Now you might even remember earlier in the week out here in concord there was a large grass fire that officials believe that a potentially been caused by fireworks as well so they have been busy all throughout the week trying to put out these fires theyve also put together a demonstration there showing people to try to prevent people from a using illegal fireworks take a look at this. Another form of a sparkler. 2 minutes into. The sparkler being thrown into the grass. All right. Now you can see from this demonstration just how quickly a fire can be spread now again they are trying to discourage you know a lot of people just want to celebrate today, but uh its illegal to use fireworks here in Contra Costa County that theyre trying to get people to just see the message here the message you know they have to spend a lot of their time overnight working to put fires out and ultimately theyre just trying to keep people safe so again if you are going to be celebrating today. Churches and places of worship have already had to change how they have service because of the pandemic and now theyre being asked to make more changes state guidelines for places of worship now told to stop all singing and chanting during in Person Services because it can increase the likelihood of spreading the virus immediately. I thought thats from and you cant we cant do that. Judy miller attends Cross Culture Community church in lodi miller says the governor has gone too far throughout the bible there are mandates from not telling us as christians to staying in craze to him its part of our way of telling. You know even unbelievers the great works of god. She says she sent a letter to the governor and the u. S. Attorney general expressing her concerns to are we supposed to listen to we listen to our government or do we follow our mandate from our god im going to follow the mandate from my god, but nelson rebel associate pastor of Saint Pauls Lutheran Church in lodi disagrees the singing is always lifting up the word. Were taught to care for flock and i thing is it would be negligent it would not be showing off to a neighbor if we were all of a sudden open up the church as if nothing has happened. Well that was kristi gross reporting for us this morning dave all right marty were looking temperatures now in the 50s right now some lower 60s out there too in the inland valleys were going to have a hot in the inland valleys Independence Day then cooling off in the next week and a check into those the open road is open again. And wherever youre headed, Choice Hotels is there. Book direct at choicehotels. Com. Welcome back to the kron 4 morning news, the time of 7. 15 good morning, everyone we want to get a check of your 4th of july weather forecast. So lets head over to the Weather Center and check in with dave spahr heyday, a good morning robin good morning everybody off to a great start to this live shot coming in from u c berkeley look at the east bay shoreline all it appear nicely going on the shot from the Golden Gate Bridge as well we dont see much the way of fog do want to know a little bit of a breeze were going to get more intense winds later on. This afternoon. Temperatures on the board we have lower 50s when you head up to the north bay here from are in up to santa rosa 50, 55 meanwhile for napa off to the east bay, the upper 50 63 antioch in 58 going on for san jose. Now the dance this all the way till sunday morning just to give you a general idea where the marine layer is when it goes away again for tomorrow afternoon and you have to go all the way up to monday to we start to get it to come back alive so we have this patch of some relatively dry air. Todays going to be hot. And were looking for some cooling happening into next week the transition, however, well bring some winds now this afternoon. We have inland heating so that can drive some onshore winds. Thats kind of a given but its in from the northwest and it does hold together nicely overnight for a time even authorities that heating little bit more aggressive as we get into sunday evening. Its only just by 7 oclock and the wind you can see how. Enthuse they are up to camp in the north bay and how late it is all the way till monday morning we still have winds going on in the north bay there in some portions off to the east bay. This is the hint of the some slight changing happening. The weakening of the building of this heat spike want to call it that and cooling temperatures into next week. So look ahead for this Independence Day sunny breezy late. Inland highs in the 90s we had 80s for the bay, 60s of the coast for the most part some places may pop up near 70 or so then for tomorrow, its sunny still breezy in the afternoon, not as warm still got some 90s going on were going to lose some of those and then next week its continued sunny, but cooling. 80s inland bays and some kate in some cases, the bay will fall to the lower 70s. Today were talking 70, San Francisco, mild breezy 77 for oakland, 86 meanwhile for san jose across the wider bay there we go we got some middle 90s the far east beirut santa rosa up to 90 to 86 san jose but some areas, the south bay. Well still be popping into the 90s were checking all of that in your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit robin. All right. Thank you dave. Well, some Health Experts warn the Independence Day weekend could cause rampant spread of covid19 thats especially bad news given the recent spike in cases, nick watt has the latest on the health crisis. Florida now leading the nation in new cases every day as the u. S. Eggs into the Holiday Weekend. The most important thing i would say to people if you do go out to a gathering or in public. Please wear a Face Covering beaches will be open again in new york city for the 4th but closing down again in parts of texas across much of Southern California, the bay area. And south florida off limits in miami beach and the mayors message the hardest thing to deal with these mixed messages coming from the state and the federal government and the president are telling people that theyre nothing more american than making a sacrifice by staying home wednesday more than 50,000 new cases across this country for the first time. Yesterday. It happened again id like to just wasnt says its just more testing is its not from so what is it was very difficult to say that this particular demonstration with that particular rally that particular holiday at the beach did it. But something happened to make the spike go way up like that and different states different stories in arizona more people are now being killed by covid19 than ever before. Vermont hasnt had a covid19 patients in the icu. For nearly 6 weeks i won in parts of texas. Were told there are now waiting lists for icu beds covid is spreading. Like never before hes finally mandated mosques for most texans for sure know the cow is out of the bar. I think we have a little too late. I mean this is a mission that youve got that being is it true that months ago still texas making that move might be a watershed moment, i hope that every governor every state a stonemason says in one of the most conservative. Freedom loving. States that that would be the last place youd expect can do it. Its really ok to say lets put Public Health first. Well that was nick watt reporting and Health Experts say its best to just keep the 4th of july activities outdoors and of course at a distance. They say its also a good idea to cancel gathering if it rains its not going to rain here in the bay area. And if the pool or beach is packed which you cant go to the beach experts suggest just stay home, so yeah seems like were going to be just hanging out in the backyard. Or on the port. Well donald trump juniors girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle has tested positive for covid19 the news was confirmed by cnn and were told that she was never in close contact with the president guilfoyle also attended President Trumps tulsa oklahoma rally back on june 20th. Reports say that trump junior tested negative for the virus guilfoyle is the ex wife of california governor gavin newsome. President trump and First Lady Melania Trump celebrated an early 4th of july and Mount RushmoreNational Memorial last night, an estimated 7500 people gathered for the event there was no social distancing. Despite the record high new coronavirus cases here in the u. S. And there was also fire danger concerns about using fireworks and dry conditions there. The country of course dealing with races history and monuments and President Trump condemned the idea, a Mount Rushmore being destroyed. I am here is your president to proclaim before the country. And before the world. This monument will never be desecrated. Legacy will never ever be destroyed. Their achievements, well never be forgotten. And Mount Rushmore well stand for ever as of the turn of tribute to our forefathers and to our freedom. Some native american groups use the president s visit to protest the Mount Rushmore memorial they point out that the black hills where Mount Rushmore is located were taken from the lakota people breaking treaty agreements at that time. Coming up next on the kron 00 04am morning news. Theyre back for summer training at least the what the giants were up 2 after our skin tells a story that deserves the best care dove body washs new formula works with your skin for lasting care so your skin can keep telling stories beautifully new dove body wash proven lasting care for the skin you live in really hold up against 60 of the toughest stains . Many ball players and staffers were massive it their best to maintain distance. There are plenty of other new Health Standards in place though including temperature checks and physicals each day for the players have so they have to go through and despite the precautions and the changes to their routines the players said its a pretty good to be back out there on the yard. Just to be back at the park and knowing even though im not saying a lot of them knowing that a lot of guys are back in and working out and getting for a not that are not so great. Theres a lot of hoops to jump through to get going to stay but us is the first days everything says were going smoothly and i assume itll go easier as a the days go on. How were hoping to go smoothly of the season is scheduled to start on july 3rd or july 24th will be waiting patients. Well Major League Baseball also announcing the results from its first round of covid testing. 31 players and 7 staffers testing positive that includes giants righthander luis montero hes the Second Player on the team to test positive all told 19 teams have someone who has tested positive. The League Safety protocols say those who test positive will self isolate right away and individual names will not be revealed. And well be also announcing the cancellation of this years allstar game. No big surprise. The problem of course continued concern about large gatherings fan activities leading up to the allstar game were also canceled. The dodgers were supposed to host this years game. So the Atlanta Braves has already been named for the host team for next year. So the dodgers will get the event back in 2022. Still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news santa cruz is one of the only places where beaches and parking lots are actually open this weekend coming up well talk about whats available and also whats off limits. And the 4th of July Fireworks show in San Francisco course canceled this year but yes, you have options you can join kron 4 for a virtual celebration. Thats right. We appreciate the company and we know that you cant do much today, but you still need to get an update on the forecast. Maybe well call it like a backyard tpforecast. We cant really hand. Yeah haha over 2 days as far get update, dave sounds like a plan i grill so were already Party Everybody live shot coming in from temper on as we can see a little bit of fog try to make its appearance around the Golden Gate Bridge it just wants to check in and its out of here. Basically mostly sunny well do it for descriptor for everybody saw one advance everything to see a sneak peek into early next week here on sunday morning not much happens throughout the day sure sunday night into monday morning. This is the only effort of the fog really were looking at so not much of an effort even at that point. This is the recovery phase. You want to call it from that from the nice warm up or getting this Holiday Weekend. Bay Area Temperatures thus far were pretty much into the lower to middle 50s, some upper 50s on the east bay shoreline and off to the east bay antioch is already popping it, 63 by the way for those festivities that were all going safely in distancing and so forth if youre in the backyard and so forth this is what you can expect by 09 00pm some patchy coastal fog but i want to emphasize breezy particularly in spots will be tracking that there around the coast and for the bay that will be an onshore wind which is good for anything. Any fireworks there are going on for today. Were expecting 78 for 11 00am by 2 91 90s will be expected. Well inland going on today and then a big drop happening really into next week but a slight drop for sunday were going get into your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit marty all right dave thanks a lot. Thats the news this morning governor newsome wants people to stay closer to home for the 4th of july weekend. As new virus cases continue to pile up the governor says hes relying on everyone to use common sense to wear masks rather than enforcing a strict Face Covering order infection rates and hospitalizations here in california have soared over the past 2 weeks. Many businesses were warned last month that failure to enforce the order to wear masks could result in fines and even prosecution. The Oakland Police department is reminding drivers to not drink and drive this Holiday Weekend. They say officers will be conducting dui checkpoints are going to be out there this weekend at undisclosed locations throughout the city of Oakland Police say that during the checkpoint officers will be looking for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and or drugs and drivers charged with dui keep in mind that you face an average of 13,000 500 in fines and penalties you dont want that right as well as a suspended license. Well in an effort to limit large gatherings ahead of the Holiday WeekendSan Francisco has closed beach parking lots during the 4th of july Holiday Weekend. Keep in mind that some of those beaches include baker beach, fort point crissy field ocean beach just to name a few. The beaches will still be at accessible to bicyclists and pedestrians but the parking lot will be closed. And with those new closures santa cruz is one of the only beaches and parking lots in the bay area that will be open this weekend. Kron fours rob fladeboe explains how many are worrying about the likely big crowds of might jam those beaches throughout the weekend. Well not exactly crowded not yet anyway. The main beach here in santa cruz was busy today despite being urged to recreate close to home amid a surge in the coronavirus people are coming anyway, we drove gosh like 5 hours just to get here. Just so we can get out of town and been cooped up for months, the wharf is open. The rides are closed, but the boardwalk is also mostly open hotels are open and Indoor Dining has returned without a regional approach in place santa cruz had no choice but to stay open says mayor Justin Cummings its really hard for us to justify. Closing beaches which is the activity and of itself as low risk. When you have bars Hotels Restaurants open most of the people strolling youre on the war for Wearing Masks, but not so much down there on the sand. In forcing physical distancing will be left to the officers discretion says the mayor. It could be that if theres a big party, the that is you know knowing neighbors with the police get called people like it cited for that. Of people are having bonfires on the beach which are not probe which are not allowed right now that could be a possibility police will have 0 tolerance for fireworks and drunk drivers. Parking lots and restrooms are open beach goers are encouraged to spread out theres plenty of room to stay safe and take the air at the same time i love the ocean air and you can still smell it. The mouth, but you know, but its its you have to do you have to do to protect yourself and pretend to protect others, you may recall the beaches of santa cruz were shut down during the day for most of the month of june, but they were reopened because that ban was virtually unenforceable based on the crowds arriving here on the day before the 4th of july. Its easy to see why. In santa cruz rob fladeboe kron 4 news. Well to the east bay now a 7 yearold boys in the hospital with major injuries after a hit and run and Martinez Police are still searching for the suspect who might be a Delivery Driver. Take a look at the Surveillance Video check it out here this is the video of the hit and run, you can see the boy coming down the driveway, the 7 yearold owen jones he was on his scooter. Just writing down his driveway along vine and leslie avenue when he fell and this happened moments before the white box truck was heading down the street he hit him and didnt stop. One underwent surgery, but his helmet prevented serious injuries. I think if you run over a squirrel you know that you have some things so to run over a child fullbody now theres no way that you dont know he thought about it. I did something i should stop. He chose the wrong path all you had to do was stop. It was an accident. His response. It was tragic. Well of caught the driver will face felony charges. Back after months of sheltering in place and travel restrictions Sonoma County wine country has reopened to travelers from the outside of the county. The winerys theyre making good use of their wide open spaces in their backyards and welcoming visitors back our travel enthuses dana redmond joins me this morning and dana these wineries are open despite the latest pullback this past week. Yeah, and its important you have to check every day since she ange all the time thats important to know what theyre doing is theyre theyre taking that wind that theyre known for and theyre combining it with new opportunities to get outside and enjoy fresh air because thats what people are creating so our first stop this morning, lets head to the Russian River valley its ok useful stretch of Sonoma County just horses. Its gorgeous this is la crema 100 acre state more than just vineyards as you can see beautiful colorful gardens, their fruit trees there oaks and redwoods and now with the properties doing is theyre giving folks an opportunity to kind of get to know some nixon crannies that they may not have experienced or great idea. Yeah, yeah its a new walking tour and tasting runs every day at 11 oclock its limited to a maximum of 6 people so okay reservations is reservations are important and youre going to want to have your mask as the first 45 minutes or alright, theyre guided vineyards stroll or walk through the property then you sit down either on the patio or indoors. The choice is yours for that so that tasting again mass required for everything but the wine tasting but its a nice waiting get outside and stretch your legs and soak up some of that fresh air it really is dana and with the weather weve been having is just a perfect time to go how much this has cost. So this was this was going to about 75 a person and i would plan on 90 minutes to 2 hours for this one to truly kind of feel like you get to relax. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly that and so so just to make sure that were clear on this 6 people at one time per reservation is that right. The 6 people total so if youre in luck unless you have like a family group they they can open it up to more, but the maximum is going to be 6 people plus your guy all right all right, lets move on to the next one. Absolutely im not going too far in nearby new interview state in windsor and they again have a huge property and theyre taking full advantage if you purchase 3 bottles of wine you essentially become a Wine Club Member for a day and this kind of becomes your private park great. 700 acres of property when you go to pick up your wine you have the entire day to use the lakeside for a picnic maybe theres 14 miles of trails you can hike you can bike you can run, theres all sorts of ways to kind of explore the property again you need to have a reservation this is really important thats kind of how things are changing thats wineries are controlling the flow of people and youre going to want to have your mast in a situation like this. Its going to be fairly easy to socially distance i cant imagine youre going to have an issue but youre going to want it for when youre checking in and checking out an and that type of thing so basically basically are pure youre buying 3 bottles of wine and then you have the run of the place. Absolutely and the line at notre abuse starts at a little over 20 bottle so thats what youre looking at as far as the price range and you know theyre theyre using this open space throughout the summer to kind of be their advantage along with just going in thinking of life theyre doing guidance and said runs theres yoga and theres a drivein movie on the cow little bit about i think a little bit of everything and kind of get out and explore yes and this is and this is in windsor high heels berg same same thing jordan is another property, not too far away in heels, bird they boast on those 900 acres of open space. Theyre doing all sorts of great things as jordan and i think we have some footage of them to an okay 4 days a week theyre running guided hikes so there is little a little worse. Its a beautiful frenchinspired and you can do a guided fourmile hike or you can do on a pink eye frenchinspired lunch on the patio but the hikes the hikes again for your mass you need to have a reservation but when youre on the hike as long as you can comfortably social distance which is going to be a majority of the time you wont need the you wont need the mass wire hiking, you know one thing i like about these ideas jet danas that youre getting a view of just past the Visitors Center and the patio youre actually getting out into the property. To see just how and what they have their that absolutely that i couldnt agree with you more this is really giving people an opportunity to even see a little bit behind the scenes you if you want to call it that way but jordan for example, i mean along with 10 years they have a beautiful one acre garden, theres there there are animals their olive trees, theres all sorts of things so you get to explore you get to learn more and again if youre if youre not ready, youre not ready to go there are hundreds of places doing virtual wine tasting you can take advantage of that. Read into your own home and just enjoy know what your comfort zone, absolutely know what your comfort zone enjoy yourself wine country theyre doing everything they can to keep their visitors and Community Safe, but they want you to enjoy the line at the end of the day. You know its fantastic to see how all the different wineries are adapting to our new reality and figuring out ways to get visitors out there to enjoy what they have to offer absolutely in this video from the shane this wine tasting they did for a 150 graduates to u c berkeley so its a great way even to get a large group of people virtually together dont underestimate the value of that have have have aligned with the recent or you know what youre talking about and that be the to the mom of a recent grad. Were also sweet start very little bit in the way of fog those temperatures already starting to move in the inland areas of the east bay, antioch at 6864 going on for concord going to be a warm one today and were cooling off a little bit into next week going in the 13 this Independence Day morning and thanks for joining us. And we want to get the check of the forecast some folks are going to be barbecue in the backyard and you can go to the Fireworks Show lets find out the weather from dave. Hey good morning marty good morning, everybody and a little bit of that hazy fog trying to make a little appearance across the Golden Gate Bridge about up close and personal look like pretty nice blue skies, weve got going on here and thats going to be the case going on for today. Were off to a warm start and going to be hot in those inland valleys going on for today. Now a little bit of cooling down expected into next week almost kind of a changing climate when you get to about wednesday or so so this is not going to last very long and because of a nice treat for mid july here compares sometimes the heats bikes will get 68 antioch at this hour 64 for concord 62 livermore up to the north bay even starting to move, 56 still santa rosa 61 for napa south bay 62 san jose palo alto even coming in at 63. Advance this all the way to about sunday morning not much in the way of a marine layer, it up a bit we get tomorrow morning goes away pretty quickly by monday we start to get a little bit more here hinting that High Pressure cell starting to weaken a little bit. Thats good. The driving factor today thats going to be weakening as we get into next week and thats all in tandem with the cooling down that were talking about. So lets look at these winds are typical optic that happens because of inland heating drawing in the onshore winds but the high is starting to weekend little bit more pronounced it looks like tomorrow afternoon and evening. So it looks like about sunday evening about 8. 45 strolls still strong northwest wind up there in the north bay and that lingers all overnight into monday morning. So well start to feel that probably by monday in earnest. And those inland areas as temperatures start to retreat a little bit so for your Independence Day, its sunny breezy late. And we look for in the highs. Well in the 80s or 90s rather weve got 80s covering a good chunk of the bay to 60s of the coast tomorrow, sunny still breezy in the afternoon a little bit more so overnight not as warm still night is going on in london the next week. A pretty seasonal. We continued sunny cooling has a look at those high temperatures to fall in the 80s inland with some lower 70s even in spots for the east bay shoreline today, 70 San Francisco little breeze going on 77 for oakland, 86 meanwhile for san jose across the wider bay. Theres the reds making their way across the north bay, good come care of the east bay, not quite making of the east bay hills some lower 80s. There and then 86 meanwhile for san jose coming up a little bit later on well be having a look at your 4 zone forecast and that extended marty. All right dave thank you will the state of california has released a brand new ad campaign to encourage everyone to wear a mask and more than 400 billboards have also been put up to encourage Face Coverings and social distancing. Well this is just one of the charring covid Public Service announcements at the state of california unveiled the cdc now projecting nearly 148,000 coronavirus deaths in the u. S. By july 5th 255th. Donald trump juniors girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle has tested positive for covid19 that news was confirmed by cnn were also told she was never in close contact with the president guilfoyle also attended President Trumps tulsa oklahoma rally back on june 20th. Reports say the trump junior tested negative for the virus. Guilfoyle of course the exwife of california governor gavin newsome. Some Health Experts warn the Independence Day weekend could cause rapid spread of covid19 thats especially bad news given the recent spike in cases, nick watt has the latest on the health crisis. Florida now leading the nation in new cases every day as the u. S. Heads into the Holiday Weekend. The most important thing i would say to people if you do go out to a gathering or in public. Please wear a Face Covering beaches will be open again in new york city for the 4th but closing down again in parts of texas across much of Southern California, the bay area. And south florida off limits in miami beach. And the mayors message, the hardest thing to deal with these mixed messages coming from the state and the federal government and the president are telling people that theyre nothing more american than making a sacrifice by staying home wednesday more than 50,000 new cases across this country for the first time. Yesterday. It happened again id like to just wasnt says its just more testing is its not from so what is it was very difficult to say that this particular demonstration or that particular rally that particular holiday at the beach did it. But something happened to make the spike go way up like that and different states different stories in arizona more people are now being killed by covid19 than ever before. Vermont hasnt had a covid19 patients in the icu for nearly 6 weeks i won in parts of texas. Were told there are now. Waiting lists for icu beds covid is spreading like never before hes finally mandated mosques for most texans for sure know the cow is out of the bar. I think we have a little too late. I mean this is a mission which is being is it true that months ago still texas making that move might be a watershed moment, i hope that every governor every state a stonemason says in one of the most conservative. Freedom loving. States that that would be the last place youd expect can do it. Its really ok to say lets put Public Health first. Well that was nick watt reporting Health Experts say its best to just keep those 4th of july activities outdoors and of course at a distance. They say its a good idea to cancel gatherings if it rains not been arraigned here in the bay area. And if the pool or beach is packed experts suggest just head home. President trump and First Lady Melania Trump celebrated an early 4th of july at the Mount RushmoreNational Memorial last night. An estimated 7500 people gathered for the event there was no social distance seen a planned. Despite the record. Hi new coronavirus cases in the u. S. And there were fire danger concerns as well about using fireworks and dry conditions. The country of course dealing with its races history and monuments, President Trump condemned the idea of Mount Rushmore being destroyed. I am here is your president to proclaim before the country. And before the world. This monument will never be desecrated. Legacy will never ever be destroyed. Their achievements, well never be forgotten. And Mount Rushmore well stand for ever as of the turn of tribute to our forefathers and to our freedom. Some native american groups use the president s visit to demonstrate to the year at the Mount Rushmore memorial they point out that the black hills area where the memorial is located. More pronounced expected for tomorrow and will result in the temperature change into next week today, the lineup, 83 doesnt high noon by 3 at 92. Still were looking at areas that will be doing better than that for high temperatures today will be take a look at that in your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit morning, robin. The driver never stopped he had that split second he thought about it. I did something i should stop. He chose the wrong path owens mother amanda jones says her son is recovering from major injuries at Childrens Hospital in oakland where he was airlifted after the collision he required surgery for a laceration on his leg but was wearing a helmet during the crash and avoided serious head injuries. Thank god. He has no broken bones. He has a concussion. And no major injuries to the organs see came down the strive way randi picks 2 lives next door and was taking her kids out of her car when she heard the crash her Surveillance System snapped this photo of the vehicle involved the chp says this may also be the same truck fixed and believes the driver was speeding at the time of the collision something she says is common in this area and in her opinion. She says theres no way that the driver did not know that they hit someone i think if you run over a squirrel you know that you have some things so. To run over a child fullbody now theres no way that you dont know i dont know if its a male or female, but it looks like a Company Style box truck. With the person that possibly had a yellow or like lime green vest on which also signify some type of worker for a possible Delivery Service company all you had to do was stop. It was an accident. His response. It was tragic if caught the driver will face felony charges in martinez phillipe djegal all kron 4 news. Well in an effort to limit large gatherings ahead of the Holiday WeekendSan Francisco has closed beach parking lots during the 4th of july Holiday Weekend. Now some of those beaches include baker beach, fort point crissy field ocean beach just to name a few and those beaches will still be accessible to bicyclists and pedestrians just not the parking lots with those new closures santa cruz is one of the only beaches and parking lots that will be open this weekend while the rides at the beach will remain closed. The boardwalk is mostly open as is the wharf. Hotels and Indoor Dining also returning. Beach goers are encouraged of course to spread out and then they remind you that theres plenty of room to stay safe and still have a good time. In forcing physical distancing will be left a Police Officers discretion. Santa cruz mayor justin coming says that without a regional approach in place. Santa cruz had no choice but to remain open. We drove gosh like 5 hours just to get here. Just so we can get out of town and been cooped up for months really hard for us to justify. Closing beaches which is the activity and of itself as low risk. When you have bars Hotels Restaurants open it could be that you know theres a big party that. That is an annoying neighbors with the police get called people like it cited for that. Of people are having bonfires on the beach which are not pro which are not allowed right now that could be a possibility. The Santa Cruz Beach was shut down during much of the day for much of the month of but it recently reopened after it was decided that the ban was simply an enforceable police do warn that they will have 0 tolerance for fireworks and for drunk drivers. Inland areas in the east bay weve has 62 down a san jose and 50s and 60s mixture theyre up to excuse me the north bay future cast winds. This afternoon, well see an uptick that happens now we do have inland heating so that tends to drive in on shore wind somewhat more pronounced as you can see pretty late and little bit more stark and pronounced as well lingering in the far east bay reaches all the way out to monday morning there you see up in the north bay as well. This is what were turning temperatures a bit its going to slightly cooler tomorrow but more noticeable as we get into next week and youll see that in the sevenday forecast temperatures across the state 100 fresno bakersfield 97 of the Southern California 82 san diego look at that big bear at 73. A keep it here well have some studio conver well the coronavirus pandemic has forced all of us to change our normal routines weve been stuck at home working remotely or a lot of people just simply out of work. And of course we picked up some healthy and some rmful habits. Our Health Expert, karen o of joins me this morning to spotlight the good and the bad habits we picked up during the pandemic karen bad habit. Number one of course plopped on the couch mindlessly eating. Exactly eating mindlessly and pro crass to beatty i dont know if youve heard that term no i havent i like it. And its a real thing. It people take things that are completely unnecessary yeah as a way to divert their attention from real work. Its a way for some people to feel like theyre theyre skillful at something and theyre theyre doing productive but yet theyre actually trying to avoid doing some work but you know we all we all want to look for those comfort foods and i guess what a lot of folks baking bread or Something Else is exactly that right. Right great think bake baking the bread so start says the cookies cakes. Its its actually was interesting because i heard a lot of people could not find flower right, a lot of crest debate. Yes. So it was right up there with the toilet paper for a time yeah sure actually yeah yeah exactly so so this this. Food really does affect our health doesnt because of her immune system doesnt. Right because are you creating these foods that are not really good for your immune function know this sugars in the suites that this fatty foods saturated fats. So all in all its not only contributes to the quarantine 15 oh its also contributing to reduced immune function. Yeah, one thing that we all have in our normal lives of some type of structure we have a schedule that we have to follow. And with so many people sheltering in place or unfortunately, lot of folks have lost their jobs that structure has suddenly gone away. Right in and a lot of people really thrive by having structuring haha rigorous routine. So when you take that away. And it causes im a product is a productivity issue still units may be spending more time watching tv and playing video games be rise much a d a. Its just it creates havoc actually. It really doesnt diane and it affects our health because a lot of that time that we are structured at work or doing whatever were doing going out to exercise things like this. Were sitting on the sofa or baking bread as you mentioned. Yeah exactly yeah, so yeah, it is problematic its its trying to set up a new and kind of pushing yourself try to avoid those developing these new habits. So what tips can you give people to try and get us get the schedule back into their lives, especially now that weve been under this quarantine for several months now. So its pretty much you know trying to starting out in the beginning the morning, you know when you dont have a schedule a lot of things go awry you miss meals, he starts snacking all day long even miss taking your medication so setting up a schedule. Will really be really helpful in and just having it in black and white so that you could see it. I would think that getting dressed in quote unquote were close would also help because we hear so many people just basically rolling out of bed putting on sweats and thats it for the rest of the day. Exactly and if theyre zooming theyre only we so seen so many videos of that right all right well lets turn the page and lets go to some good habits that weve developed over the past couple of months that weve been in quarantine. Yes, so i you know seeking medical attention that thats something that. You know that the whole tele medicine. Phenomenon has been very helpful because a lot of people were not seeking medical attention because it was very difficult to get to the doctor maybe they needed a ride or they would have to take a whole day or half a day off work which they couldnt afford because going traveling to the doctor waiting for an hour or so so its really been helpful to have these tell a visit with the doctors and the doctors that ive spoken to love it its very efficient, theyre not having to sterilize their rooms and duty patient comes in. And you know from a patients perspective, you also dont feel guilty taking up the doctors time saying oh well i just you know i have this i sprained my ankle or whatever it might be and they may be busy with other things doing it by phone or by your computer really it takes away that anxiety, the patients may have. Exactly because they have a set time that they are meeting and talking to the doctor and the these these meetings are very effective because they can actually show and share. Medical that these lab tests and xrays all those things on its its amazing what telemedicine can do. Yeah yeah, ive really enjoyed it i ive had to medical by phone. With the video and really enjoy didnt seem like the doctors both doctors have have the same a reaction to it as well so it seems like its a winwin. Exactly theyre theyre not so stressed he theyre not trying to rent from room to room in india been only 5 minutes with the patient gives them a chance to take a breath as and one other one other positive here has been as the use of zoom and skype and facetime and all these other technologies where we can communicate and touch touch base with friends and family. And this has really been helpful for the older adults once they get past the they fear of technology and learning to use it it really opens up their world because it really takes away the whole Long Distance gap. You know they can interact with their grandchildren to maybe be from 400 miles away and interact with friends you could play card games and and all of that it it could be really fun, you know thats fantastic one other a positive note has been the fact with most people staying home or and not going out to eat as much. Its more of a healthy diet that we have right if youre not progress to treated much theres always that. Yeah they found that over 50 of americans since this the pandemic. They are eating at home, yeah they do more cooking and end all the studies show that. That if youre doing more cooking at home, youre eating better just have a better quality diet so thats all good, you know the other thing too about this is that a lot of folks are saving a lot more money because theres and up until recently there was no place to go. Right they are saving money and they found that they would they did a study that found that over 60 of the people they surveyed are also being more resourceful theyre not wasting as much food and theyre theyre trying create recipes from things that they have in your pantry or have already have in their recent or 8 or so. Thats all good too and you know another great part of all of this if we can put a Silver Lining to this pandemic is the fact that weve all been become much more aware of our health. Were washing our hands, countless times a day wearing mask or worrying about coughing and things like this. Before before this pandemic we never thought about it. Write it and thats kind of basic hygiene and really learning how to actually wash your hands and and be a little bit more mindful sanitation and disinfecting so thats thats been a really great thing. Yeah i think the bottom line here is that we have to remind ourselves of the good habits while we try to get rid of the bad habits as we move on. Right in in what i teach an have a coaching you really cant extinguish a bad habit, its always there. So so you want to try to not develop went in the first place so that youre not falling back on on old habits just the really aware of your behavior you know because if youre constantly going by the pantry and that you could break this habit of eating and to that snappy thats going to stick with you for a long time youre right. Well karen. Thank you so much for these tips and uh you know i always feel like i have the devil on one children, the angel and the other shoulder and both of them are talking to me at one time im going to welcome back everyone the time is 8. 56 thanks for staying with us lets get an update on your forecast youre probably getting ready for your backyard barbecue, hey hey good morning rob, good morning, everybody and i picked a good evening to do it to just watch out some winds later on this afternoon and evening. Or just played over historic Mount Rushmore and 11 years that also featured music as well as military flyovers and a speech by the president himself that you might have expected the president to talk extensively about coronavirus which is ravaging the United States right now. He only mentioned it once at the very beginning of this speech and he never came back to it but one of the themes he chose to hit hardest in this speech was what the president sees as a tax on historic statues all over the country by people who see them as symbols of oppression, the president said. Hes not going to let the statues be destroyed. He even said. It wants to create some type of garden of heroes of with statues in the United States. But hes not going to let americans destroyed the statues that now exists listen those who seek to erase our heritage one americans. To forget our pride and our great dignity. Now to show you on future cast for the hints of this weakening to get you in the next week. This toto goes all the way up to let up tomorrow morning so look for this marine layer, it goes away again tomorrow so tomorrows pretty good day too. Then we get into monday. Theres the him to the marine layer here well have a little bit of fog around the bay as temperatures start to retreat going into the middle of next week you really can see this with the winds though today the typical upsurge happens you get inland heat in the polls and the winds on shore. They linger up here in the north bay pretty late overnight. Then into sunday night its more pronounced particularly up in the north bay notice, those those statements reading on this but just pointing this out and even inland areas of the east bay as late as 9. 45 after the sunday heating. But it lingers over night up here in the north bay so things will start to turn as the High Pressure controlling everything weekends. We get more influence of allowing the onshore flow pattern in the place for this Independence Day weve got sunny breezy late going on as we talked about 90s pretty much the rule inland 80s around the bay 60s with the coast. Sunday lets pull back from some of those 90s happening inland. And even some of those 80s of the bay is some 70s starts sprinkling along the east bay shoreline the next week cooling and 80s even going on in land might even be some lower 80s that that too with some lower 70s along parts of the east bay shoreline by the time we get to the middle of next week today a 70 going on San Francisco little bit of a breeze 77 for oakland, 86 san jose all those summaries and the south they will still top off into the 90s. Heres how it looks like across the greater piece of real estate we have rosa 95 for any auc still quite baking in Central Valley today as were approaching around 100 meanwhile east bay shoreline in the lower 80s. Coming up a little bit of course well take a look at the 4 zone forecast as well as your extended back to you. Sounds good. Thank you. Dave will some Health Experts warn the Independence Day weekend could cause rapid spread of covid19 thats especially bad news given the recent spike in cases. Nick watt has the latest on the health crisis. And the mayors message the hardest thing to deal with these mixed messages coming from the state and the federal government and the president are telling people that theyre nothing more american than making a sacrifice by staying home wednesday more than 50,000 new cases across this country for the first time. Yesterday. It happened again id like to present says its just more testing use its not from so what is it was very difficult to say that this particular demonstration of that particular alley well that particular holiday at the beach did it. I mean this is a mission that youve got that being is it true that months ago still texas making that move might be a watershed moment, i hope that every governor every state a stoughton says in one of the most conservative. Freedom loving. States that that would be the last place youd expect can do it. Its really ok to say lets put Public Health first. Well that was nick watt reporting Health Experts say its best to just keep those 4th of july activities outdoors and at a distance and if the pool or beach is packed. Experts suggest just stay home. Well thousands of people are going to flock to lake tahoe, this 4th of july Holiday Weekend. But that has some fulltime residents theyre concerned about the spread of covid19 erick rucker has the story. Its the typical 4th of july mass migration to the tahoe area, the city of South Lake Tahoe will quadruple in population for the next few days. And the area as a whole will see about a quarter of a Million People and while those who live up here year round are very welcoming to tourists. Its what these out of towners could potentially be bringing up here this go around that has those that live here not being a social as they normally would be most locals that im talking to are hiding right now. Or hiding sue and Andy Mcloughlin have lived in time ho for decades. Theyre both well aware that with our current pandemic this Independence Day weekend is just different. And we hate to give up this holiday to the tourists but i think for the safety of the town were doing it. The fear is not knowing who or how many visitors could have the coronavirus our cameras caught busy beaches and crowded sidewalks some Wearing Masks some not were really well prepared for visitors, thats what we do up here. We want people to come and have a great time going to totally change the Playing FieldJesse Patterson is with keep tahoe blue patterson says the main focus during the 4th holiday is keeping visitor trash off of the beaches and lakes however many of those resources have been dispersed because of the pandemic now more than ever patterson says people need to respect their natural surroundings so were asking everybody to be a tahoe blue good or just means clean up after yourself an even better than you found it. Whether its spreading garbage or a virus locals like loughlins are pleading for people to show respect to the area and its residents. We have to social distance whether we like it or not thats not the choice we have to. So we need to leave these people where they are and they need to leave us alone as well Dan Mclaughlin also telling me that he is seen more and more people who normally just live up here part time living up here full time at least temporarily for last 3 or 4 months, not wanting to go back to their homes in bigger cities where they could possibly more easily contract coronavirus in lake tahoe, im eric rucker. Coming up next on the kron 00 04am morning news theyre back well for summer training at least well talk about with the San Francisco giants are up to after the break. And before we go a look outside a beautiful shot from the embarcadero in San Francisco isnt that lovely the suns out its going to be a Beautiful Day. And well have make home for the 4th the best it can be. And discover whats possible at lowes. Welcome back everyone nearly 4 months after spring training was canceled and opening day postponed due to covid19 the giants got back to business at oracle park players they returned for training in small groups based on physician yesterday and many ball players and staffers they were massing that theyre at their best to maintain distance. There are plenty of other new Health Standards in place, including temperature checks and physicals each day for the players. And despite the precautions and the changes to their routines the players say its just good to be back out on the yard. Just to be back at the park and knowing even though im not saying a lot of them knowing that a lot of guys are back in and working out and getting for a not that are not so great. Theres a lot of hoops to jump through to get going and stay with us is the first days everything is going smoothly and i assume itll go easier the days go on. Well the season is scheduled to start on july 23rd or the 24th. Well Major League Baseball also announcing results from its first round of covid testing. 31 players and 7 Staff Members in mlb tested positive. That includes giants righthander luis montero hes the Second Player on the giants to test positive. All told 19 teams have someone who has tested positive the League Safety protocols say that those who test positive will self isolate immediately and individual names will not be released. Mlb also saying that the cancellation of this years allstar game is a reality the problem of course continued concern about large gatherings fan activities leading up to the allstar game were also canceled. The la dodgers were supposed to host this years game. The Atlanta Braves have already been named to be the host team for next year. So the dodgers will get the event back in 2022. Still ahead on the kron 4 morning news santa cruz is one of the only places where beaches and parking lots are open this weekend well talk about whats available and also off limits coming up. And the 4th of July Fireworks show in San Francisco of course canceled this year, but you have some options you can join kron 4 for a virtual celebration. Winds will be at work later on today so keep that in mind a westerly wind working although locally can be channeled in all sorts of Different Directions but looking pretty pleasant for your evening plans breaking it down before we get there 88 expected by one by 4 about 92, not necessarily what high temperatures will be well take a look at that in your 4 zone forecast coming up in just a bit party sounds great day. Thank you we have some developing news in the north bay this morning marine county has been added to californias covid19 Community Spread watch list. Joining us with more on the details as kron 4 Sanaz Tahernia shes in the newsroom sauce. Good morning. Marty thats right Health Officials say marine county is seeing an elevated increase in transmission. And hospitalizations in addition to being added to the states watch list, its also dealing with a limited Hospital Capacity also developing out of the north bay, the current outbreak at San Quentin State Prison continues to worsen. 2 death row inmates died friday from coronavirus complications now Officials Say 57 yearold Scott Thomas Erskine and 59 yearold man wellness alvarez died at the hospitals where they were treated for skin was sent to san quentin back in 2004 for murdering 2 boys alvarez was serving time. There from 1989 for murder rape and robbery right now there are more than 700 people on californias death row now with the Holiday Weekend in full force. Officials are concerned about people celebrating without masks and social distancing so well be keeping an eye on the numbers are in well provide you with updates throughout the day on kron on friday all right, thanks a lot for that update. Well governor newsome wants people to stay close to home for the 4th of july weekend as the new virus cases continue to pile up here in california governor says hes relying on people to use their common sense and wear masks rather than enforcing a strict Face Covering order. Infection rates and hospitalizations here in california have soared over the past 2 weeks and many businesses were warned last month that failure to enforce the order to wear masks could result in fines and even prosecution. Oakland Police Department is reminding drivers to not drink and drive this Holiday Weekend. They say officers will be out there conducting dui checkpoints this weekend at undisclosed locations in the city of oakland. Police say that during the checkpoint officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. Drivers charged with dui face an average of 13,500 in fines and penalties as well as a suspended license. Well in an effort to limit large gatherings ahead of the Holiday WeekendSan Francisco has closed beach parking lots during the 4th of july Holiday Weekend. So some of those speeches include baker beach, fort point crissy field in ocean beach thats just to name a few. The beaches will still be accessible to bicyclists and pedestrians with those parking lots will be closed. And with those new closures santa cruz is one of the only beaches and parking beach parking lots in the bay area that will be open this weekend kron fours rob fladeboe explains how many are worrying about the likely big crowds that might jam the beaches there throughout the weekend. Of people are having bonfires on the beach which are not pro which are not allowed right now that could be a possibility police will have 0 tolerance for fireworks and drunk drivers. With the person that possibly had a yellow or like lime green vest on which also signify some type of worker. For a possible Delivery Service company all he had to do was stop. It was an accident. Welcome back after months of sheltering in place and travel restrictions Sonoma County wine country has reopened to travelers from the outside of the county. The winerys theyre making good use of their wide open spaces in their backyards and welcoming visitors back our travel enthuses dana redmond joins me this morning and dana these wineries are open despite the latest a pullback this past week. The choice is yours for that so that tasting again mass required for everything but the wine tasting but its a nice way to get outside and stretch your legs and soak up some of that fresh air it really is dana and with the weather weve been having is just a perfect time to go how much this has cost. So this was this was going to about 75 a person and i would plan on 90 minutes to 2 hours for this one to truly kind of feel like you get to relax. Yeah yeah exactly and so so just to make sure that were clear on this 6 people at one time per reservation is that right. The 6 people total so inland unless you have like a family group they they can open it up to more, but the maximum is going to be 6 people plus your guy all right all right, lets move on to the next one. Its going to be fairly easy to socially distance i cant imagine youre going to have an issue but youre going to want it for when youre checking in and checking out and and that type of thing so basically basically are pure youre buying 3 bottles of wine and then you have the run of the place. Absolutely and the line at notre abuse starts at a little over 20 bottle so thats what youre looking at as far as the price range and you know theyre theyre using this open space throughout the summer to kind of be their advantage along with just going in thinking of life theyre doing guidance and said runs theres yoga and theres a drivein movie on the little bit about i think a little bit of everything and kind of get out and explore yes and this is and this is in windsor high heels berg same same thing jordan is another property, not too far away in heels, bird they boast on those 900 acres of open space. Theyre doing all sorts of great things as jordan and i think we have some footage of them okay 4 days a week theyre running guided hikes so there is little a little worse. Its a beautiful frenchinspired and you can do a guided fourmile hike or you can do on a pink eye frenchinspired lunch on the patio but the hikes the hikes again 3 near mass you need to have a reservation but when youre on the hike as long as you can comfortably social distance which is going to be a majority of the time you wont need the you wont need the mass wire hiking, you know one thing i like about these ideas jet danas that youre getting a view of just past the Visitors Center and the patio youre actually getting out into the property. To see just how and what they have their that absolutely that i couldnt agree with you more this is really giving people an opportunity to even see a little bit behind the scenes you if you want to call it that way but jordan for example, i mean along with 10 years they have a beautiful one acre garden, theres there there are animals theyre olive trees, theres all sorts of things so you get to explore you get to learn more and again if youre if youre not ready, youre not ready to go there are hundreds of places doing virtual wine tasting you can take advantage of that. Absolutely absolutely you know its its its really its really nice to see this and to see again how the different wineries are. Adapting what else have you found in the Sonoma Valley that the people should know about. You know i think again reservations are young and masks are important what you have to keep in mind in in in one country and really anywhere in general truthfully is when youre going to visit for a day you have to remember that this is someones community. This is someones backyard. So the wind industry isnt just working to keep you safe. Theyre working to keep their Community Safe so point you know some things are a little different and its not the same that it was last summer but they still want people who enjoy it they still want people to know they are here and particularly sonoma its been a rough past few years between fires and fires that take them were known for taking care our neighborhoods over community and thats all theyre trying to do right now but again its its comfort zone. Yeah, if you want to come no they you should bring your mass with you and theyre going to be the best to be safe if youd rather be at home, there are lots of virtual wine tasting 3 to check out well, thanks for the introduction.
