now in the dark on that in valley. Were also seeing the same situation there in here as we slide over towards the eastern side of a san jose out towards alum rock heading out towards the Lick Observatory for instance, were looking at conditions again where a lot of these communities that are nestled up in the hills are in the dark this morning so were going to continue to give you a tour throughout the morning. And a highlight some of the areas were still seeing Power Outages that expected to last at least through the day today, wpal around james right over your shoulder thats where kron fours christina is right now. Now in that neighborhood san jose where people are going to be waking up without power. A power shut off rally when or after they went to bed last night christina. Yeah, theyre definitely going to be waking up in the dark driving all throughout this area we just have miles upon miles of residential neighborhoods with absolutely no power no life honestly to be seen for quite a few miles down the hill a little bit. I would say probably about 2 or 3 miles down the road you see some whites but anything up here in the residential areas completely closed off. As james had mentioned to kind of these foothill areas the darker and darker it gets and now this is an area that was also impacted last night a lot of people going to bed as you had mentioned are it who didnt know if theyd be waking up with power. Im not lot of people anticipating the shut off. Throughout the day around 08 00pm but then it kind of lingered on throughout the night with white and lo and behold there definitely could be waking up in the dark here. This was something that happened yesterday a lot of on back and forth on the timing of when this. You know shut off was going to happened when this power outage was going to hapaen, you know we can definitely say here in alum rock area. Power outage ahead. Definitely head and actually Santa Clara County has officially declared a state of emergency a local state of emergency due be shut off. Analysts impacted a lot of the School District in the area as well as some local Community Colleges as well here that tape, you know they are not even going to have their emergency resources because of the power outage that something thats not going to be available. However this entire area because of all of the back and forth talk with pg me and all the news outlets in here sharing this information a lot of people here in the area had and luckily some time yesterday to prepare for this get their emergency bags ready a lot of people shopping a lot of the supermarkets and. You know corner stores. Now out of a lot of supplies and we actually spoke with one young gal whos getting ready for this herself. We can meet the kids in the future. If we cant do few others. So we need a size need to do more. So the city of san jose actually held a series of press conferences yesterday very much preparing to residents for this you know getting a lot of options of what people and residents can in. Some Resource Centers set up provided by the city throughout the entire area if they need any type of emergency assistance. Something honestly as simple as charging your phone they have that available also the soccer stadium is going to be letting people in force and resources as well. The city of san jose actually also does have an open website were going make sure to share that all with you over on kron 4 dot com as well so youre here in the san jose area and you need to know about some resources or if youre in a neighboring county, and you dont have those as well you can come in charge your phone is if this is impacting you as well and also like to reiterate one statement that james had mentioned when it comes to your power coming back on that is ever changing information depending on exactly where you live. So were going make should also keep you updated with that as throughout the next 2 days, reporting live in san Jose Christina tetreault kron 4 news.
