Well that wind then took control of the both of those small smaller fires, then eventually those smaller you know at this point. A vicious, but theyre still theyre not ruling it out, but they still are determining the cause but typically when they have fires on the side of highways here its typically a cause of Tobacco Products or car issues now we talked to the Public Information officer for the Contra Costa Fire Department this is the latest on what he asks the 24 so crews that are out there working on the fire along with cal fire air assets have managed to stop forward progress thats great news is that moving forward or more. Firefighters contending with the on again off again hot spots like this one which will burn right up to a canny on a road here everything on the other side of the road has already burned. It is mostly ranch land 70 people were evacuated from the few homes here much of the battle is being conducted from the air tankers and helicopters. Firefighters expect to be here for several days tackling hot spots or small islands of unburned grass sparked up by the wind. Not a densely populated community out here in south county. Getting in front that fire between the residences and savings lot of property. Near gilroy rob fladeboe kron 4 news. And to our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow tracking the conditions for us right now we talk with calfire live during kron 4 news at 5. The representative telling us that with that fire thats burning in gilroy the winds going in such a direction that the fire is burning away from the city of gilroy which is great news. Thats exactly what they want they dont want any homes or people to be threatened by this fire, but theyre concerned that the winds could change direction and that could change their plans quickly. Yes, certainly does and the winds will do that will change directions throughout the night mainly a predominant westerly wind though right now they can have some issues with some smoke. In the gilroy area overnight tonight but right now up toward rodale you can see the fire burning in and around there the winds gusting almost 20 Miles Per Hour some points but not only there weve got more fires to contend with and this one is in and around some oil tank so certainly something to watch out for theres are fighting that one winds the delta breeze blowing right through you can see the benicia right now and the right along the 16 in the 70s but weve got a fire burning there certainly get those winds blustery at this time going to cause some problems in that area now not only there but also in toward fremont were seeing another fire this one mainly toward the bay right now on a par but a lot of that smoke is moving westerly so you get into fremont you get in a union city get into hayward some of that smoke could be an issue in and around that area and of course were talking about the crews fire now the winds coming out of the west pushing a lot of the smoke and the fire away from gilroy but overnight tonight, those will start to become slack and that means decrease overnight and all of a sudden some of that smoke is going to see and kind of fill back into parts of the gilroy area made in morgan hill may even southern san jose another fire to be concerned with this one up and marine that was burning near white cold stare, but the winds have really been within their look at that dylan beach to 31 Miles Per Hour doesnt look like these winds are going to be as strong by tomorrow afternoon the fire conditions still going to be running high will be watching and thank you lawrence and fire crews in the south bay continue to gain control of the park fire thats burning in morgan hill. This fire started over the weekend and has burned more than 340 acres. Evacuations were in place at one point but crews were able to stop forward progress and all the evacuation orders have since been lifted. We will continue to follow all of these fires throughout tonights broadcast and always bring the latest information as soon as we get it, were continuing to update our website kron 4 dot com and you can find the latest information there. Other news were following tonight governor Gavin Newsome revealing new information about the states response to covid19 over the Holiday Weekend in his daily update the governor announced there are 23 counties, currently on his covid19 watch list you can see the listed here on your screen. It includes 3 bay area counties. Contra costa. Marin and solano Santa Clara County which was originally on the list has now been removed and contra costa which was removed from the list on friday was added back today because of the uptick in cases there counties that are on this watch list are expected to close most indoor businesses, including restaurants to try and keep the virus from spreading any more today the governor also explained how the state will continue to enforce its covid19 guidelines in the days ahead. Our Capitol Bureau reporter Ashley Zavala has those details. Governor Gavin Newsome pleased that many californians cautiously celebrated the 4th of july i just want to compliment. The local efforts the county efforts. The educational and the social persuasion that very i think well represented demonstrated over the 4th of july Holiday Weekend. Celebrations were underway. The state added a handful of counties to his Community Spread watch list with now 23 listed most of the counties have shut down bars indoor operations at restaurants and Family Entertainment centers as of monday. The state was waiting for 6 of the counties to take actions. 6 just joined weeks peck theyll move. In the next few days, california also boosted its enforcement of guidelines in the states face mask mandate it businesses cal osha contacted 440,000 of them. The majority of which made corrections immediately while the alcohol Beverage Control visited 6,000 restaurants and bars citing 52 of them to overwhelming majority of people. Were doing the right thing and i just i want to applaud that said monday this type of enforcement will continue as the states covid19 Positivity Rate reaches 7 and more californians than ever are getting tested for covid19 in sacramento, Ashley Zavala kron 4 news. California once again set a new record for the most coronavirus cases in a single day this is according to Johns Hopkins university we saw 11,786 infections that were reported yesterday across the state we now have more than 264,000 infections and more than 6300 deaths here in the bay area were seeing more than 27,000 cases and 599 people have died. Santa clara county and the state of california are butting heads over reopening. This all started over the weekend with restaurants being told they could not offer Outdoor Dining. And now it has put a stop on any further reopening plans. Kron fours dan kerman live now for us in palo alto with more on this story good evening dam. Good evening just in were in california avenue where for weeks now here and other parts of Santa Clara County you could partake. And Outdoor Dining. Now Santa Clara County is hearing that while the state issued guidelines for really didnt give Santa Clara County the approval to do it and now they want Santa Clara County to step forward and get that approval before theres any more Outdoor Dining. It was friday when alcohol Beverage Control officers visited morgan hills lidera grill telling them Outdoor Dining was not approved by the state because the county of santa clara had not submitted a request for a variance we believe that. Outdoor gaining is allowed at a News Conference monday. The countys Public Information officer said. As far as the county is concerned no request is necessary the way people havent heard believes the order says that. Something is in the day when it is expressly prohibited that when the state is silent that is left to the jurisdiction to decide how to proceed with their grill like many others in the county is continuing to serve food outdoors and the county is awaiting clarification from the state. In the meantime the county requests to further expand reopening to include hair and Nail Services as well as gyms and small gatherings has been rejected by the state because hospitalizations jumped more than 5 in a single week, so we had numbers in the in the 30s. And and you know the fact that they may have done to somewhere in the 80s, no percentage wise that certainly would go beyond the 5 increase but in terms of numbers. You know, its still a as doctor coady said we went from very low. To love county Officials Say Santa Clara County still has one of the lowest infection rates for 100,000 residents in the bay area and the state which is why theyre hoping eventually to get the ok to expand reopening. We are cautiously optimistic that we can resolve that issue but ultimately the ball is on the state court. And its very possible that that variance that Santa Clara County has been seeking might end up coming through. Thats because while hospitalizations had jumped a couple of weeks ago they had a very slight increase in the last week which means that its very possible that all of this could be open or at least get the state seal of approval, well just have to stay tuned live in palo alto dan kerman kron 4 news. Yeah just more of a general sea breeze i think by the afternoon maybe 10 maybe some 20 mile an hour winds near the coastline, but definitely not as gusty as what we had for today, but still enough of that fog along the coastline to keep the cooler temperatures out toward the beaches right now youre looking at 50s there inside the bay 74 still very nice in san jose 73 in fremont 65 degrees in hayward 68 san anselmo 73.
