Slow you down even more and you could see it backed up into the burlingame area and north one oh one is also backed up so avoid the stretch if you can this morning, even though crews are trying to clear that first accident 2. 80 is going to just flawless so far this morning, its been a problem free even El Camino Real that runs parallel with the one o one looks good as well for your alternate taking a quick peek at the bay bridge toll plaza it is been problem for here all morning long only 11 minutes on your west penn 80 commute from the macarthur maze across the upper deck in to San Francisco john. Working out there today is a clear skies looking at the horizon, no fog whatsoever across the bay area right now definitely some cloud cover though that will be hanging out across the bay area today cloud cover a part of this system that is going to be bringing rain to both central and Southern California here in the bay area though working remain try to the weekend. 40s and 50s for your current temperatures with Oakland Hayward redwood city and san matteo in the 40s right now, San Francisco berkeley in the 50s. Well fairfield are only spot in the 30s a much more mild start to the day than what we have been saying by the time we work our way into the afternoon a warmer day than what we have been seeing as well look at that mid 70s, inland low 70s by the coast and bay. James all right. Thank you john to our top story this morning in just a few hours from now oakland city leaders will be addressing the public about its decision. To fire police chief Anne Kirkpatrick and that decision to fire her was unanimous between the mayor and the members of the Police Commission kron fours will tran live in the city of oakland with the latest well. We are in front of city hall and we will carry that News Conference for you live when it happens as far as Ann Kirkpatrick she been on the job for 3 years. It was a sudden surprising and swift decision by the Police Commission to fire her they had a closed door meeting yesterday with mayor libby shaft unanimously decided to fire her without cause there was nothing that led up to it, although there had the years of friction between the commission as well as the police chief the police chief is oaklands First Female Police officer and when she was hired 3 years ago, she was the 4th Police Officer in the span of 7 months because of a allegations investigation involving a teenage girl and many of the Police Officers in oakland and thats why she was brought in to clean things up but throughout the years theres been a lot of friction between the commission and her including 2 years ago when 5 oakland Police Officers opened fire on an unarmed man the commission and swell as many in the community, one of those Police Officers at the very least fired. But instead they say kirkpatrick protected these officers, heres side. The Police Commission as well as the mayor talking about their decisions. Wasnt enough. Leadership and so that we needed new leadership for oakland, its my duty as the mayor to recognize the role and authority of this commission. And also to recognize when the trust between the Police Commission and the police chief has become irrevocably broken. Will prevent this city from moving forward. The way the laws are written in Oakland Robin in james the Complaints Commission could have done that and it is made up of civilians, they could have decided to fire her but it never would have happened without the approval, a mayor libby schaaf so now the assistant police chief will be the interim police chief has shop continues to look for another police chief to run oakland in the meantime she is technically on the job still because there is a letter that she has to sign to agree whether or not of the decision to terminate her and if she does agree to that. She will be paid approximately 270,000 thats her annual salary again when it happens as far as the new com News Conference we will carry that live for you back to you. All right, thank you very much well now the oakland Police Officers association is releasing a statement regarding kirkpatrick firing. You see on the screen reads in part the oakland Police Officers association stands ready to work with whomever is our next police chief. Despite the changes at the top the department oakland Police Officers continue to come to work every day and serve our residents in californias most crime challenge city. Well theres been a lot of contention with the former police chief and from members of the Oakland Community with specifically how she handled. A Police Shooting that happened nearly 2 years ago. Well 4 oakland Police Officers opened fire on a homeless man, 31 yearold joshua pollack she died back on march 11th of 2018. So theres a lot of criticism about that particular shooting. Some folks say that it was unjustified because pollack appear to be just waking up and there didnt seem to be much of a threat to the officers now at the time kirkpatrick declined to discipline those officers and that spark a lot of outrage within the community some calling for her to be fired last year. Well of course is a developing story that were following for you so coming up at 8 oclock this morning, oakland city leaders will hold a press conference well talk a little more about the firing of whats going on will tran will be there live covering that story for you and can also find more details on our website as well as reaction at kron 4 dot com. All right. We have some breaking news to tell you about a 6 oh 6 this morning, partly a bear roaming in the neighborhood in los angeles county, heres some live pictures from our sister station ktla down in los angeles you can see this is a residential area the bear spotted about 2 30 this morning roaming around this neighborhood in monrovia and you can see a police there now that was spotted at one point circling around somebodys front lawn and then laying down for a bit then getting up and moving off and every time it spotted. It seems to move off before police could arrive to the wherever that scene is a but here you can see them canvassing the neighborhood there is an Elementary School nearby. Now depending on where this is in monrovia it may not be which is by the way northeast of la kind of up near pasadena just to the east a pack of pasadena. I think theres a bear spot. A sighting was in the middle of the screen. Its hard for me to make up for my Vantage Point but towards the top middle of the screen. Maybe all the point make it out. But this is kind of right near monrovia park which is sort of on the southern edge of the Angeles National forest, so its not surprising that every now and then you might get wildlife coming down into the populated right there in the middle of the screen. The camera sort of slowly pushing in and kind of make out the shadowy figure. A large bear so not something you typically d c every day in a residential neighborhood but as folks are waking up there. There certainly waking up to kind of a kind of a scare but well keep an eye on the story keep you updated as police try and relocate this bear to someplace a little safer for it. That was rebecca youre talking about that hot spot that we saw on southbound 1, 1, thats still sort of affecting traffic and we had another crash in that same area thats of course not going help your commute whats its been a mess, im socalled hot spot because the backup is so bad and that second accident is still there though all lanes are clear though for our first hot spot that was upbeat how the accident that happened just before the 2 oclock hour this morning that had only one lane out of the 5 open to traffic. So lanes are back open chp did a cat everything cleared just about 10 minutes or so ago which is what they wanted they wanted it reopen right around 6 oclock and thats exactly what we got, but you can see traffic still heavily impacted out of burlingame trying to get into san mateo because traffic is in the recovery stage is. And yes there is that second accident that im tracking in the back up here and thats near the poplar avenue exit. So that is still causing backups because the far right lane is still shut down by chp for that crash is still in the meantime to 80s going to be our best bet even El Camino Real that also runs a parallel with one oh one. Then you can jump back on the 92 and they get back over to the san mateo area that way so that is going to be a good alternate for you in the meantime until traffic is fully recovered this morning metering lights were turned on just after 6 oclock this morning. Were not looking too bad as far as the drive time goes youre backed up just 2 about the foot of the macarthur maze right now but 11 minutes to make your way across the upper deck of the bay bridge. In the San Francisco. Thats really good for this hour the morning. Its packed here the san mateo bridge looking at those cars in the right hand side, your screen. But traffic is moving and im tracking about a 17 minute commute for you on your westbound 92 right over to one on one. Well thats a look at traffic, lets a check of the weather with jobs. The s rebecca we are looking at some clear skies looking out across the day. But if you do look up youre gonna notice. Some cloud cover today. San francisco just one of many spots that is under for fog free conditions to kick off this friday morning you can see that cloud cover showing up here in stormtracker 4 zooming out across the region what we do have to our south of some shower activity thats going begin pushing into the Central Coast on into the evening tonight and then inundating the rest of the state excluding northern come tomorrow morning. So theres your Central Coast showers overnight tonight making their way into tomorrow central and Southern California looking at some light rainfall by no means a drought buster here but enough rain to help the situation out areas like la san diego on the central valley, which is now under moderate drought southern sierra getting some snowfall but not so much for taco but the bay area also going to be remaining dry through the weekend. Now it does look like the end of february is going to continue to be on this dry trend with next week the last week of february remaining dry now sunday, not this upcoming sunday, but the following one next weekend. It is march 1st and it looks like march 1st at least as of right now does by bring our best chance of rainfall a year extended forecast. Thats still a long ways away but i do hope to see some rainfall arriving towards march. And i think we could definitely use a lot of come next month as for temperatures today. Do expect upper 60s to low 70s montero 63 for your high with daly city in half moon bay. Each in the low 70s. Low 70s to upper 60s as well on the bay side of the peninsula.
