Well santa cruz is now one of californias call on californias covid19 watch list. Just last week the county was flagged because of an increase in cases now changes could be coming soon county Communications Manager jason hoppen says that despite being a tourist area. Santa cruz county has been doing well in recent months, keeping the numbers as low as possible. If nothing changes then on we will go into further measures to reduce the spread of covid in the community and that comes in the form of orders from the state to close certain sectors so that will include gyms personal services Worship Services and things like that same thing about 90 of the rest of the state has already gone into so it will probably be around wednesday or thursday before those measures go into place. Well meanwhile the county will continue to update their city website. Well the city of San Francisco is expanding its slow Streets Program to allow more businesses to open for outdoor dining. They may be providing cover for agitators who are more intent on stoking civil unrest, then advancing racial justice. Now the mayors statement refers to the president s comments last week that he would be sending in federal agents to cities, including oakland, new york and chicago to help control protesters. One oakland resident is echoing the mayors message stephen lowe and fall was out surveying the damage at the courthouse sunday morning. And he told us that hes worried about the longterm effects of violent protests. Well my thought. Coming up next on the kron 4 morning news after being shut down twice because of the pandemic lawmakers at the State Capitol or back to work today with hundreds of proposals they have to sort through. And after the break there are more than 4. 2 million known cases of covid19 the u. S. According to Johns Hopkins university. And some Officials Say stay at home orders might be necessary again and some areas will have more on this coming up after the break. How about a trip outside off to the san mateo bridge. We go where traffic remains busy and heavy from the east bay to the peninsula, but no major hot spots so monday everybody good morning welcome back to the kron 00 04am morning news, lets go ahead get a check of the fed forecast with dave spahr dave got the usual fog at golden gate bridge. Yeah, good morning morning, good morning, everybody and it seems become for ing the 2 towers 2 pretty nicely the very bottom is showing sfo no delays but still we have these fog clouds. Covering up the hills to the distance there Temperature Movement not really too much yet even inland 64 for antioch and we are sorry yeah, can 62 for san jose, elsewhere were in the 50s you can see so we havent moved yet. The players are much the same and what were toying is waiting for this front to drop south. But not a major deal, but its going to correct our temperatures bring him down in the upper 80s that will be wednesday thursday, but this thing is taking its sweet time youre taking the scenic route i take it. So heres what happens on the home front here for today at least we have the fog clears afternoon showers fire up all comes back again for tonight very typical but we dont have the flareup of showers going on the sierra tomorrow. Thats as the front gets a little closer in the weather pattern starts to change will still probably see some lower 90s going on tomorrow but then the 80s start to kick in for the middle of the week another factor which kind of nice about this here the winds get kind of breezy in spots but it helps keep temperatures a little suppressed from what they could be if we didnt have that thats were seeing in the Central Valley it could be quite warm today, triple digits expected there today. So heres what we got going on morning fog and clouds sunny and warm in the afternoon, a midweek with that front getting here that we talked about well drop off in the upper 80s a little bit and then by this weekend we snapped back to more of that flavor of summer as end of july, so its a somewhat typical well get to this early august in fact, 66 for San Francisco, 73 oakland. 83 san jose across the wider real estate we do have some lower 90s hanging on today 93 any off at 91 going on for concord 82 for napa by comparison with 85 santa rosa. Blake wheeler chilly 6783 for san jose, of course a closer inspection of that the 4 zone forecast well be checking into as well as that extended and douglas out in a white or rather whats going on with area traffic. Traffic remains a trouble free on our bridges in fact, its looking a little bit better on 18 to San Francisco. The last time we checked it was backed up to west grand now its often on mitt lot maybe sometimes stretching on to the 80 overcrossing but this is considered an improvement so it doesnt look like its going to last much longer overall under 15 minutes into San Francisco over to 92 busy but not bad, its been crowded since the 4 oclock hour. But still nothing major going on on the nimitz through hayward or san leandro and its a quick trip across the span over to the peninsula marty. Thank you. Well, the number of known coronavirus cases here in the u. S. Doubles about every month. Thats according to Johns Hopkins university. According to Johns Hopkins university. And the centers for Disease Control and prevention published a forecast. That predicts up to 160,000 us deaths by mid august, youre going to keep seeing this research. One place after another after another if we dont have a concerted National Approach to this as work on a vaccine continues republicans in the senate are working with the white house on a new economic stimulus proposal were talking about Employment Benefits and so forth. And all the other issues paycheck protection plan, tax credits to rehire people and money for schools, im John Lawrence reporting. And happening today, lawmakers in the State Capitol are finally back at work in the building, the capitol had been shut down twice because of the pandemic and now they have a lot of catching up to do they have 5 weeks to sort through pass or reject hundreds of people proposals that includes of those that are aiming to address Police Brutality unemployment and housing. That conversations in our house both as individual numbers have come to me caucus obviously we dont we have huge to address this is a series of other those me we have significant things to do as a legislature before in areas like education Climate Change the environment. So well deal with that overcast to start things off most bay Area Temperatures and the 50s 64 antioch 62 going on for san jose after we had some daytime heating, lets get those winds cooking here a little bit. Nice little blanket here to keep us a little bit cooler than our friends off to the Central Valley will numbers will be pushing in the triple digits throughout the front donor backyard dropping south also reducing numbers a little bit more too 76 by 11 by 2 oclock were talking 88 some locations will be popping into the lower 90s well look at your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit robin. Sounds good. Thank you dave now to a big story that were following for you this morning more airlines are strengthening their mass requirement this week, lets check in with kron fours will tran who is live at sfo with an update will. 2 airlines are doing it First United Airlines did it on friday and now Southwest Airlines they are having a mask policy a lot of people are saying why did they not do this before so a lot of people are happy robin that now a lot of airlines are jumping on board at least the Major Airlines Southwest Airlines. Theyre taking it one step further than say some of the other airlines. They dont care. If you have a suppose it medical condition that you make an excuse why you cant wear a mask, they say they will they will miss you, but please come back after the pandemic because they want to make sure that their employees and their passengers are safe, lets face it, the airlines are taking a beating ever since the pandemic started so theyre doing all that they can to woo back the flying public American Airlines. They will do it 2 days from now not exactly sure if they are as strict as Southwest Airlines. But theyre telling people put on a mask as soon as you get to the airport. Obviously when you get to the ticket counter. And when you hop on the plane of course you can take off your mask when youre eating and drinking but they will monitor the situation meaning you cant take advantage of that and then youre done eating and you sit there for the next 30 to maybe an hour or 2. Without your mask so once youre done they will come back to remind you please put back on your mask. And a lot of people they say this is a good idea because lets face it. They are scared to fly. I think that its fantastic idea because its necessary for people to travel, its also necessary for people to take the right precautions during these crazy times. There are people who think it doesnt work its a hoax and this up ali make them even. More frustrated. Absolutely i think that people you know can do themselves that this justice does not being safe and on top of that theyre putting a lot of people in harms way. Once again no mask, no fly no exceptions when it comes to Southwest Airlines. But the good news as far as Southwest Airlines if youre frustrated by this policy, Southwest Airlines they say for now theyre not putting anybody in the center seat which 2 airlines already are doing United Airlines and American Airlines so even though theyre making people whether masks they are putting people and the center seat United Airlines they actually started with their own employees making the flight attendants wear the mask and now its across the board and yes, even at baggage claim. Robin marty. Well hopefully people get the message they can say we didnt give them a headsup thank you will marty.
