Defund Police have been heard all across the u. S. How the city of oakland is taking steps to do just that. A controversial decision by governor
Gavin Newsome of the next several days. Thousands of inmates from prisons like san quentin could be released welcome back everyone the time is 8. 29, im
Robin Winston good morning, everybody on
Marty Gonzales is go ahead and check in with days far for the forecast friday morning a robin marty good morning everybody live shot coming in from san jose state as we take a look at the nice blue skies taken hold here. Were going to be seeing that everywhere but still working on some fog around the immediate they to be continued. Tomorrow with this little week low overheads providing that on shore flow a little bit also complements some daytime heating happening in land it would draw that in temperatures are pretty much in the 50s and 60s mixture antioch the exception as it was all this morning, somebody one now 64 for conquered east bay shoreline lower 60s, 56,
San Francisco in 61 for san jose. Now the future wins here they are boom this afternoon and into the evening actually you can see a far east over the east bay hills and lingering actually pretty late at night. And well probably see that keep temperatures supported in places like fairfield to tomorrow morning potentially for today without overcast sky appearance, were probably seeing along the coast as well, 82 by high noon to 3 oclock at about 90. Coming up a little bit well have the 4 zone forecast for you we do have lots of 90s on the board but not everybody is going to and still plenty of upper 80s to marty back to you. All right dave, thanks a lot, lets get to a big story. Were following this thursday morning
Governor Newsom says that california is hoping to speed up the release of thousands of inmates in california state prisons. Its all because of the coronavirus kron fours will tran live at san quentin this morning. And he sort it all out for us will. Its a controversial decision by
Governor Newsome he knows all about it. But he says he has to car room within the prisons. So they can have social distancing to slow down coronavirus throughout the prison system which he says is a hotbed for coronavirus and he has the numbers to prove it at san quentin 464 inmates actually already tested positive for coronavirus and that number could explode unless he acts according to him very quickly. He wants the inmates release over the next week possibly even sooner. The reason being because right now there are about 3800 cases of coronavirus within the prison system with 1800 cases out there that still need to be tested. And because theres no social distance in prison as much as they would like to. Let me give you an example there are places no doubt about it there are places within the prison where the inmates can be isolated. But those places are quickly filling up at san quentin they have 3700 inmates. 600 more than it actually can contain and thats in a
Perfect World marty thats before the pandemic now you add the pandemic to it he says it could quickly run through the system, its quinn and other prisons which is why up to about 3500 low risk inmates were not talking violent offenders. These are the people who are not convicted of
Violent Crimes or domestic violence. They will be checked out they will be looked at whether or not they have coronavirus or exposed to coronavirus and then theyll be quarantined if they were exposed to coronavirus and then released to the public i would presume to their family and friends. So a lot of people are saying why are they being released. Theres got to be another way to do it. The governor says hes considered all options, but the bottom line is prisons are not growing by the day. But the inmate population is and more importantly the number of covid cases they are growing which is why he and other legal experts believe the need to act very quickly because people come and go all the time through presence, including employees to go home to their families and they could spread coronavirus so he says time ironically when we talk about prison time. He says time is not on the state side. Party all right well, thanks a lot that that report from san quentin robin. To the east by now the
Oakland City Council is defunding its

Police Reform in antioch. This comes after the citys
Police Union President steve a yellow commenting on a photo on facebook of a protester flipping off a police officer, he wrote that he believes an open hand slap in the face is 100 justified. Well now people are asking that he step down calling his actions unacceptable among them catherine wade, the mother of an antioch man who says that i should he was beaten by police in 2014 now this is a photo of an officer with his knee on her sons neck just outside of her home where she says the officer pulled him out of her car in her driveway. Theyve said settled in a federal civil rights lawsuit officer is still with the
Police Department today. No no until you of our victim. I have condolences for the want the lies at the hands of the police. But what about the was this live in through the trauma. The brutalization from police is its not ok i exercise my right to protest, im going to be here as everyone else and i will not get slapped in the face by a police officer. Well chief plo released a statement that said his comment was taken out of context and that he apologizes for having made it there is an investigation into the matter and weve also reached out to the mayor for comment. But have not heard back. Meanwhile in the south bay plans are now in the works in san jose to reform its
Police Department mayor sam liccardo laid out an ambitious ninepoint plan that includes steps to improve transparency and accountability in arbitration and disciplinary decisions. Independent investigations of alleged
Police Misconduct. A ban on rubber bullets and a review of use of force policy. The mayor says those plans reflect his commitment to reforming the
Police Department without defunding it. I believe the overwhelming majority of our residents. Want us to continue funding the police because they want
Police Officers to show up particularly in communities that are heavily him by crime. Our residents are overwhelmingly telling us we want more police. Well this move comes as protesters call to defund the

Contra Costa County are teaming up to try and stop a recent rash of fireworks in richmond fireworks calls have jumped 82 compared to last year. Now agencies are using already depleted resources to get more officers on the streets. Officials worry about the impact the fireworks could have on pet people suffering from ptsd and the possible damage to homes. Every year we normally start receiving calls ground early june this year we started receiving calls as early as april been idle for a long time and so fireworks season, we know that theres not going to be a lot of fireworks shows and since this year in so we think that reason that people are going out and getting fireworks on your own. Fire crews in

Good morning welcome back to kron 00 04am morning news at 8. 44 this thursday morning. Were checking out the view from walnut creek a highway 6 8024 where things are looking pretty smooth. But day thats when a good its going to be one of the hot spots later is going to be that as well yeah well show you that 4 zone forecast in a bit but one of things i want to show you is progress on the fog yet as the shot from timber on look at all the blue skies we can see but a problem area around the golden gate so up close and personal its not as impressive for the golden gate, but. Elsewhere you can see fog is starting to lift sfo still working on that as well to its kind of hovered around the hills off to the back row, but no delays happening this morning. Temperatures are pretty much of the 50s 60s mixture over most of the bay however far inland antioch is coming in at 71, its kind of been the exception outline or all of this morning. 60s lot of the east bay shoreline lower 60s at that for now warming up later today in
Central Valley and one 02 for fresno 99 bakersfield, one 04 per the 70s or for the coast and
Southern California inland forget about its 100 plus even 77 up the big bear 60s meanwhile along the
Central Coast of the 4 zone forecast for your thursday 6067 rather for
San Francisco will do. A little cooler at the coast though were going to be fighting that fog a little longer as well 65 for daly city 62 for half moon bay. Meanwhile, the 70s and 60s mixture along the northern end of the the bay side. But south were looking at 80s here 83 for redwood city of palo alto 84
Mountain View and 76 carlos, in the south bay shy of 90 as we look at upper 80s in place here san jose at 88 los gatos also matching at morgan hill kind of a mild 84 today milpitas in santa clara in cupertino all line up for 87 on the east bay shoreline to the south or in the lower 80s lower 90s out the tri valley livermore and pleasanton about 1992 94 walnut creek end that were just looking at and 93 for a concorde 69 for berkeley and richmond checkin at 71, however, a chilly 69 but nation meanwhile, 83 89 pittsburgh, an 81 up to napa 89 sonoma and 87 for santa rosa more 80s down to southern rim to keep these 90s at least inland cooking for the next couple of days. Big dramatic change happens as we get into sunday. The high is gone, but in the next week well see generally mild weather. But temperatures not so lofty into the 80s look at a bay area traffic is that improving robin it is indeed thank goodness were not seeing heavy traffic that we saw a few hours ago check this out the drive into
San Francisco. I was going to say wide open but i do see a couple of cars slowing down just a little bit but a huge improvement compared to the last hour easy going so far. Here at the bay bridge toll plaza, lets check in on some more bridges, we have a hot spot free commute to the richmond sandra fell bridge traffic has thinned out here as well so no problems into the north bay and then commuting between the north bay and
San Francisco we see it picking up a little bit northbound heading out thats traffic on the right and thats partially because you only have 2 lanes theres nothing going on here. So overall a nice commute in both directions into and out of
San Francisco. On the peninsula after more than a 100 days of being shut down
San Mateo County officially allowed gyms to reopen on monday. One of the gems now open is the body studio for fitness the business is run by danny in teresa and the couple moved quickly to stay afloat when their door shot in march. Well, the

National news now this morning cities across the country are seen an increase in gun violence now this comes during the cannes continuing coronavirus pandemic as well as social unrest in issues of
Police Reform following the
Police Killing of george floyd
Brynn Gingras has more. In many major cities across the country gun violence is on the rise. In the chicago suburb, a 13 yearold girl hit by bullets while watching tv. The gunfire outside her window among more than 100 shootings indy city last week in minneapolis by some people to shooting just. 3040 50 shots
Officials Say more than a 100 people have been shot in the last month since the death of george floyd. And in new york city nypd crime data shows the number of shooting victims is up 414 last week compared to the same time period last year. Chief of

We havent seen this level of violence, researchers with the council on criminal justice looked at homicide rates across 64 cities this year compared to the previous 3 years if you see see sun in crime trends across country you need to look at some
Type National shock to the system. Broader underlying structural trends are not explain as part of their

Violent Crime. But those aggressive tactics were often met with controversy money and says
Constant Police changes are causing confusion among the rank and file how did the communities wants to place quality of life policing in new york. Was one of the things got us to where we were a cop the question what do communities wants to go and there are people out there to take advantage of it. And then theres the pandemic public resources, least
Hospital Service providers communitybased means theres less resources to fight
Violent Crime and the pandemic is these people under
Reach Financial mental emotional strain and so all of those things can trigger. More violence. The councils research had already found killings in major cities were on the rise, this year starting in january and february. Now a dramatic increase in numbers as cities reopened after shutting down in the spring. A nationwide trend, many believe will continue were deeply concerned that in the months ahead he see more violence. This huge. Researchers and members of
Law Enforcement say the burden to bring crime down cant solely rest on the shoulders of police we need to hear from the community that i live in foodies gunfire. They have to see it each and every day what exactly do they want us to go this is monumental period and policing. Well that was
Brynn Gingras reporting for us this morning, a republican
