Education leaders are preparing children across the state to distance learned for the rest of the school year. The state superintendent for public instruction Tony Thurmond is hoping the Distance Learning will accelerate everyones education. He unveiled specific guidelines on distancelearning for district leaders. California is also providing additional webinars and resource teachers as well. Will be providing a women are that is focus on how to provide special education through Distance Learning. I like to thank all those who are helping to put it together our special education workforce, california teachers association, the staff of the California Department of education in the state board of education for coming forward to help us answer a question is not been answered in this way before how do we deliver special education through Distance Learning more than 5,000 people have signed up mostly educators to hear about best practices about lesson plans about modules for how we deliver special education. Well a lot of parents and students are wondering about Summer School but the state hasnt yet made any decisions about Summer School signups or requirements. The Governor Also Announced an Important Partnership with google that will help Distance Learning not sprayed Distance Learning to all 6 Million Students in california google will be offering 100,000 free wi fi hotspots and will also donate 4,000 chromebooks for at least 3 months. The governor says about 20 of california students do not have access to the internet or devices to get them online. And thats a problem the San Francisco Unified School District Attorney Says that thousands of its students are having to borrow laptops to begin Distance Learning. The district has distributed more than 5200 laptops to students grades 3 through 12. But it estimates that may need to distribute another 5,000 over the next week. All schools in the city have been closed since march 16th the district says teachers are preparing to begin distancelearning on april 13th. Well not everybody is on board with learning from home some parents of students in the san jose Unified School District say that their children are not receiving enough assignments and theyre worried that their kids will fall behind with the lack of formal education during the shelter in pay place.
